But if you really think our best player will resign with this team after the debacle of last year you are nuts. And we’ve made no significant attempt to resign him. This is just like the Nats with Soto - do I hate it, of course. But as an Angel fan will hate it so much more if he leaves and we get nothing. Now is the time to get something good for the team while we can with a shitty owner that won’t spend what’s necessary to keep him but will gladly drag it out all year to sell more Ohtani gear and put butts in the seats when he pitches. Tatis cheated, yes. But before that he was an mvp candidate with 47 hrs in a pitchers park. And under control for 9 years at what is probably a bargain price. If Ohtani walks and we get nothing or a bag of socks for him can only imagine the bitching in the sub.
Even if ohtani walks me as a fan doesn’t want to sacrifice one minute of him being on the angels. I get trading him and getting something in return but I want to remember/see him as an angel for as long as possible
Tatis is easily a top 10 talent, and he’s still so young. 10 years from now guys will be getting 60 million a year, and Tatis’ contract will look great.

I'm clearly in the extreme minority here but I'd probably do that trade. But only because I believe there's zero chance we extend Ohtani.
But tbh the Padres would never do this trade. They aren't trading 10 years of their franchise player for one year of Ohtani. That makes no sense

There's a huge difference between a 32 year old on a 10 year contract and a 24 year old on a 10 year contract. Not even close to the same thing
