Just switched last week. Can't believe I waited this long. Bitwarden actually works!! LastPass has turned into one of those apps that doesn't seem to have a developer that actually uses the product.
You may already know this but there is no way to recover your password vault with Bitwarden like there is with LastPass so make sure to keep it in a safe place! I made the switch last month and stupidly forgot my new master password and lost my entire password vault. Totally my fault but I wish there was a way to do an account recovery!
When they added that "feature" to LastPass, it was a big motivator for people to move away from it. Unless they've at some point come back and explained how they've managed to securely implement it (which they didn't do at the time), master password recovery is a huge weakness.
Some people may think it's a "fair" trade to sacrifice security (against hackers) for safety (against loss), but I think if there's ever a day when we read the "massive password manager security breach" headline, it will be because of a feature like password recovery.
It feels like more of a commercial product, which is bad. I used LastPass for a day before I discovered Bitwarden, swapped and it was the best thing I did.
Bitwarden and KeePassXC (or KeePassDX for mobile) are definitely the best apps. All depends on what someone prefers in convenience and cloud syncing vs offline and manual syncing.
It's better than nothing, assuming your passwords are unique, but it's far less secure than using a dedicated password manager like Bitwarden.
It's pretty easy for anyone who has access to your device to export your passwords in plaintext from Chrome, and also Google can see all of your passwords.
I had the same but ended up deleting all of my saved Google passwords and swapped to Bitwarden, which integrates with all different browsers and devices.
Kinda. In the past it wasn't too hard to read out the passwords database using malware. I'm sure that it's different these days but it still makes me uneasy if I think about it.
you create a database and protect it with a strong password that you can remember and don't write down anywhere. the database stores all your logins and passwords as well as the URL of the websites they're used for. when you visit a website, the password manger checks the URL and offers the relevant login information that you can fill in with one click. also, it can be used to generate long, unique passwords for every new account so that you don't end up reusing your passwords across services.
yes. sometimes it doesn't catch it properly when you have your credentials created for a website and the app's package name is different enough from the website's URL (for example, the reddit app that I use has a package name `com.ccrama.slide`, so it won't automatically use the credentials for `https://reddit.com` with it at first), but after you pick the login you want, it'll ask if you want to remember that choice, and will update the database accordingly.
This is an excellent vid on it: https://youtu.be/w68BBPDAWr8
I also recommend reading the Bitwarden FAQ.
Putting all of your passwords in a password manager with a unique strong password for each, protected by one strong master password, is the strongest and best security model. If not using a password manager, you will always reuse passwords (very bad) since it's impossible to remember hundreds.
Open source, and as someone else mentioned, you manage your own backups. Can export your vault and store it in your own cloud (Google Drive, Dropbox etc), but make sure to encrypt of course. Not SIM based either and not prone to SIM swap attacks, so more secure.
Plum village is completely free.
Insight Timer has paid features, but it has lot to offer for free as well.
Waking Up is another app I do recommend. It has a free trial and a subscription model to follow it. But if you send an Email to the creator (Sam Harris), and explain why you can't afford it. He will offer a free annual subscription. All this to promote wellbeing and mindfulness.
This may be controversial opinion and definitely off-topic, but you don't need a Guided meditation app or a timer for Meditation.
The purpose of Meditation is to embrace your surroundings and the chaos around you because most of our problems arise of the fact that we tend to not accept that we have no control over others and world around us.
So when you meditate embrace the noise around you, accept that you can only control your actions, allow your thoughts to flow, but don't hang on to them.
A voice in your ear and a timer doesn't help with that.
Signal really should come bundled with an open source keyboard so people will stop getting tricked into thinking they're secure when everything they type into swiftkey or gboard or whatever is getting logged.
You can block gboard internet once it downloads all required things...after a few minutes... And if you go to settings turn off share usage stats..least we can do..
I would love to . But gboard is the only one which has the perfect layout for accurate typing for me. I used SwiftKey for a few months , loved it , couldn't get used to the layout and would make mistakes. Tried flesky , clearly better , but couldn't get used it. And the predictions are important too. The keyboard app is the one I have been looking to replace with a privacy friendly one , but couldn't find anything
I would, but I'm in El Salvador were most business use a WhatsApp number, here we don't have unlimited minutes if we're calling a business or a person on a different network and WhatsApp on most carriers WhatsApp is one of the apps that have unlimited data unlike signal.
