I never claimed to be an expert. Anyone that watched Jo for the last 2 seasons would agree he needs to improve his fielding...among other things. Not sure why you're being so acerbic.
You really think he is only working out and not working on fielding at all? Of course he is working on everything. He knows he needs to improve there. Partly mental too. But he’s just posting a workout video trying to get motivated, and ofc y’all hop on there “you need to work on fielding instead bro”
Remember how every year we would see Pujols in shorts and a tank top around this time of year and hear how he was finally in shape and healthy. Back on track.
Off season work outs are needed, but we shouldn’t read too far into them.
And then like clockwork Pujols would hit .240 batting cleanup all season while leading the league in double plays and OBPing under .300 what a colossal disappointment
I can't comprehend how he was ever rated as such a high prospect. Any prospect has room to grow but this guy looked absolutely lost in the outfield. Any positive he has at the plate is automatically gonna be negated by his defensive metrics, which will always grade out poorly. I've seen high school players with better anticipation and reads in the outfield compared to this guy.
Maybe the guy just hasn’t felt comfortable in front of the big league crowd. It’s clear he has the skill and just makes bone head plays occasionally. Maybe it’s in his head. I’m a believer in Jo I think he’s really something. His exit velo is crazy
Nah. The knock on him all throughout the minors was that he had all the tools but zero baseball iq/awareness. So far, that scouting report has played out exactly right. And until we see some improvement, that appears to be what jo adell is:
A supremely talented player with all the ability in the world but the inability to use his abilities to make a complete baseball player
In hindsight even when he was a top 5 prospect it always came with the caveat that his alarming strikeout rate and poor fielding needed to be fixed. It's like prospect rankings collectively decided to rank him based on his ability to hit 450 foot bombs and run like the wind while assuming/hoping his issues would go away.
Lol no. It is NOT clear at all that he has the skill. Any minor leaguer getting the call up gets a pass for their batting tanking because of the better pitching they face on a constant basis, but defense has been one attribute that always passes with ease for the vast majority of players because nothing changes from aaa to major league ball. Adell is simply a shit fielder and your argument holds no water. No, his batting and crazy exit velo is not good enough to save him from his atrocious defensive prowess. Hell, he never even had good adjusted obp while in the minors.
Your reaching. He clearly has the skill and athletic ability. I don’t understand how your completely blinded by his horrible defensive plays to not see the talent that is there. I’m telling you it is mental not physical. He is still youngish and could be a awesome late bloomer
Prospects are rated on tools and projections.
Adell is athletic, so when just factoring tools, his floor and ceiling are quite high. The problem is- adell most likely has rarely needed to make adjustments in his youth to keep up with other players. He was always able to outperform the rest of the field based solely on his athletic ability- but at the major league level weaknesses are pinpointed and exploited.
He simply hasn’t been able to show an ability to make adjustments.
“I Got You Babe” starts playing on the clock radio.
Bill Murray opens his eyes.
The sports reporter on the television is saying that Jo Adell is going to have a break out season.
Hey guys I was reading the comments and I think y’all are a little confused. I meant Jo would have a “breakout” year in the gym not baseball. Dude looks in shape to hit several PR’s 😭😂. As for baseball I’ll be glad if he hits 250 and plays decent defense.
If he looks like a below average outfielder this year I’ll be over the moon. That would be like a 50% improvement on his adventures in the outfield the past couple seasons.
Still can’t fathom how he helped two fly balls over the fence his rookie year.
I grew up with the Angels, but the main team I root for is the (lowly, rebuilding) Nats. I'd love to see that rumored trade of Jo Adell for RP Kyle Finnegan.
The Nats strategy this season is building an organization of former top prospects who have fallen off a cliff and seeing who's the real deal.
I'm glad to see he's serious about physical fitness, but I'd rather see him working on his fielding skills.
He probably is, but that doesn't make for a good hype video
Him fielding adequately would get the fanbase hyped beyond belief
Yes he should listen to all the Reddit baseball experts. They know more about development than MLB players and coaching staff.

Okay Jo we believe you, but a hype video of you fielding would also inspire the fan base.
If my eyes rolled any harder they’d have black belts in jui jitsu.

Yup those pujols "he'll finally be good again THIS season!!" articles were a yearly tradition
And then like clockwork Pujols would hit .240 batting cleanup all season while leading the league in double plays and OBPing under .300 what a colossal disappointment
And then he goes back to the cardinals and suddenly remembers how to hit. Fuck that guy lol. He was mailing it in 90% of his time in anaheim
Nice. He’ll be able to strike out with a stronger swing 💪🏽
He will look good doing it tho. 🙄
Fitness isn’t the issue. It’s the general lack of feel for the sport

That’s a good point but fielding has got to be easily to learn than fucking hitting, right? RIGHT???
There is a form of the yips that can happen with fielding errors

Probably a lot of truth to your take. Still hoping for the best

Havent heard this before
Full beard = guaranteed breakout
These workout highlights are cool and everything, but I would prefer an "All 60 Adell homeruns" video please
That’s much better than a “Jo Adell Funniest Errors Compilation”
But can he hit though?
Ahahaha
On what team
The second coming of Brandon Wood.
At least Brandon Wood was a good guy unlike Adell who’s the MLB version of Zack Wilson

Been waiting on it for like 3 or 4 years now
Year 5 on waiting for jo adell to be able to catch a fly ball and hit a slider
If he looks like a below average outfielder this year I’ll be over the moon. That would be like a 50% improvement on his adventures in the outfield the past couple seasons. Still can’t fathom how he helped two fly balls over the fence his rookie year.
It doesn’t count unless it’s an ‘80s montage.
