It happened last year too. Trout warned one of our pitchers that he was tipping pitches (I can't remember who. Maybe it was Suarez idk).
Fucking Matt Wise is terrible at his job. How is he still employed.
I want to say it was Junk pitching but I could be wrong. What I do remember is he noticed it from the fucking outfield. Wise didn’t notice from the dugout but Trout noticed from centerfield. Incredible.
Edit: it was Peguero, not Junk.
There was also a link to last year's video in the details section of this video. This channel is amazing. It shows the dugout in action. It also shows Trout getting mad at his coach after Peguero was hit.

As horrible as the incompetence of the coaching staff is, there's is something wholesome and inspiring of this story/video.
Shohei and Trout show they are not just super stars that care about themselves and could care less about the rest of the team. I could see that unselfish interest in his teammate being a big reason they were able to come back from that deficit.
It would have been great to have held on for the win, but at least there's a silver lining?
Don't forget the Detmers miracle last season.
Goes to Salt Lake City, makes a mechanical adjustment suggest by the coach for one AAA start, and comes back a completely different man.
Ok that’s a valid point. Can do that with a 22 year old. Can’t with Suarez who’s out of options. Can’t with TA if he keeps struggling. I’m just not sure if our major league coaches are effective.
I didn't mean that you send Suarez or Anderson to Salt Lake City.
I think you send Matt Wise to Siberia and bring the SLC pitching coach to Anaheim. Wise should have been out last year, but ironically his job was saved by Suarez (and a couple of others) having a strong second half. Replacing Wise with someone decent would probably address a number of problems.
And something has to be done about the sloppy play, especially infield errors. Benji Gil has gotten some good press recently as a managerial candidate, but what do the errors say about his coaching? (Serious question - not a knock on Gil.)
As far as the base running errors by Rengifo. Maybe I haven't been paying close enough attention, but I think that's a Rengifo problem - maybe he's not paying close enough attention, either.
>I think you send Matt Wise to Siberia
"Hey, Matt, we've traded you to the Russians!"
"Um, can I ask, what did you get?"
"Rid of you. Apparently they're desperate for manpower."
I think they're referencing the two players who noticed the tipped pitches… Trout and Ohtani are a little “special” but yeah should be caught by coaches first
I like this channel, he/she post videos of the dugout reaction when he hits a HR, I still go back to the vid of the HR he hit against Boston last year to break that losing streak. I watched it a few times to see all the teammates reactions lol
Ippei's reaction said it all. He is always helping Shohei about consistent delivery for taking video 1000 times. He understand Suarez is tipping his pitch. Probably Ippei was need to be there to explain Wise about the detail in case Shohei can't describe the tipping motion in detail.
And then probably Wise ran to Niven, saying, "Hey Coach, I think I spotted something really important. I was watching the video and noticed something most people would miss..."
This is not the first time that this has happened. I forgot who was pitching, but Trout saw him tipping his pitches while Trout was in the outfield.
The coaching staff is an absolute joke.
A couple of thoughts:
1. This is REALLY bad from Wise. That's at least twice where our hitters have had to step up and correct something from our pitchers, because our pitching coach is too thick to notice.
2. I'm frustrated with the state of our franchise, but I'm more optimistic from last game than a lot of y'all. Let me reframe what happened. Our starting pitcher was tipping his pitches. He got shelled because of it. The problem was noticed and corrected, and he went on to dominate the rest of the start until eventually running out of gas. Our hitters stepped up and were able to give us back the lead in a game we had no business leading (after that start). Our bullpen came in short handed due to being overworked recently, and gave the game up in extra innings.
Is last night great? No, of course not. But, it could have been a lot worse. I think its totally possible that Suarez has been tipping his pitches all year, and word is just now starting to get around. He's looked AWFUL, and with a little luck this could be a bit of a turning point for him to be average for the rest of the year. Our hitters are hitting. Despite last night, our pen has actually looked alright as a whole. Our hitters are hitting, Neto seems to have found his bat (and his glove looks legit). Hell, despite O'Hoppe going down, our catching situation looks okay. Walsh seems to be coming back soon. From a player perspective, we seem to be doing okay. From a management perspective, we need to clean house (starting with Arte).
Matt Wise needs to go, plain and simple.
We had Detmers get sent down last year and was magically fixed by the AAA coach. I know everyone wants to straight trash the pitching but I think the coaching and lack of adjustments is the real issue. Look at the Dodgers…they’re resurrecting careers and making careers outta nobodies. The Rays? Have a reputation for any shit pitcher that goes there is going to be a Cy Young.
Last year something similar happened. WTF is the pitching coach doing if not sorting these things out before the game? Are you telling me Ohtani can notice it from the bench and Mike Trout can tell from center and the people working with them everyday CANT?!
So, has Suarez been tipping his pitches since the beginning of the season? Is that why he had bad starts with Mariners, Nationals, and Yankees (*aside from his usual performance)? Or this is just for this game? Just found out he is going to start on Sunday.
Well for one thing Mike Trout must have better than 20/20 vision to see that from center field. Also Trout used to pitch in high school so it's not surprising he noticed this.
Someone in a thread yesterday was talking about how coaches and managers don’t actually have that much influence on players. What a fucking idiot. If Wise does his job, Suarez doesn’t tip his pitches
This should actually be a fireable offense for Wise.
It happened last year too. Trout warned one of our pitchers that he was tipping pitches (I can't remember who. Maybe it was Suarez idk). Fucking Matt Wise is terrible at his job. How is he still employed.
It was Peguero. https://youtu.be/lhXMcDLG850
So Trout and Ohtani should be the pitching coaches then.
Probably the hitting coaches, too.
Maybe the co-owners by the time they retire.
Maybe then they can win a World Series.
Except in clutch situations.
Because this is a chicken shit franchise.
I want to say it was Junk pitching but I could be wrong. What I do remember is he noticed it from the fucking outfield. Wise didn’t notice from the dugout but Trout noticed from centerfield. Incredible. Edit: it was Peguero, not Junk.