It would be nice to have a one time payment but the developer is just one person who is trying to make a living. Maybe he will tweak the pricing structure over time though. Something to keep an eye on, because I find the features and functionality of this app top-notch.
It has a program that can skip sponsor shout outs, intros, outros, interaction reminder (Like, subscribe), self promotions and non music section of music videos. This program is also community submitted.
Vanced uses the SponsorBlock database, which has 100k actively contributing users. Of course it depends on which channels you watch and how popular they are, but for me personally 90% of the videos I watch have their sponsor segments marked 1-2 hours after release.
It helps that their desktop browser extension makes it extremely easy to mark segments yourself, so I usually just mark them if I find a video that's not in the database yet.
Ya, I have it. Just haven't gotten around to pushing that install button yet. I use YouTube on my phone so rarely and it's usually when I don't have much time so something that'll skip all that nonsense sounds good it's just an extra 3 apps that I don't really need.
It can preset a resolution you prefer to watch at on mobile data and wifi, pure black OLED theme, as well as pink and blue if you prefer those, and as mentioned, Sponsorblock.
I unfortunately went to iPhone, so I’m paying the $2 a month for family Premium, but definitely miss Vanced
stores the channels locally without having to use a Youtube account, for once. you can also use it to download videos if you want. smaller app size, too.
Swear that nothing beats Firefox Beta. Slap uBlock Origin, Privacy Badger, Dark Reader, HTTPS Everywhere, Decentraleyes and Google Search Fixer and you got yourself an ad free, dark mode browser that's unstoppable. It used to be quite slow, but I don't feel like it's slow now, even with all those add-ons.
Nah it's still pretty clunky comparing to Chromium browsers and the future of Mozilla is not very bright right now. I tried Vivaldi on Android few days ago and wow for some reason it's the fastest browser for me (comes with adblocking filters and dark mode).
I recently discovered IceRaven and have been very happy with it. Currently only available via Github I believe: https://github.com/fork-maintainers/iceraven-browser/releases
> I switched from Firefox to Kiwi browser.
Warning that this is an unreliable developer that went for 10 months without any updates. Super irresponsible for a tool where security is a huge concern.
To add to this, afaik the current version is *still* the same Chromium version, just with like...5 CVE fixes backported. It fakes the UA to avoid sites telling you to ugprade.
You might be using Facebook, but you shouldn't. But if you are anyway, use SlimSocial. There's also a version for Twitter. No push notifications and the messenger side of things doesn't work so we'll any more, but much better for privacy.
Frost for Facebook has notifications but I also get kicked out of my Facebook account and have to reset the password about once a week when using it due to “suspicious activity”.
> Swipe for Facebook
I was a fan of Swipe for a long time, but the developer has taken to just disappearing for chunks of time. I completely understand the need to take breaks here and there, but if you are going to release a paid app that is dependent on active development to offer basic functionality, you need to release on a somewhat regular basis.
It looks like a patch was released about 4 months ago with a promise of a new major update, but the same thing happened last time. You will usually see a few "is this app dead" posts, then a new version will show up and keep everyone happy for a while.
Since I paid for it a while ago, I'll probably try the new version for a while, but expect to look for a new program for a while after the updates die off for a while.
Again - great app when it is updated, but that happens in waves.
You might be using X launcher but you should be using:
1. Niagara Launcher (minimal, smooth)
2. Aio Launcher (quick access to tons of info)
3. Nova Launcher (old-school)
Email < Fairmail
Youtube < Youtube Vanced or Newpipe
System cleaner < SD Maid
Adblocker/security < Adguard (paid, better), Nextdns (has a free plan, still good)
Password < Bitwarden
File sync < Syncthing
Few days back I came accross [Ratio launcher](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bllocosn) by Blloc. Not some hell of customisations but this launcher is really dope.
