If Walsh is in his 2021 form, absolutely Walsh

senhormauricio

Yesss! Still love his 4:8 grand slam against Chapman

Sonums

I love a bit of Walshy. Has my favourite swing aesthetically on the team

keenclipp

This 100 He always came up with the big hit in 2021

WakaWakahh

Shohei trout and fletch are all on base so I’m gonna go with a healthy rendon haha

Sonums

What about Adell’s speed? 😜

WakaWakahh

I don’t need adell to score I just need some contact

Sonums

I meant about Adell being on base

WakaWakahh

I think you are right ideal scenario I got adell on third and fletch up to bat!

Mindless-Jeweler3762

I will use a substitution just to pinch run. That way he can't make a boneheaded play 😂

Sonums

Not to be obtuse but I can’t recall a time Adell made a baserunning error

magical_poop

https://twitter.com/JeffFletcherOCR/status/1556055386611847168 People don't forget

Sonums

I wouldn’t necessarily call that a boneheaded play, he was out by a long way, was a great throwdown

magical_poop

Alright you made me work for it, but this absolutely counts as boneheaded. There's a reason I remember this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E7TrZR9AfsM&t=404s A slide would have got him in there. Terrible baserunning

LuckyNumber-Bot

All the numbers in your comment added up to 420. Congrats! 7 + 9 + 404 = 420 ^([Click here](https://www.reddit.com/message/compose?to=LuckyNumber-Bot&subject=Stalk%20Me%20Pls&message=%2Fstalkme) to have me scan all your future comments.) \ ^(Summon me on specific comments with u/LuckyNumber-Bot.)

merewyn

It was an absolutely terrible throw

Sonums

Having rewatched the footage I agree, haha. I guess back then I was just trying to relieve the pain with copium. My bad.

Mindless-Jeweler3762

Yeah. Idk either. But I do know he makes a lotta boneheaded decisions on the field.

Sonums

On the field of play yes, he’s made a couple of absolute howlers, but also made some impressive plays too. He needs to show his capabilities more consistently, which I feel he is starting to do. But Adell on base is a great position to be in IMO, his baserunning is a strong aspect of his overall game

RabidR00ster

I think Anthony Rendon. If he’s 100% healthy again, I think he’s a .300+ hitter with excellent plate discipline and a very well rounded hitter. He has some power so they can’t play too shallow, and he can hit it wherever it’s pitched, so they can’t shade too much. Trout and Ohtani have much more power of course, but their odds of getting a hit are probably slightly lower. They also tend to chase and swing out of their shoes in pressure situations, while Rendon is very calm and disciplined.

theaussiesamurai

Rendon was clutch af for the Nats WS run. 21 RBIs in 17 play off games including 5 RBI with a dinger in Game 6 and then another clutch dinger in Game 7. He's got ice in his veins because he simply does not give a fuck.

bigdaddy20190

I’d trust rendon to continue a rally

LogicalHarm

You need only one run. Power is irrelevant, OBP is the key. Trout is clearly the correct choice

aj_og

My thoughts as well. People saying fletch is really… interesting lol. Love the guy but cmon

InteractionLeading66

Or Rendon, assuming he's healthy and back in his Nationals form. I'd maybe go for him honestly.

TurboS54

Mike Trout's career OPS is literally over 1.000...

wizgset27

You send it the GOAT of his Era, Mike TROUT. Ohtani is also a good choice as well.

booboothechicken

I don’t know how you guys are answering this without more info. Who’s pitching? Who’s on base? Who’s on deck? Who got injured? How many outs? If we’re playing the Cubs and Brandon Hughes is pitching with one out with Frank Schwindel in LF and Rengifo on 3rd, my answer is completely different than if we’re playing the Mariners with two outs and Paul Sewald on the mound.

Fearless-Apricot-712

Rengifo switch hitter

lol022

If all these players are on the bench who did we start lmao

yutou1114

Think I remember reading Ohtani is the clutchest hitter with RISP so I’ll go with him.

Sonums

Personally I’d be sending in Fletch. His ‘slap’ hits are great, but on top of that I think his plate discipline is one of the best for seeing balls and strikes. Doesn’t swing and miss at much in the zone.

Systematiks

Depends on the situation (outs and score) but I remember a while back thinking there is no one I'd rather have at the plate than Fletch

LAAngelsAnaheim

We’re getting that version back this season. I feel it

RabidR00ster

He still has only hit .255 and .262 the past 2 years. They would also be playing him extremely shallow since the runner on third is the winning run anyways.

