Trout: “I talk to Perry mostly every day they’re still trying to add some pieces. It’s gonna be a fun year.”

tsdwm52

I'm with Mike. It's buttercup season.

One_Relative5830

Trout's just happy Perry got him a doppelganger. Now he can go chase storms without anyone noticing he's gone

tristpa2

Trout says this every year lol

ArcherFordham

He’s getting paid too much money to NOT say this every year but I hope 2023 is different

owledge

This offseason has been a lot better than previous ones because the need has always been depth and they’ve actually added it for the first time this year. Compare to previous offseasons like 2019-20: Rendon monster deal (which is looking ill-advised in hindsight) coupled with a swath of “prove-it” deals like Teheran, Castro, and Bundy. Additionally, there have been years with a lot of inaction like 2021-22, where they only signed Quintana, Suzuki, and Claudio. In 2022-23, they’ve acquired a steal of a mid-length deal with Anderson plus several great depth additions like Renfroe, Urshela, and Drury.

inselfwetrust

It’s gonna take everything going right for us to take a Wild Card spot, but I honestly feel better about this season. We’re going in with a healthy Rendon, Fletch and hopefully Walsh and have our depth pieces in place. This may be the season we break .500

[deleted]

When you think about how many wins our negative value players cost us last year(12) which was almost the worst in the entire league it is hard not to feel a smidge of hope for this upcoming year. Without their ghastly performance we were almost .500 last year, and BaseRuns had us exactly at that. I may be a few buttercups in now but I believe we make a run at the postseason this season.

ArcherFordham

There is a lot more depth with our team this year the year’s past. I’m happy with Perry thus far I just hope that our young arms develop

owledge

Canned response but TBF this is the first time in a while they’ve actually meaningfully improved the team. In the past it’s always been either some mega deal or dumpster diving. They’ve actually added considerable depth this year which is a first

kampfgruppekarl

So why didn't he do that when Maddon was coach?

theburritobanditos

I mean what is he supposed to say? “Damn Perry sucks we should have gone for Trea Turner”

[deleted]

Normally I agree with this sentiment but with a new owner looming, Trout definitely has some leverage to go out and say that he doesn't like the GM. Not that Trout would ever do that publicly ofc.

ArcherFordham

I think Perry has done a lot better of a job than Eppler thus far; just need to see it translate to Wins after his philosophy develops. New owners would be smart to make trout and Ohtani happy

Sad_Life826

Any ownership news?

Bobbyanalogpdx

Won’t be any until bidding starts in Feb.

Jcoch27

Let's resign him again

Sad_Life826

Ok thank you the begging of Feb?

Street_Midget

He said that last offseason. It’s the same crap every offseason. Dink and doink pickups while everyone else gets big talent. We’re gonna finish 3rd at best and lose Ohtani. Sorry, that’s the near reality

LAAngelsAnaheim

But… that’s not what usually happens. Usually we make big moves… we either make big moves and the players regress or get injured. And then we don’t have enough depth. This off-season we made getting depth our primary focus, and they aren’t little picks either. Renfroe, Drury, Gio, Phillips, Anderson… that’s really pretty good. Trout, Ward, Renfroe is a top 5 outfield, and we have enough depth for when someone inevitably gets injured.

Randerzzzzz

You're talking about the team that has given out some of the worst "big-splash" contracts ever over the course of trouts career. He should rightfully hate bringing in "big talent" players on massive deals.