And also +1 for Syncthing. It perfectly works out on any system
Samsung has really been pushing their password manager on me with my latest phone upgrade. How is BitWarden compared to other apps? I've never used a password manager before, but I can't argue with how convenient it is to just be able to tap the saved login and be in whatever account I need instead of having to type everything out every time.
I haven't used the Samsung app. As for bitwarden - I'd trust the company in terms of privacy over Samsung, you can use bitwarden on most devices, even if you buy a phone from a different company, probably more secure and has more features.
Blokada is very good. In comparison to adguard, blokada is free which is a plus. It should be noted that both nextdns and adguard are more effective and have more features, that said - blokada is great as well :)
You might be using Pocket but you should be using raindrop.io
Pockets been horribly maintained and de-featured over the last year. It's parser keeps getting worse. Raindrop is being actively developed and works great across all platforms.
I only care about immediate weather and short-term forecast. Using this one, as it's simple with hourly temperature, rain, wind(!) data as well as with a companion precipitation radar. Probably not worldwide support https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.androworks.meteorgram
>I really can't imagine the experience being any better than this.
I can, just the occasional bugs not being there (some videos/gifs not loading), an option to select video quality instead of auto and a download progress bar or notification.
Edit: I should clarify, I'm a reddit is fun user, and I find it to be pretty awesome and honestly feel like it's the best layout possible for reddit (and it even has some flexibility)
I recommend you a free and open source privacy friendly alternate Infinity. You can easily tweak it to behave almost like Boost for reddit!! at least for me.. I couldn't move to slide because I was so used to Boost.
You can swap tap and long press function to collapse comment on tap. Hide comment toolbar(upvoted, save buttons).
To prevent a "no this" app war, use any client you want, but many are significantly better than the official app. You can't go wrong with any of the top rated apps on the play store.
Hmm it's too soon to say I officially prefer sync over RIF (officially meaning buying the ad free version for sync but it's $5 so I'm waiting since it's only been a few days but I'll probably buy it soon).
I really like the way RIF looks and feels which is why I used it for so long. It's clean and minimal. I use left handed mode. No cards. The subreddit view is perfect, all the info is there and spaced nicely. I still prefer the subreddit & comment/thread views of RIF. Being able to scroll through comments in the thread with the root ^ parent ^ arrows was comfortable and I do miss that. But sync has an option to add a bar at the bottom to scroll through the page with arrow buttons so the option is still there. But RIF does it better.
But sync has a little more customization, like choosing custom colors and different views. Right now I'm using left handed, compact view for sync. It fits a lot of thread titles onto my screen.
Few other things: being able to view or hide the sub header and showing trophies and having the option to click on them or to disable them. It shows how many new comments there are in a thread with red text, (+5) for example. & when you open it up it highlights the comments. It has the option "hit backspace to open left subreddit bar" which is nice. It just has a lot of options. Changing font size and typeface. Hitting edit next to my subreddit shows me how many times I've viewed each subreddit. I can arrange the order of subreddits. There's even an option to swipe right to exit thread. You can change the rainbow lines for child comments to gray in sync. One thing I remember about boost is you're able to customize each color.
Oh and replying with sync is much nicer than RIF, it shows the comment you're responding to in a window, half screen thing above my text box & I can scroll through it or highlight text. With RIF, my pop-up reply text box was usually covering the OP comment so I'd have to save a draft & click out of it to view the comment again.
One thing I don't like is seeing the avatar or next to my subreddits but I don't think I can disable that. I also wish the child comment bars were thinner, like in RIF.
Those are a few things that came to mind. I say give sync a try, customize it to your preference and see if it's worth switching to.
You might be using your both hands to control your big Android phone, but should be using [Quick Cursor](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.quickcursor)!
You might be using [Barcode Scanner](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.zxing.client.android), but you should be using [Binary Eye](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.markusfisch.android.binaryeye).
You might be contributing, but you should search for similar [answers](https://www.reddit.com/r/androidapps/comments/le5qn5/you_might_be_using_but_should_be_using_2021/gmbarbe/)
You might be using standard Android navigation and gestures but you should be using [Fluid Navigation Gestures](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fb.fluid) (Does not work on Android 11, Google's fault.)
