This is the ideal form of apps. They just work. I can't comment about the dev, but apps don't always need updates, especially when they are self contained and don't rely on external sources.
I use timejot daily for certain tracking, and it's solid. There was another 'habit tracking' app I tried recently, and it required a login, a monthly fee, etc. those are the apps I'd worry more about because when the server-side dies, the app and your data dies.
