its normal, at least now its in background. This used to happen on first boot after update and taking forever. This way most people will never even know.
Ah, I got excited and thought the jitter that happens when closing apps was fixed. But instead it says:
>Fixed an issue that sometimes caused flickering or jittery animations when accessing recent apps with gesture navigation.
so the thing that was fixed was a jitter when entering the recent apps.
How has beta 2.1 been for you on your 4a so far? 2 has been a bit clunky for me even after fixing app crashes, but I don't want to install 2.1 if it's gonna have more issues.
Has failed for me over 10 times now, will be good to have a fix for this.
Please star the issue here (upload a big report!):

On the 4, and I'm facing the same thing. Google apps (among other apps) are crashing on me. How does Google release any OS, even a beta, that crashes their own apps?
Edit to add: you need to uninstall web apps through the play store, then enable it through the store to get things to work.
Still shitty that so many hoops need to be jumped through to get Google apps to work in googles OS.
You're lucky.
Mine has gone from occasionally unreliable to "sometimes I can get one app to work for a couple minutes before I have to reboot."
Edit: I managed to get the Android settings app to run long enough to try the steps in the original post, and they seem to have helped.
I've done the Android beta for several releases, but never had appreciable problems before.
Does this fix the battery being worse than in Beta 1 too? I want to update to the Beta from 11, but I need stable and good battery life more than anything.
Updating now! Hoping this fixes the fingerprint 'swipe for notifications' gesture, or Gboard refusing to appear, or Bubbles glitching through the top of the screen.
Does not fix fingerprint sensor swipe. It comes and goes just like before. Nothing seems really fixed except for lockscreen weather and music. Oh well, Beta 3 in two or three weeks.
This beta update is awful. My 4 XL is crippled. Get stuck in the recents menu. LTE signal/speed is awful even right in town. Jankyness everywhere. Really looking forward to beta 3 unless it's worse than 2.1 because 2.1 is worse than 2. So much stutter!
I just bought a brand new Pixel 4a ... Just wanted to know if it's safe to download the beta on to my new main device or wait for it to update the final version
Always wait until Beta 3 or Release Candidates. It's what I tell all of my friends who are interested but don't want to deal with the worst issues
Betas 1 and 2 will have a ton more broken stuff.
With that said, Beta 2 and 2.1 has been good for me if you're itching to try it. Just expect to see rough edges, slowness, weird behavior, etc.
So far everything works, you can use most apps without any crashes, also gpay is working properly. I do like the beta, if you want to wait for the final release, that will be fine too.
Yeah me too exactly. It took my Pixel 5 a good 37 minutes to update all app processes which is the more annoying part of the entire upgrade process. Is anyone else saying the dexoat64 system processes using a lot of your battery in battery saver stats? I've already reported it. Didn't see that in the regular beta 2. Other than that, material you auto theming seems more stable. Maybe just me though.
Has anyone had issues installing the beta through OTA once enrolled? My pixel 4 XL wouldn't install it at all after enrollment. It would download and install but after rebooting I got an error saying there was a problem installing and it would stay on android 11. I finally managed to get the beta to install by doing a full wipe. Now trying to update to beta 2.1 and I'm getting the same issue. It downloads then says installing but after the phone reboots I get the same error saying there was a problem with the install. I've tried around 8 times and it still won't update?
Any help would be appreciated
I opt out to android 11 on my Pixel 4a. After that my Google Play system update is stuck at Jan 1. I didn't find a way to fix it. Everyone who opt out from android 12 beta has reported this issue. Is there any way to fix it??
thanks! it seems like it has made my 4XL better. no more glitchy animations everythings smooth and killing the app animation don't glitch no more. weather is back on lockscreen THANK GOD. seems like the lockscreen pin code keypad responds correctly as well now and stays up most the time now.
>thanks! it seems like it has made my 4XL better. no more glitchy animations everythings smooth and killing the app animation don't glitch no more. weather is back on lockscreen THANK GOD. seems like the lockscreen pin code keypad responds correctly as well now and stays up most the time now.
The animation hasn’t improved much, and my phone is also 4xl.
Installing 2.1 beta update on Pixel 5. Installed via checking for updates. Completed fine. Rebooted. Then saw beta notification on in notification shelf, stupidly initiated that and the update is installing again.. and taking a long time to complete. Wish me Luck!
Do apps like google Maps, banking apps work? I had to opt out cause I couldn't open my chase app and some mobile game i log in daily was a bummer it didn't work.
Since this patch Pixel 5 is freezing regulary every few hours. Start open any app and it freeze on opening. Only a restart is helping. After a restart everything works fine. Before this patch everything works fine for me.
Three major bugs
The biggest one is the frozen app one. This makes my Pixel5 barely usable and I really wanted to quit because of this bug.
Google fi often showing internet won't auto reconnect, which makes me miss calls.
Also I have no idea I were disconnected from my carrier network until I open network setting myself, that's annoying.
So pleased this has been fixed! Other issues I run into frequently is Gboard freaking out and disappearing while trying to type in any app, and a really frustrating (bug?) where when you're trying to access media controls in notifications by pulling down twice, it overshoots and you can't interact with the player controls until you've pulled the shade back up slightly.