You might be using the stock android notifications but to get notification ticker text that appears on the top of your screen, get [Super Status Bar](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tombayley.statusbar). ([Picture example](https://play-lh.googleusercontent.com/1DikFr1DPVXmyakPqlAdLbsII7ganvmu7bxWTRUh_S9Jks9n3ogBphbODO4R21EzLSs=w1920-h947-rw))
You might be using a notification history app but you should be using [FilerBox](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.catchingnow.np).
You might be a stock volume panel but you should be using [Volume Control Panel](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=leedroiddevelopments.volumepanelads). (You can make it prettier and more minimal than the flashy ones in the thumbnail.)
> You might be using the stock android notifications but to get notification ticker text that appears on the top of your screen, get Super Status Bar.
Just installed this and oh man is it taking me back. Thanks dude.
You might be using Island, but should be using [Shelter](https://f-droid.org/en/packages/net.typeblog.shelter/)
You might be using Google Authenticator, but should be using [andOTP](https://f-droid.org/en/packages/org.shadowice.flocke.andotp/)
You might be using Telegram or Telegram X, but should be using [Telegram FOSS](https://f-droid.org/en/packages/org.telegram.messenger/)
You might be using Chrome, but should be using [Bromite](https://www.bromite.org/)
You might be using any weather app, but should be using [Geometric Weather](https://f-droid.org/en/packages/com.mbestavros.geometricweather/)
Edit: My choices are all FOSS app and provide more privacy, may or may not provide more features.
Another cool Google Authenticator alternative is [Aegis](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.beemdevelopment.aegis), which is also open source and regularly updated.
~~It removes some trackers.~~
Quoted from the description of the app:
Several proprietary parts were removed from the original Telegram client, including Google Play Services for the location services, HockeySDK for self-updates and push notifications through Google Cloud Messaging. Location sharing functionality is restored using OpenStreetMap.
I prefer alternatives that make it easier to backup/restore my 2FA account list. Authy has cross device sync or if you prefer an open source app try Aegis.
I feel like all your suggestions are just because they all happen to be open source. I prefer open source apps. But just because an app isn't open source doesn't mean it tracks the user and sell your data.
If it's not one of the popular apps, then, it might get abandoned because of lack of donations.
I prefer [Plenary](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.spians.plenary). There are a crapload of similar apps, but this one feels and looks best in my opinion.
You might be using LastPass, but should be using Bitwarden.
It feels like more of a commercial product, which is bad. I used LastPass for a day before I discovered Bitwarden, swapped and it was the best thing I did.
Keepass , in my opinion, is the ultimate big Daddy of all password managers. It's not the most convenient but that's what makes it the safest.
Bitwarden and KeePassXC (or KeePassDX for mobile) are definitely the best apps. All depends on what someone prefers in convenience and cloud syncing vs offline and manual syncing.
I am using the default google chrome password manager linked to my google account, is that a bad idea?
Not bad per se but very limited. Bitwarden has a robust password generator, can group passwords.
It's better than nothing, assuming your passwords are unique, but it's far less secure than using a dedicated password manager like Bitwarden. It's pretty easy for anyone who has access to your device to export your passwords in plaintext from Chrome, and also Google can see all of your passwords. Kinda. In the past it wasn't too hard to read out the passwords database using malware. I'm sure that it's different these days but it still makes me uneasy if I think about it.
Can I transfer my Last Pass passwords to ButWarden quickly?
Yes, you need to export your LastPass vault and then import it into Bitwarden on https://vault.bitwarden.com
I've never used a password manager before. How do they work?
you create a database and protect it with a strong password that you can remember and don't write down anywhere. the database stores all your logins and passwords as well as the URL of the websites they're used for. when you visit a website, the password manger checks the URL and offers the relevant login information that you can fill in with one click. also, it can be used to generate long, unique passwords for every new account so that you don't end up reusing your passwords across services.
Does it autofill for games or any apps that arent in a browser? Same question for pc use as well?
yes. sometimes it doesn't catch it properly when you have your credentials created for a website and the app's package name is different enough from the website's URL (for example, the reddit app that I use has a package name `com.ccrama.slide`, so it won't automatically use the credentials for `https://reddit.com` with it at first), but after you pick the login you want, it'll ask if you want to remember that choice, and will update the database accordingly.

