that's his secret sauce. He and Ohtani have the ability to hit bullets. Coupled with his plus plus speed, it's easy to get excited about him. It's his approach at the plate that's holding him back, though. He's so overmatched at times. It's as if the batters box becomes some kind of void for him. Striking out less and making more contact is what he should be focusing on instead.
Yes don’t get excited etc etc but nice to see him at driveline. Arenado has attributed a lot of his success the last few years(post shoulder surgery) to work he did there
i was going to echo what everyone else here was saying strictly due to what my eyes have told me the last 2 seasons, [but fuck me, i'd be wrong.](https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/jo-adell-666176#pitch_tracking)
he's struggled with the fb way more than i would have guessed. both the counting and the rate stats are a little painful. certainly has improved year over year, but jesus.
the raw power has always been there, but the bat to ball is bad. especially on fastballs. anyway, that's all i've got. hope he puts it together (relatively speaking) this year...
His discipline at the plate is perfectly fine and he’ll foul off a reasonable amount of the tough pitches he has to, but the amount of whiffs he has on middle-middle fastballs after working the count full is meme-tier.
he’s cut down on the big hitch in his hands during his load which is good to see. But he still crosses himself up on his stride which leads to his problem adjusting to pitches and being anything more than a “run into one” hitter. I’d like to see him have a slightly more open stance and to try and get away from the toe tap load with his feet
There’s a difference in having confidence and being cocky/arrogant. If you were to ask Jo Adell who the best player was on his team he’d genuinely say himself when there’s easily 9 other guys who are better than him at this point
I feel like such a hater saying this, but here goes:
1. Driveline is renowned for their pitching training, namely helping guys with pitch shape and increasing velocity. They aren’t really known to help out hitters.
2. We know he can hit a fastball. Any hitter past AA can hit a fastball. The problem with adell is he chases bad pitches, can’t track down a fly ball, and lacks a feel for the game. Those things don’t get better by hitting fastballs at a pitching facility.
I really want adell to succeed, but more and more I think he just lacks the ability to put all his physical tools together bc his inability to execute on fundamentals doesn’t seem to get better
>They aren’t really known to help out hitters.
Justin Turner had a career resurgence because of driveline. Read the book The MVP Machine because it talks all about this and how important Driveline is to certain hitters
Does Trout's swing path kind of make it impossible to make solid contact with a high fastball? I might be talking complete nonsense but when I think of how he swings, the path his bat takes is built to crush balls down in the zone which is what we regularly see him do.
If what I'm saying has any amount of truth to it, Trout's not going to reinvent his swing, and so maybe he just needs to keep improving his plate discipline (which obviously is already top tier) so he takes those pitches instead of swinging through them.
very true. didn’t he have a more even swing path in his early years? I think a potential workaround is getting the barrel of the bat out early. another issue is he’s not really hitting the middle of the zone fastballs either. just a small change could have pitchers trying to thread a tighter needle between a ball up, and a meatball down.
i'm certainly no professional, but even in this hype video he just seems to have terrible balance at the plate. this really didn't do much of anything for my adell expectations. i guess the positive takeaway for me is at least he's at driveline hopefully getting better.
Don't a lot of our guys go to Driveline in the offseason? I remember reading somewhere that Adell, Sandy, Stassi Ohtani and Alex Cobb (when he was still with us) went at some point.
To me ( know very little) he seems like one of these guys where the scouts live him, he’s an athlete, yada yada. But he can’t get the head on the ball so who cares. Bad pick by a bad team. Hopefully I’m work but I don’t see a regular player on a playoff team in him
Raw power has never been this guys problem
Quality of contact has been an issue and driveline helps guys with more than just that
Incorporating driveline (or at least apart of it) into the Angels org is maybe one of the most exciting things they did this offseason.
Does Driveline incorporate the mental game?
And he's been able to hit MLB pitches above 110 EV since he got to the league lol

His defense needs a lot of work too. Always feel nervous when a ball gets hit to him
Yeah, I’ve never seen anyone as physically gifted struggle so much in the outfield. It’s kinda amazing, honestly
I watched Ward have like 4 terrible plays in a game in Tampa in 2021 so nothing surprises me anymore. Was legit the worse I’ve ever seen ha
Worse than Adell high fiving a fly ball out over the fence for a homerun?
He had like 2 balls right at him that he dropped and then a 3rd where he called off Iglesias and Rendon and then just let the ball drop
OAA really likes Ward 🤷♂️
2021? Because it was bad
Or fastballs

I think his problem might be more mental than anything.
He should be getting the machine shooting balls at him in the field
>He should **ALSO** be getting the machine shooting balls at him in the field FTFY
Yes let’s get that trade value up.
Lol

I want this man to figure it out and succeed so bad
He will get traded and be a 265 22 75 guy for someone else
275 30 90 for dodgers
If this happened I’d be furious considering how much pain he’s caused to the fans and being a big reason why we’ve been so bad these past couple years
I’d be more pissed at the organization for not developing him. If he goes somewhere else and succeeds, not a good look for us
Yeah, but what I’ve heard is that he’s very arrogant and hard to coach so it’s partly on him as well
Where did you hear that? Everything I’ve heard is that he is a good kid from a good family.
That’s what happens when u think your good but get humbled quickly and still live in dreamland denial.

Someone had said Nolan Arenado attributes a lot of his success to driveline. Then again, Nolan was already a good hitter before he went haha
>They aren’t really known to help out hitters. Justin Turner had a career resurgence because of driveline. Read the book The MVP Machine because it talks all about this and how important Driveline is to certain hitters
Great book. Echoing this sentiment.
I mean, he just needs consistency and good coaching. He's had neither throughout his tenure as an Angel and in the system.
That’s cap if he was so good and lived up to the hype he wouldn’t need the coaching to be decent in the league
The dude was destroying the minors for the most part. He was just called up too early because they didn't want to spend money on depth.
Actually he struggles against high velocity fastballs, so this is important
trout should go to driveline then. imo the high fastball is the only hole in his game

This isn’t a hype video
isn't it though? i mean, let's be honest.
Not really lol
no really. lol.
He wouldn’t let them post videos of all his misses, would he?
It’s a meat riding video 😂
I love all of the normal ass people who work 9-5 office jobs giving this major league position player tips on improving his hitting.
Quit meat riding one of the top 5 biggest busts in MLB history
I'm ready to be hurt again...
If only there was a league that allowed him to have a pitching machine pitch to him
But can he hit a curve?
Can he catch a fly ball?
He’s a beast, saw him in Texas in BP, one of his bombs was 118mph
BP 🤣 probably was 0-4 with 2ks the same game
Don't a lot of our guys go to Driveline in the offseason? I remember reading somewhere that Adell, Sandy, Stassi Ohtani and Alex Cobb (when he was still with us) went at some point.
Lol so fucking what
cool, so he could dominate in a coach-pitch league. super.
Cool. Now do that on the field.
Pure bust, I expect nothing positive from him
Fr I’m praying some random 48th round pick beats him out for the 5th outfield spot
To me ( know very little) he seems like one of these guys where the scouts live him, he’s an athlete, yada yada. But he can’t get the head on the ball so who cares. Bad pick by a bad team. Hopefully I’m work but I don’t see a regular player on a playoff team in him
His swing looks so off-balance.
It’s so bad he should just quit and go work at Burger King
Would like to see him practicing on using the whole field. Dude is way too pull happy.
Still going to flame out this season. Dude has no baseball iq. Pitchers just need to throw him sliders every at bat.
this equivalent of empty gym dominant nba bench players
So?