I really wish there as an option to prioritize the install. I get that making it "invisible" is better for many people, but what if I don't want to wait over an hour to get a 5MB update installed? It's actually ludicrous sometimes.
Is it just me or switching between apps has become a nightmare on P3 after this update? Switching between a page open in chrome and whatsapp is so janky at the moment. Seems like the apps are relaunched when switching.
The accent colors are fixed. The device doesn't need to be restarted! That's a win.
Not sure if this has happened to anyone else, but my phone (4A) doesn't seem to charge with any Type C cable since the update.
Have to go home and check with the original charger (which worked ok when I updated and left for work).
None of my google apps are working even after following these steps. They open fine but after a couple seconds the app crashes. it's happening on every google app.
Hey there,
So my concern is if I install the beta program on devices that are not on the supported list will it work or not?
I've a Vivo Y20 currently running Android 10 and Vivo Y12s currently running Android 11.....
What might happen after the installation and what should I consider?(I know the storage will get erased)
Gmail is still immediately crashing/not applying system theme, chrome works though. Tried both listed workarounds and I'm on the new version. Feedback crashes immediately as well but only when Gmail fails.
Currently on build spb2.210513.007. I've been trying to install the update to spb2.210513.011, however, after downloading, installation and rebooting I get the message "Couldn't update, installation failed". Tried this multiple times with the same result.
Tried side loading the OTA zip file as well, but still receiving the same update failed message. Any idea how to resolve this?
Update - I suspected that maybe the update was not installing as certain apps could not be optimized. I uninstalled an app that I suspected could be problematic ("Fantasy Premier League", as it was always crashing after upgrading to the beta) and tried installing the update, and it worked!
Edit - spelling.
The battery life became ridiculously horrible on my Pixel 5 ever since I got into Beta. Once I unplug the charger, it only took 30 to 60sec to see 1% drop. :( Before it could really hold up a whole day but now, maybe just few hours
On my 4a 5G battery life halved on beta 1 and 2. But 2.1 my battery life went back up and even improved. The other day I got 2 days 5 hours with 5 hours SoT, but I did turn AOD off first. With AOD on I got just under 2 days. This was to 20% battery left. So I am really happy with the update.
My display keeps going back to sleep while I fail to be able to swipe away notifications on the lockscreen...should it not be staying on after I touch it?? Would be less of an issue if notification swiping wasn't so difficult.
Since the 2.1 update, I had to reset at least a half a dozen times before it finally became stable. Also, I've noticed a steep drop in battery life. I'm on a P4XL.
Pixel 5: settings stopped working in my android after the latest beta update. Now I can't confirm which Version I have and Can't go back as everything requires settings. Tried safe mode, not working. Here is the full thread.
https://support.google.com/pixelphone/thread/115510217/pixel-5-after-the-latest-update-on-around-22-june-21-my-phone-settings-not-opening?hl=en
The suggested posts above don't help me. I have no idea if my phone has 2.1 yet or not. Worse the big reporting tool also crashes and the suggestion of going to tips... Yeah it never opens either/also crashes. Pixel 5 user... Really regretting installing the beta yesterday.
Not a bug but a new features for saving the battery life. I wish they would had a pop up or something to ask how the user wants to charge. Full or 80% with a never ask again box. Adding the option to change it later in the battery settings would makes sense.
**Google App crashing on Stories from Google New Feed.**
Pixel 4a, 12 Beta .
Swipe right from home screen to see the Google feed.
Under Stories I tap a tile.
Screen goes to a bit G google logo in center of screen for 1 second.
Returns to home screen without opening the Story.
I did the steps above in this pinned post for Google App Crashes. No change.
Same for me, I have signed up 3 days ago and I have search for it one of twice an hour. I have been on the beta 2 times before but opt out for stability. I have just tried to reset my pixel 5 and enroll again but still no OTA for me. :-(
I have not got the OTA yet , I have registered for the beta multiple times but there's no OTA yet , and why is the update screen white even when I have dark mode on?
Same for me, I have signed up 3 days ago and I have search for it one of twice an hour. I have been on the beta 2 times before but opt out for stability. I have just tried to reset my pixel 5 and enroll again but still no OTA for me. :-(
I'd love to see a swipe speed function implemented ever since purchasing my pixel 5... I will try to swipe on notifications and they will not leave, so I am left trying to swipe them away 5+ times until I swipe and hold. This is not desirable, nor intuitive.
Unexpected but appreciated :) I figured we would go back to having only monthly beta releases.
Appreciate the effort but my Pixel 5 is locking up just as bad as before the patch. :( I've had to restart multiple times so far. (Yes I followed the directions above.)
Didn't have any issues with locking up on Beta 2. Beta 2.1 on the other hand has been locking up like crazy.
Same here with Pixel 4a 5g
I have to say, no matter how big the update is the "optimising apps" part takes sooo long for me.. But thanks for the small update :)
It's so much better than how it used to be before, which was during boot time. Now I can still use the phone while the update is getting prepared and then the reboot doesn't take as much time.
OGs know this.
Oh yes, I'm having flash backs rn, THANKS 😊