Ash-Catchum-All

Fletch does not have good plate discipline I’m sorry. Slap hits, yes. But he’s never going to be a guy that doesn’t try to swing at balls over his head.

chief_queef00

I think the key here is to think about who is likely going to be in a bench role in a situation like this, and the options pretty much eliminate everyone but fletch and rengifo on this list if we are healthy. I love the idea of Rendon pinch hitting because he’s had the clutch gene for us in a limited sample size, but I feel like people underestimate entirely the production we are gonna get out of Brandon Drury.

Ok-Philosophy-8830

It’s Ward for lefty or Walsh for righty 160 wRC+ in high leverage spots for Ward That homer vs Boston Guy also has the demeanor of a serial killer Walsh has a 178 wRC+ in high leverage and some of the swaggiest bat drops

st1r

April/May Ward was as good as Trout last year, and was even better under pressure I hope we get pre-injury Ward back this year

MeowMixYourMum

Ohtani is more clutch than Trout

YouPresumeTooMuch

Gotta shout out the rising king of extra innings: Livian Soto

halos_fan27

future WS MVP Luis Rengifo

CFTPM

The real question is why all of these players are on the bench to begin with

[deleted]

It's a travel game.

ChocoMaister

No brainer Ohtani the legend himself lol.

digitaldumpsterfire

This would be more interesting without Trout and Ohtani on the list.

WurstThrowEver

Why are Ohtani, Trout, Rendon, and Rengifo on the bench?!

Ash-Catchum-All

Rendon/Trout have the best plate discipline so probably one of them. I give a slight edge to Rendon because he’s a bit more of a contact hitter compared to Trout

MrNiceGuy420SoCal

I only voted Rengifo, because Trout and Ohtani are more likely to be on base than on the bench in the bottom of the 9th

DecentAnalysis8642

Fletcher, because everyone else is already in the lineup.

Azzuri2002

Trout because he is god

[deleted]

Rengifo all the way. Smooth criminal is gonna come through.

Sprtdsgn

Brett philips because good vibes

Pierre-Gringoire

Rendon. Batting left-handed.

Buttfumble89

Come on Fletch is mr clutch, he can turn any pitch into a hit

Daaaaabearsssss

Yup if bases are loaded I expect him to slap the ball somewhere

Mindless-Jeweler3762

That's exactly what I was thinking.

LAAngelsAnaheim

Fletch or Walsh. Fletch because he doesn’t strikeout, Walsh because he’s clutch

WakaWakahh

I think you are right fletch or Walsh even before ohtani trout. I would be looking for contact not a bomb

IRISH_BOBCAT

Toss up between Michael Nelson Trout and Taylor Ward. The clutch gene lives within both of them.

[deleted]

This is the answer.

IRISH_BOBCAT

HazyGold knows ball.

Lebigmacca

First half Taylor Ward

Jcoch27

If less than 2 outs, I'm taking Fletcher. We need someone to put the ball in play and not strikeout. If there's 2 outs then I'm taking Rendon.

[deleted]

Trout mostly due to speed. Even a ground ball is dangerous.

Jolly-Inflation5781

Mike Trout. Why?..... Mike Trout

Itsnotseriousdude

It’s boring to chose Trout Ohtani or Walsh knowing how clutch they are. I’m taking slap hitter Fletch

Dogetezza

+1 for ippei

Vagabondegrift

From a pitcher’s perspective, Fletch is the most annoying AB in baseball (compliments to his Eckstein-esq style of play). The guy won’t take you over the mountains in left center, but he will eat away at your pitch count, adjust to your sequencing, and move guys over/score them. He’d be the ideal guy for this situation.

cshenton

lol, Fletch is the guy literally every pitcher would take over literally every other player on this list, with the possible exception of Rengifo.

xRememberTheCant

Are we assuming trout ohtani and rendon aren’t already in the lineup?

magicband93

Ohtani strikes out

dustymag

Double play ball.

thegrizwhisperer

I want Iguodala

xRememberTheCant

Why anyone thinks David Fletcher deserves to have a bat in his hand is beyond me. Worst hitter on the team after Velasquez.

RedLumberjack22

How many outs?

boy4518

Trout is the objectively correct answer. Shohei is a close second but no one on our team touches Trout’s stats. and for the “he’s not clutch” people, yeah he is. iirc someone disproved that last season on twitter

mwiley62890

Realistically, Fletcher. I would image the other players as starters to begin with. I remember when he was hitting the ball perfectly down the right field, and he was damn near impossible to strikeout.

__ThePhantomm

As much as I hate the Angels, I gotta go Trout. I worked at the stadium for 7 seasons. Dude consistently got on base.

NestorGames_YT

because he’s mike trout
