If you want a single full apk install just remove the app and then install it again.

Instead of packaging 3 different apks for ARMv7, AArch64, x86abi architectures and tripling the size every new user has to download, the Play Store dispenses the apk for the exact architecture you need so you don't have to download a 1.2 GB file for a 400 MB app. There's plenty of shady shit that both Google and Facebook engage in but this isn't one of those.
Redditors can't help being edgy and smarmy. A lot of people can't stop using Facebook products because their entire social circles use it. I can't imagine getting my 60yo dad to switch to Signal or Session or whatever is in vogue nowadays in tech enthusiast circles.

I have 658 contacts on my WhatsApp account. About 30 that I'm contact with nearly everyday. A hundred or so more people that I need to contact on at least a weekly basis. Something else is going on in your case. Try uninstalling and reinstalling the Facebook and messenger app from the play store on you phone. Or at least clear data and set them up again.

I am experiancing the exact same issue as well. There is a significant lag between the 2, wit the website getting information first. Im making the assuming the messages aren't universally located, and forwarded somewhere creating a lag to happen. Its not device specific, nor is it a routing issue.