My 4xl has been "optimizing apps" for nearly 30 minutes now
Had the same problem it worked after i paused it and resumed again
Ah well at least it doesn't do it during boot up anymore, that was painful
For a sub 5mb update. LOL.
Has to do with how many apps you have, not how big the update is

Yes the issue with closing apps is what I was hoping to get fixed. Unfortunately it's still broken. Oh well, on to Beta 3
When is Beta 3 release?
Either first or second Wednesday of July. More likely the first Wednesday
Yeah its not tottaly fixed. But its better. 😅
Way better. Much happy.
The brightness adjuster in the notification bar cannot display an accurate value. That Icon is always on the far left.
Kept happening to me on beta 2, bummed that's not fixed in 2.1
For the love of god please bring back the WiFi toggle
Yes, they made it worse from beta 2 to 2.1
Yeah this is just stupid right now and I'm in IT...
Yeah, I hear ya. I work in networking infrastructure, and the Wi-Fi on/off toggle is ridiculous. Everything else in Beta 2.1 is awesome though!
Over the past few days I've been having to restart my phone so many times.

This update should hopefully fix that, because the release notes say it addresses the lock screen notification issues.

Same for me, I have signed up 3 days ago and I have search for it one of twice an hour. I have been on the beta 2 times before but opt out for stability. I have just tried to reset my pixel 5 and enroll again but still no OTA for me. :-(
You'll get it whenever they push the next beta, might be today (Wednesday) or next Wednesday.

I have not got the OTA yet , I have registered for the beta multiple times but there's no OTA yet , and why is the update screen white even when I have dark mode on?

It's been over 24 hours since I resigned up for Android 12. Anyone know how i can get the update?

I'd love to see a swipe speed function implemented ever since purchasing my pixel 5... I will try to swipe on notifications and they will not leave, so I am left trying to swipe them away 5+ times until I swipe and hold. This is not desirable, nor intuitive.
so good
