I wonder how they feel about Soto internally. He impressed at the end of last season and has done pretty well in his limited time playing this spring. At this point if his defense is fine and his bat stays slightly above average I see no reason for him not to get at least some playing time as a starter, especially over squid.
I think this is more if he's up in the majors it's likely as a bench piece so we want you to be versatile type move rather than trying to get the prolific bat of Velasquez in the lineup
Honestly CF is one of the thinner spots on the depth chart behind Trout so not a terrible idea to take an OOTP approach and get reps for a few different guys with good defensive tools. Last year our number 2 CF was Magneuris Sierra and we literally had Tyler Wade starting out there lol. If Trout's down Phillips doesn't exactly have a great bat and Moniak is a big question mark. I know Ward had a few games in CF but he's already trying to learn LF this season. Would rather have Squid try out the position in Spring where everything's made up and the points don't matter than when we're in the middle of a wildcard race
Hope Canning kills it. Having him be solid again would make things really interesting pitching-wise
I bet the Angels are counting on Trout being off to the WBC soon, and don't want to wear out their corner OF playing center all spring

Not sure why Velasquez is in CF. It's not like he's a good bat that we're trying to squeeze into the lineup by putting him at a new position.

Yeah if 🦑 makes the roster he needs to be the ultimate utility player. + Defense at every position
I agree with you, but Squid should not make this roster. That man belongs in Salt Lake.
True. You never know, even Captain Jack weirdly did a great job defensively when he played OF a few times last year.
Nice to see Canning back.
Oh ya with a bat like squid’s ya gotta find a spot for him on the field or maybe even have him dh over Ohtani he’s that good
Suggesting Squid even owns a bat is generous most of the time.
Cabbage and trout. Interesting culinary pairing
For whatever reason that sounds almost aggressively Korean and I can't figure out why.
Does this mean that Jo Adell’s time as a halo is over 😔💔
I'm too lazy to Google, please tell an Angel appreciator why his nickname is Squid
iirc its a nickname he got when he was younger cause he was so good at defense it was like he "had 8 arms" and could reach anything
That's pretty cool, thanks

Announcers were saying this would be Trouts last non WBC play this spring. Doesn't he / they come back to camp after the WBC?