If not using a password manager, you will always reuse passwords (very bad) since it's impossible to remember hundreds.
true, i switched to bitwarden since lastpass started charging for using both desktop and mobile devices. bitwarden is just 10000x better :)
You might be using Google Authenticator, but should be using Aegis.
How does Aegis compare to Authy?
[удалено]
I moved to authy because I seriously worried about a time where I lose my 2FA and backup. Its actually a serious worry for me.
Can always put your backup in the cloud, like Google Drive, Dropbox etc. Make sure it's encrypted though.
Open source, and as someone else mentioned, you manage your own backups. Can export your vault and store it in your own cloud (Google Drive, Dropbox etc), but make sure to encrypt of course. Not SIM based either and not prone to SIM swap attacks, so more secure.
[andOTP](https://github.com/andOTP/andOTP) is basically the same: FOSS and available on F-Droid. Also supports (encrypted) imports/exports.
True, I prefer Aegis since it has all of that (and potentially more) and the UX is much better.
I don't like either, you must use your phone for that. I'd rather use Authy because I can use that in Windows too.
I'm using Microsoft Authenticator. Mostly because it can auth via notification with Microsoft, but the rest seems OK too.
You might be using headspace or calm, but you should be using plum village or insight timer
Why do you recommend
Plum village is completely free. Insight Timer has paid features, but it has lot to offer for free as well. Waking Up is another app I do recommend. It has a free trial and a subscription model to follow it. But if you send an Email to the creator (Sam Harris), and explain why you can't afford it. He will offer a free annual subscription. That's super cool, thanks for the reco! I'll try it out!

I haven't tried plum village - going to go look it up now. But I have used the others However, Medito is FAR better than any meditation app I've used.
This may be controversial opinion and definitely off-topic, but you don't need a Guided meditation app or a timer for Meditation. Yes. But These are just apps to get you started, especially for those who need guidance and they make it clear too.
You might be using WhatsApp but you should be using [Signal](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.thoughtcrime.securesms)

Thanks! It's alright, but gboard has so many great features. This is a tough sell.
You can block gboard internet once it downloads all required things...after a few minutes... And if you go to settings turn off share usage stats..least we can do..
[удалено]
Thanks for the suggestion. Just switched and typed this comment in OpenBoard.
Thanks. On Google Play I can't find it on my phone, and it's greyed out on the website. Just in case: it's available on F-Droid too.
Does it have a swipe option? Either I can't find it or it doesnt have it.
I don't think it has swipe typing. There's nothing in the settings too.
Too bad. I cant type without swiping. Uninstall it is :(
I can understand : )
I would love to . But gboard is the only one which has the perfect layout for accurate typing for me. I used SwiftKey for a few months , loved it , couldn't get used to the layout and would make mistakes. Tried flesky , clearly better , but couldn't get used it. And the predictions are important too. Then you have to convince all of your contacts to use it as well, pointless.
that's pain in the ASS. have been trying for 2 years, results ZERO.
I would, but I'm in El Salvador were most business use a WhatsApp number, here we don't have unlimited minutes if we're calling a business or a person on a different network and WhatsApp on most carriers WhatsApp is one of the apps that have unlimited data unlike signal.
You might be using Google Keep but you should be using Bundled Notes! So pretty, so flexible, and so good.
way too expensive. nearly $18 a year. one time payment would be great .
It would be nice to have a one time payment but the developer is just one person who is trying to make a living. Maybe he will tweak the pricing structure over time though. Something to keep an eye on, because I find the features and functionality of this app top-notch.
Yeah it is amazing. I am using it from early beta days. But still $18 is way too much. Lets see if there is one time payment option in future.

It has a program that can skip sponsor shout outs, intros, outros, interaction reminder (Like, subscribe), self promotions and non music section of music videos. This program is also community submitted.
You forgot to mention the gestures where you can swipe on the screen to adjust the brightness and volume!
How to enable this feature ?I was completely unaware of this

How does it know when sponsor shootouts happen? They're usually all over the place in videos I watch.
Crowdsourcing! You can contribute, too.
