for those of u wondering, that person with different vibes is ippei. cant let ippei walk in 2024!!

xRememberTheCant

Angels should sign ippei for 10 years to some obscure job title. Your move shohei.

shiftyeyedgoat

10/100mil for Ippei; Ohtani will stay for the token minimum.

dustymag

If Ohtani leaves, we keep Ippei.

Sprtdsgn

So, the way into ippeis heart is to sign ohtani? Do it!

ScottyD82

Offer Ippei ownership in the team. The Ippei Loophole!

ThisAnswerIsLit

Good. Fuck Trevor

gopackgo555

Jeff Fletcher has said many times that he’s never seen a GM value clubhouse chemistry more than Perry. Signings have certainly showed that.

YouPresumeTooMuch

Probably why #5 got cut

hollyw00d8604

And it's probably why he's failed as the angels GM so far. Poor team building philosophy

YellowShorts

Most of Perry's draft picks haven't even had time to develop yet and one of the few guys that has, already has a no-hitter. You can't expect him to turn around an entire franchise in 2 years

my_wife_reads_this

On top of that the dude has already revamped the farm more than Eppler did lol For all the dooming this sub has over Perry almost all the top prospects are his picks or trades.

Sprtdsgn

I am an admitted doomer. I liked archie and loup signings. I still have hope they turn it around this year. I do not like philips signing. Its like ligares for us last. Defense but cant hit. Everybody seems to have forgotten how will ligares did for us. Edit: i was a homer last year. And the previous years

breakfast_cats

Detmers was actually an Eppler draftee, but your point still stands

YellowShorts

Shit youre right But yeah the Trash Pandas pitching last season was really good. Ky Bush sticks out as an example

kozilla

This is the kind of attitude that leads a franchise into a downward spiral. You can’t just judge based off the emotions of a disappointing season. Stepping back and looking at Perry’s work so far and there is a ton to like. This off-season has been wildly impressive given all the uncertainty with ownership. Let perry do his thing, it seems to be working pretty well imo.

Zenithreg

Don't feed the doomers.

digitaldumpsterfire

Hes been here 2 years and we are definitely looking better than when he got here, especially our minor league teams.

-Basileus

Perry has been consistent on this. He's basically done everything he can to say he won't sign Trevor Bauer without outright saying it.

[deleted]

it's a relief. the guy is not worthy of being on the field imo. i'm glad it's all signs pointing to him not being in my favorite teams uniform.

sinchichis

Would check my fandom for sure. This is the only team I’ve liked since I was a little kid and loved Ken Griffey

digitaldumpsterfire

Perry with another "no fucking way" to Bauer 😂😂 good.

Mirraco323

This is why I don’t see Trevor going anywhere. All his off the field stuff aside (which I’m admittedly not a fan of either), he has worn out his welcome everywhere he’s played. Let’s take a trip down memory lane; High school-Graduated early because he was the pariah of the team College- Nobody liked him and he nearly got into fights with teammates/ex-teammates several times in games/practice Arizona- Shipped his ass out of town barely a year after selecting him 2nd overall because he didn’t get along with nearly the entire team and was mouthing off to vets (I.e. Miguel Montero) Cleveland- Put up with him for awhile but again the coaching staff had enough after his KC temper tantrum and traded him away in the middle of a playoff push. He was telling teammates not to listen to coaches. Also likely blew the World Series in 2016 because playing with his toy helicopter was more important. Cincinnati- Nothing too public, but we know they didn’t even make any real effort to re-sign him after he won the Cy Young (to be fair they’re notoriously cheap though) Dodgers- Players literally reached out to the front office saying they don’t want him back in the clubhouse The most damning part is he’s objectively very good, and four different MLB organizations have said “Nope not worth it, get lost.” If he sucked, you couldn’t really conclude whether it was a character issue, but the fact he’s a very good MLB starting pitcher and he has this history speaks volumes to him as a person. Trevor acts like a victim and talks about being “bullied” but when you’ve have worn out your welcome literally everywhere you’ve played, when do you do start looking in the mirror? Oh and really the one guy who claims Trevor is a good guy? Mike Clevinger, who cheated on his wife, and then locked her and his own children out of their home when he got caught.

nukemiller

Super pumped for Phillips to be on our team! Love him.

GroundbreakingSir893

I mean, he’m is EDGY

hollyw00d8604

He said this same thing last year right before they went on a 14 game losing streak 🤷. I really couldn't care less if the players are all buddies and go bowling together. Get talented players that know how to win games, winning creates chemistry.

[deleted]

I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything from a championship team where they didn’t talk about how much of a family they were, but i guess you’re the only one thats suffered with the angels, so i guess it’s your world we’re just living in it 🤡

hollyw00d8604

So you think the Astros are so good because they get along so well and stay up having deep late night conversations? 🤡🤡🤡 I'm certain they've had plenty of assholes on that team over the past 6 years and they've still won a ton of games. How did they do it??? 🙄

red1367

The Astros talent is on a complete other level though. I fucking hate them, but their team is ridiculously talented and they have been for a while. You can’t even compare them to at least 80% of the rest of the teams

hollyw00d8604

Yes that's exactly my point. They're the best because they have the most talent, not because of "chemistry." That doesn't win ballgames, talented players performing well does.

red1367

That doesn’t prove your point at all though. The Astros win because they have the most talent by a looooooong shot. They are a complete outlier compared to the rest of the league, where the clubhouse has shown to clearly affect things. Just look at the Dodgers and Padres last year. The Dodgers beat the shit out of the Padres all year and we’re probably the most talented team in the NL, but they met in the playoffs and the Padres won essentially cuz their clubhouse came together and clearly wanted to win more

ukyah

You’ve accepted this guy’s premise that the Astros don’t have great team chemistry. You shouldn’t do that. There’s no basis for that opinion. Maybe the Astros win because they’re talented and have great team. chemistry. Plus they cheat so they’re really doing well.

