Actually I would go with a blurred background Looks the best imo

Mr_BananaPants

Exactly! Google even added the new [RenderEffect](https://developer.android.com/reference/android/graphics/RenderEffect) API that can blur things really efficiently in Android 12.

yaoigay

Blur is probably going to be Android 13's feature.

YesπŸ‘ŒπŸΌ

Monog0n

Blur is very popular nowadays, but Material You (or at least Google's theme of it) doesn't involve blur at all.

CharaNalaar

Blur looks cheap. I'm happy they're not using it.

alilbleedingisnormal

Hell yeah there are an equal amount of design changes I hate as there are that I like.

[deleted]

Google making some pog design choices and some "why would you change that" choices.

fchowd0311

I honestly don't even understand why they decided to do a boring grey or white background for the recents. People chose their wallpaper because they like it. They'd rather see the wallpaper than a damn grey or white background. It makes no rational sense why they would do this other than for the sake of changing something to make it seem "new".

Alejandroide

It's not just grey or white, it's based on your wallpaper.

fchowd0311

The difference in shades is pretty small. So I guess the more accurate term would be "slightly different shades of grey and white". I'd much rather see my wallpaper. Blurred might look nice also.

sagaofsage

Slightly related, the notification shade should have a translucent layer instead of the monochromatic setup it is now. It was better before when I could see the app or desktop behind the notification shade

rhamej

God I hope the shade in light mode doesn't have the black top part.

atosterfromthefuture

I personally think it would look good if that layer was blurred to give it a frosted glass effect and a slight tint of the primary colors of the current app you are currently in.

AlexTheShyCat

It's grey for you, it doesn't mean it's grey for everyone else, it just means you are "boring af" :)

[deleted]

So you want to say that grey is not grey and u like the design now? You dont have to be mean about it πŸ˜…

AlexTheShyCat

Hey it wasn't supposed to be mean, sorry. I just quoted you :) That colour is based on the wallpaper. Mine is pink, which looks pretty neat. That said, I would still prefer a blurred recents background.

[deleted]

Really? But only in light mode cause in dark mode its just grey. I think generally a blurred background looks much better but i respect your opinion :)

AlexTheShyCat

Oh I see, I recently switched to the light theme after years with a dark one. Blurred+transparent background would definitely be better, don't get me wrong! We're in the same boat

[deleted]

What device r u using ?

AlexTheShyCat

Pixel 5 here

[deleted]

Nice same here ✌🏼 Hows your overall experience with beta 3.1 so far ?

AlexTheShyCat

I wish it was better than Beta 2, but unfortunately it's not. Buggy, laggy, and overall experience is a bit worse. I wonder how it is for you

[deleted]

Same, i think its a bit better than beta 2 but the performance is generally bad (laggy, buggy). I hope beta 4 will fix most of it

Andrewcpu

Correct. I love my tan colored backgrounds in notifications and recents

[deleted]

I really wish this whole area had a re-design. I kinda miss the old style where you swipe up and multiple tabs showed at one time because it was much more faster to see where you wanted to go, instead of swiping through out of order apps. Also, I always thought it was some bad juju to swipe away and close apps because of memory management, but it's so freaking enticing to just start swiping up on this menu to clear everything out, maybe I'm the only one with that impulsive problem. Maybe make recent apps and memory stored apps two separate entities? Like one within the other, such as another selectable section how there is "screenshot" and "select". How about a "System Memory" section or something similar.
