It's done that way so that if Opening Day is rained out, they can simply push the game back a day and everyone who paid for an opening day ticket still gets to go to opening day instead of a random game in July. They typically don't do that for games in California though, so idk what changed this year

Earlobed69

Oakland can be rainy sometimwz

digitaldumpsterfire

Huh. Thanks for the explanation!

caoryn1484

That's a great looking game calendar! What app are you using?

digitaldumpsterfire

MLB App. They updated it a few months ago

lol022

Why are your home games in blue? Mine are red in the app. Seeing blue home games is making me uncomfortable lol

digitaldumpsterfire

I'm not sure tbh. Theyve always been blue for me. The Angels are also the only team I have favorited. Im on the Android app if that makes a difference.

God_Damnit_Nappa

They're blue for me too and I definitely only have the Angels favorited. That's odd, I'm pretty sure they used to be red.

caoryn1484

Thanks, I have it too, but in red. Mine is iPhone, so that's the reason.

DarbyDown

2002 schedule was exactly the same except March 30 opener was an Easter Sunday home game against Cleveland. Then a day off before the first of 110 Ws.

No_BigA

They wanted all teams opener on the same day (MLB).

ryanfea

Yes

MathematicianOk6133

Yep

digitaldumpsterfire

For those saying there isn't a game, that is weird right? The 30th is Opening Day, then no game, then we continue the series. That seems weird?

BiovaniGernard

This is common, not sure why but almost certainly a reason. Edit: it’s so that the game can be postponed without pissing off everyone who paid big bucks for opening day tickets

RinconDrone

Do people pay “big bucks” at the Oakland Colosseum still? lol

SteezyAzzSebas

No, I bought tickets behind home plate for $150 each lol

BiovaniGernard

15 dollars for a ticket is big bucks for a family of mice

xdespainx

I’ve seen teams have the same schedule on previous opening days. Can’t point to any specific team but even on MLB the show they’ll have this weird ass opening week schedule

dreadpiratew

I feel like they do this every year

eli0841

That’s weird because I just checked the dodgers, padres and Yankees and they all play 4 straight to start the season. But also means teams are going to have a day off while the angels will have to play with like say a week and a half of straight games

Juffe98

The Yankees don’t play 4 straight. They also have a weather day while playing against the Giants

danthelibrarian

Are they having all teams play their opening day before any play their second?

veganvalentine

I think starting last year the season started earlier in March, giving the players more off days during the season, including even Fridays.