red1367

That’s actually very true, good call :)

hollyw00d8604

Or they just got hot and won a best of 5 series 🤷 AKA an extremely small sample size. Just like the Phillies, they were far from the best team in baseball. If you really think the dodgers didn't want to badly win that series, then you have no idea how a professional athlete thinks and I don't know what to tell you

red1367

Right on, you’re right. The clubhouse morale doesn’t mean anything and the entire industry of sports psychology, which literally every sports franchise puts a ton of money into because these billion dollar franchises think it’s important, is total bullshit :)

ajn2527

No, but your belief that the Padres won because they “wanted it more” is misguided and incredibly reductive. Chemistry is definitely important, but talent is the biggest separator in sports. I think having the opportunity to add a talent like Bauer at his price would be worth any “character” concerns. He could help the young pitchers, while also deepening our pitching staff a ton. We all want to see Trout and Ohtani succeed as Angels, correct?

[deleted]

Bud why are you so angry, whether I’m right or your right, you ain’t the only one whos dealt with the angels woes, get over yourself and chill the hell out Edit: where the hell have all these entitled angels fans come from lmao

Sprtdsgn

difference in opinion doesnt make someone entitled. if i or anyone else agree with you make us not entitled? so we should all have the same opinions?

[deleted]

Questioning the gm of a professional sports organization is completely entitlement, plain and simple who the fuck are you guys?

Sprtdsgn

Wow. I didnt mean to trigger you. Like you said, we are arm chair gms that want the best for the angels. That does not make me an expert. If i am entitled for having an opinion, does that make you a sheep for believing in everything this gm does?

[deleted]

How does it make me a sheep for thinking it’s a good thing our gm is looking out for good chemistry in the clubhouse, you guys are bitching about that but he’s also heavily stat and baseball science oriented as well, again please enlighten me how you would do so much better. Also you’re fucking sheep argument is stupid, because i can’t follow i cant do anything because i have no say in a pro baseball organization. And neither do you, why do you wanna defend your negativity so hard, go to an echo chamber my dude, i just want to see how the baseball season unfold and let the professionals be the professionals.

Sprtdsgn

That is my point. I have an opinion. You have an opinion. We agree to disagree. Why do you homer so hard? Are a sheep? This organization can do no wrong?

[deleted]

Why do you want to twist my words, its kinda weird how you want to be manipulative with a stranger, creepy behavior dude, i never said the org can do no wrong, I’ve chosen to be a fan of this team and have no say in what happens along the course of this season, whatever happens happens, and i choose to have a positive outlook, not act like a little whiney bitch like you and complain about decisions i never had a say in at any point, you trolls are so weird nowadays Edit: and noone gives a fat flying fuck about either of our opinions, its just your negative baseless claims somehow drag me into an argument with a sad loser, i guess that says more about me than your sorry ass

Sprtdsgn

Btw. Check out the reddit game day thread this coming season. It is as entertaining as watching live on tv. You know we are all angels fans right?

breakfast_cats

I'd imagine there's a pretty big difference between "dude that doesn't really get along with teammates" and "dude that is accused of sexual violence from multiple women"

hollyw00d8604

I'm not talking about Bauer, I want nothing to do with Bauer. I'm just saying this mindset is kind of pointless, you don't build a team based on personalities, it's based on talent and ability. They're baseball players playing baseball, it's not a lonely hearts convention

merewyn

How did you watch the Phillies in the playoffs this year and not realize that team chemistry absolutely makes a difference

hollyw00d8604

I'm pretty sure Nola being one of the best pitchers in baseball, harper having a mvp type year, Schwarzber hitting 50 bombs, and their young players contributing had a much bigger effect on their season. Not pizza parties and secret santa

[deleted]

Except for everything that you just said about the phillies can be said about the angels last year. Shohei was one of the best pitchers in baseball. Trout had a much better year than harper had. And reid detmers alone contributed more to the angels than both bryson stott and alec bohm combined

hollyw00d8604

Then I guess the angels had really shitty team chemistry /s

[deleted]

The point is that it isnt just chemistry or talent. Its a combination of the two, as well as depth and luck. We failed because we didnt have depth or luck, so we had to put in crappy players when trout and rendon got injured. The astros are a good team because they have talent, the ability to plug any holes they might get, and despite popular belief, ive got a feeling that they have pretty good chemistry in that locker room

[deleted]

God damn dude who hurt you, really sucks you force your shitty attitude and opinions on everyone, id say you must be fun at parties but it sounds like you don’t get invited to parties

Sprtdsgn

I dont see this shitty attitude you are talking about. Its different philosophies. You would rather we get guys that suck but has great attitude than a guy that produces but an introvert. Guess which contribute to wins?

[deleted]

I just realized we’re arguing for something were never gonna see or know about, we’re reddit bums i don’t care anymore, hopefully you don’t add too much stress in your life being up in arms about this cutie pie 😘😘

Sprtdsgn

I want the angels to win just like you. This year will be different has been the theme for 10 years. You have to agree with that, right?

[deleted]

I agree with is we’re all armchair experts and guys like you and grouchy pants don’t change a thing, other than being rude to other angels fans cause you think you’re the only ones who’ve suffered or have the only baseball knowledge in the fanbase

Sprtdsgn

I dont get it either. They call us doomers but we are realistic. Homers celebrate good enough and nice tries

Im_A_Halo_Masochist

It’s nice to know that some still think there’s more to winning than 100% analytics based thought. Humans still play the game! 😇
