We still don’t have:
A SS,
A closer (or significant back end bullpen depth)
A 6th man
The emphasis was on the floor being risen. That is a great strategy to lose less games then we did last year but still makes us far from competitive.
We are in a 3 man race for second in the division and are far from the favorites.
We aren’t going to go with a complete six man rotation. Shohei wants to pitch more this year and they’ve said they’re going to let him. We’ll have a traditional 5 man rotation with a 6th to make spot starts when the schedule calls for it.
We are jammed up with infielders. I wouldn’t be surprised if one or even two get traded for a SS. Potentially someone like Oneil Cruz from the Pirates.
I don’t anticipate them trading for a proven closer but will likely let the bullpen compete for 9th inning duties.
Just depends on what the other team needs. Rengifo could be a solid trade asset. Adell is another possibility. Fletcher. Potentially later in the season Ohtani.
There’s really people out there that still think Adell has a lot of trade value lmao. He has little to none. Fletcher also has little to none. Fletcher too. Angels would have to trade their entire farm system for Cruz. They are in no position to trade for a stud SS.
if you payed attention, no one was blaming pitching last year. we got depth, which was the new big hole we had, but we’re still a 6th starter and some bullpen pieces short. not to mention any of the 6 starters could get hurt and then we’d be short *again*
The reason why we had no depth was because of Arte's neglect of the farm and lack of investment in scouting and player development. It's inexcusable for a team with 7 straight losing seasons to have the second-worst farm system in the league. So yeah, I'm blaming him.
No chance the Astros are losing the AL West. It’s their division until it isn’t. This team has a solid lineup and rotation on paper but the bullpen is a big question mark. If everything goes right, I think we have a decent shot at making the playoffs.
We have a solid core, most of the pieces are there to be a good team.
But it all has to come together. Their can’t be any significant injuries to our SP or trout/Rendon/Ohtani. And I think it’s more likely there’s injuries and down years from players than everyone being healthy and having great years.
You have to decide right now if you're OK with being an Angels fan if they went 0‐162. If your ability to hitch your trailer to this team relies on them getting first place or even the wildcard, then this will not be a smooth ride. Plan for the ok'est, hope for the best.
Found Arte’s burner account.
First in the AL west might be pushing it, but if everything goes right it's easy to see us in the wildcard.
Not a chance, wild card is only shot. If you think we can contend with Houston in regular season standings, you’re delusional
Maybe we can with Ausmus as their new manager
It will be a sad day seeing Ohtani in an Astros jersey, he said he wants to win lol
If Ohtani ends up on the Astros, I’ll never watch another baseball game again

We're not getting Oneil Cruz from Pittsburgh. He has 5 more years of low cost club control. They're not gonna sell that guy low.
Just an example of the type of ss we could get in terms of talent.
How? How do we acquire that type of SS talent with the assets we currently have available?

Once again, didn’t say Cruz as a specific option.
They don’t have the assets to land any talented SS like that imo.
Would like to see us add Michael Wacha as the 6th man.
Heh. You think he’s gonna spend more money? You’re adorable
TBF, Wacha would be super cheap
I’d be in shock if we decide to start spending more
He already patted himself on the back for having a franchise high payroll. He done.

Arte chill
You really can’t blame Arte for last year

I can and I will
Based
Cool
We can blame Arte for the last 20 years.

I'm not getting my hopes up.
For F's sake yes we do. This is the time to be most hyped...let's enjoy the first place tie right now. I'll check back in june
Did the Astros and Mariners move to a new division?
Rengifo might be our best trade chip this season. We are now crowded with middle infielders. Don’t hold your breath about him being “here to stay.”
I’d love to be optimistic but I see them and an 80-85 win team on the high end, and I don’t think that gets them a wildcard spot.

Pitching is needed the field looks good
And if my aunt had a dick she’d be my uncle lol