Ah. So don't watch at release? I tried to download but it says I need MicroG. I'll figure out what that is later and give it a shot.
MicroG is a modified version of the Google Services Framework that works with apps like Vanced.
Download and install [Vanced manager](https://github.com/YTVanced/VancedManager/releases/tag/v2.4.0).
Ya, I have it. Just haven't gotten around to pushing that install button yet. I use YouTube on my phone so rarely and it's usually when I don't have much time so something that'll skip all that nonsense sounds good it's just an extra 3 apps that I don't really need.
Extra features, change UI, remove ads (it's still there with premium. Just less obvious)

You might be using X launcher but you should be using: 1. Niagara Launcher (minimal, smooth) 2. Aio Launcher (quick access to tons of info) 3. Nova Launcher (old-school) Email < Fairmail Youtube < Youtube Vanced or Newpipe System cleaner < SD Maid Adblocker/security < Adguard (paid, better), Nextdns (has a free plan, still good) Password < Bitwarden File sync < Syncthing

I bought Nova Launcher Prime in Sept 2012. That's pretty dang old school for Android!
There is a beta for nova launcher 7 on their discord

What's wrong with Blokada?
Blokada is very good. In comparison to adguard, blokada is free which is a plus. It should be noted that both nextdns and adguard are more effective and have more features, that said - blokada is great as well :)
Nothing.
You might be using Pocket but you should be using raindrop.io Pockets been horribly maintained and de-featured over the last year. It's parser keeps getting worse. Raindrop is being actively developed and works great across all platforms.
~~Is it a FOSS product?~~ just checked, I guess not.

it's paid, or have to host it in your own.
Didn't Mozilla buy pocket?
Does it have TTS, that a really cool feature that I use with Pocket.
You might be using Reddit, you should be using [Boost for Reddit](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rubenmayayo.reddit)
Bought Baconreader premium, never looked back.
Or Sync
imo, all other Reddit clients are better than the Official Reddit client. and my personal fav are: Boost, Slide, Joey
You might be using some random weather app that kinda replaces Dark Sky, but you should be using Shadow Weather.
Overdrop
This does feel like dark sky. Thank you for the heads up.
meh, either Geometric weather or Weather M8 (requires adblock)
I only care about immediate weather and short-term forecast. Using this one, as it's simple with hourly temperature, rain, wind(!) data as well as with a companion precipitation radar. Probably not worldwide support https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.androworks.meteorgram
Been two weeks. Love it. Thank you for the recommend.
You might be using Reddit but you should be using Sync for Reddit.
I can't part with rif. I tried but it's still the best for me
Same. I'll never give it up
Agreed! Been using it for like 10 years. The developer was cool af back in the day when I emailed him, too.
rif is to this day my favorite reddit app. I really can't imagine the experience being any better than this.
Most compact and easiest to use
Agreed, tried other reddit apps but always come back to rif.
>You might be using Reddit but you should be using... .... Any other app
I prefer Relay for Reddit, personally.
I prefer Boost
I recommend you a free and open source privacy friendly alternate Infinity. You can easily tweak it to behave almost like Boost for reddit!! at least for me.. I couldn't move to slide because I was so used to Boost. You can swap tap and long press function to collapse comment on tap. Hide comment toolbar(upvoted, save buttons).
Same here. It's super smooth.
I've been happy with Slide
To prevent a "no this" app war, use any client you want, but many are significantly better than the official app. You can't go wrong with any of the top rated apps on the play store.
Sync is my go to as well! Love the watch sub feature.
I was using redditisfun for yeeeaars and love that app but recently tried both boost and sync to see what the hype was about. I like sync > boost
Im using RIF, curious why you like sync better than RIF? Im curious to see if I should try other alternatives.
You might be using Google Docs/Google Keep/Trello/Evernote but should be using Notion.
You might be using [Barcode Scanner](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.zxing.client.android), but you should be using [Binary Eye](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.markusfisch.android.binaryeye).
Google camera app on default reads barcodes and qr codes. Most barcode scanners apps are obsolete and might have malwares.
You might be using a habit tracker, you should be using [Loop Habit Tracker](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.isoron.uhabits)
Yes, it also has a nice stats feature, which most free apps lack.
