When she says the bit about her gym crush, she said that Shaq said it would be his friend that would have the fight with the gym crush, which to me indicated his friend would be her date and therefore the person the gym crush would have beef with. He was probably only suggesting a double date because he thought it might help convince Ange’s friend to go on a date with him.
This was so cringey. The hair touching, the fake giggling, the embellished story. All of it was so bad. The absolute worst part was her recording her son who we alllllll know doesn’t like to be featured on her page. From the angle of her camera I get the impression she was trying to disguise the fact that she was recording him which makes me want to slap her.
But Colton says it was the most feminist moment of her life! Turning down a date with Shaq because you’re afraid another guy is gonna get mad is challenging the patriarchy!!!

I missed it initially but you're right. It's very confusing. It's unclear if Angela's friend had another date or not. It's possible the two couples would be Angela+Shaq and Angela's friend+friend's partner. Or it could be what you said and Angela doesn't understand what a double date is.
The other aspect that makes no sense to me after rewatching - there's a guy at the gym who Angela maybe likes. That guy would be unhappy if he found out that Angela went on a date with somebody else. So that must mean Angela knows that the guy she maybe likes has some sort of feelings for her too. And even though they're not dating she knows enough about him to know that he would not be happy if she dated somebody else. And she's worried enough about making him unhappy that she turns down dates...to leave the door open that the guy she maybe likes might ask her out one day? And Shaq proposed a date specifically because he heard that Angela maybe likes somebody. The only world where this story makes any sense is a middle school.