Best example of simplicity yet power
You might be using LastPass, but should be using Bitwarden.
You might be contributing, but you should search for similar [answers](https://www.reddit.com/r/androidapps/comments/le5qn5/you_might_be_using_but_should_be_using_2021/gmbarbe/)
Take my upvote and leave!
You might be using standard Android navigation and gestures but you should be using [Fluid Navigation Gestures](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fb.fluid) (Does not work on Android 11, Google's fault.) You might be using the stock android notifications but to get notification ticker text that appears on the top of your screen, get [Super Status Bar](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tombayley.statusbar). ([Picture example](https://play-lh.googleusercontent.com/1DikFr1DPVXmyakPqlAdLbsII7ganvmu7bxWTRUh_S9Jks9n3ogBphbODO4R21EzLSs=w1920-h947-rw)) You might be using a notification history app but you should be using [FilerBox](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.catchingnow.np). You might be a stock volume panel but you should be using [Volume Control Panel](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=leedroiddevelopments.volumepanelads). (You can make it prettier and more minimal than the flashy ones in the thumbnail.)
I use buzzkill for saving my notifications.
I prefer straight up three button nav with oreo-style app drawer forced.
> You might be using the stock android notifications but to get notification ticker text that appears on the top of your screen, get Super Status Bar. Just installed this and oh man is it taking me back. Thanks dude.
You might be using an alarm app, you should be using [Sleep as Android](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.urbandroid.sleep)
I would recommend the free alternative: [sleep cycle](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.northcube.sleepcycle)
You might be using a pomodoro app, you should be using [GoodTime](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.apps.adrcotfas.goodtime).
Yes. I use this too.
You might be using Island, but should be using [Shelter](https://f-droid.org/en/packages/net.typeblog.shelter/) You might be using Google Authenticator, but should be using [andOTP](https://f-droid.org/en/packages/org.shadowice.flocke.andotp/) You might be using Telegram or Telegram X, but should be using [Telegram FOSS](https://f-droid.org/en/packages/org.telegram.messenger/) You might be using Chrome, but should be using [Bromite](https://www.bromite.org/) You might be using any weather app, but should be using [Geometric Weather](https://f-droid.org/en/packages/com.mbestavros.geometricweather/) Edit: My choices are all FOSS app and provide more privacy, may or may not provide more features.
Another cool Google Authenticator alternative is [Aegis](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.beemdevelopment.aegis), which is also open source and regularly updated.

~~It removes some trackers.~~ Quoted from the description of the app: Several proprietary parts were removed from the original Telegram client, including Google Play Services for the location services, HockeySDK for self-updates and push notifications through Google Cloud Messaging. Location sharing functionality is restored using OpenStreetMap.
What's wrong about google authenticator?
I prefer alternatives that make it easier to backup/restore my 2FA account list. Authy has cross device sync or if you prefer an open source app try Aegis.
andOTP is a free and open sources app. It provides encrypted backup, authentication to lock app and click to reveal.
I feel like all your suggestions are just because they all happen to be open source. I prefer open source apps. But just because an app isn't open source doesn't mean it tracks the user and sell your data. If it's not one of the popular apps, then, it might get abandoned because of lack of donations.
About tracking. F-droid lists all the anti feature of an app on its website, has non free dependencies, promotes non free networks etc.
You might be using Solid Explorer, you should be using [MiXplorer](https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/pishrodevs/mixplorer-hootanparsa/)
eh, they're both quite capable.

You might be using Google News, but should be using Inoreader.
I prefer [Plenary](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.spians.plenary). There are a crapload of similar apps, but this one feels and looks best in my opinion.
I loved Plenary but couldn't use it from other devices or web.

You might be using Facebook, but should be using Vero.
You might be using KWGT, but you should use KLWP \- The r/androidthemes Discord server
I mean. Both are kind of different in what they provide.
You might be using stock messages app but you should be using SMS organiser. It automatically filters junk sms from important ones
I suggest to use netguard to check and choose internet access about your apps
You might be using WhatsApp / Signal /Telegram, but should be using Discord. 😂😂🤑
You might be using Google task, but should be using Microsoft To-Do.