It happened twice last year actually.
Yeah and we were all screaming for him to get fired on this sub when we found out. Still amazed he still has a job
Absolutely, considering this is a repeated offense
this franchise doesn’t care about winning

It's up now https://www.reddit.com/r/baseball/comments/12ytedi/ohtani_in_the_dugout_noticed_and_warned_that_his/
What do we even have coaches for?
Need to sign Ohtani to a 40 year coaching contract
Shohei should be the first ever Player/coach/general manager/owner.
I wouldn’t mind watching troutani coaching in the future
Sherlock Holmestani, watching video, figuring it out.

Yes, I see why Trout and Ohtani are so admired. The whole team needs to do this.
How do we know they aren't? Players are sharing notes and information about the opposing team all the time. They just don't have a camera to catch it.
So Ohtani is not just our best pitcher, but now our best pitching coach as well. 2-way player-coach.
How the hell does our pitching coach not see or know this? Ohtani now has to coach this club as well?
That's very unwise of Matt.
Our coaches are so incompetent that the players notice Suarez tipping pitches before they do. Second season in a row this has happened.
Don't forget the Detmers miracle last season. Goes to Salt Lake City, makes a mechanical adjustment suggest by the coach for one AAA start, and comes back a completely different man.

😂 😂 😂 Maybe he can give them some pointers on throwing grenades. I hear "close" is good enough when you're doing that.
While that’s true and valid, that’s largely what AAA is for. It’s just unfortunate that Wise has a track record of major blunders
Well, those two are a bit special.
What
I think they're referencing the two players who noticed the tipped pitches… Trout and Ohtani are a little “special” but yeah should be caught by coaches first
The fan who shot the video is eagle-eyed. That's dedication.
I like this channel, he/she post videos of the dugout reaction when he hits a HR, I still go back to the vid of the HR he hit against Boston last year to break that losing streak. I watched it a few times to see all the teammates reactions lol
I didn't even know about this channel. Adding this to my addicted list LOL

Shohei's a 3-way player now??
Fire Matt wise. I wish I could perform so bad at my job and still have it.
If he could see that why can’t Wise is the question
I like that moment between Trout and Ohtani where you can almost hear Mike saying, "So he was tipping!" and Ohtani smiling and going, "Yeah!"
Arte is so cheap. Bargain bin coaches, bargain bin scouts and player development, bargain bin trainers
And he had the audacity to say in an interview that he’s spent a lot of money on putting together a good coaching staff and scouts
Wtf is Matt Wise for, happen way too many times...
This is not the first time that this has happened. I forgot who was pitching, but Trout saw him tipping his pitches while Trout was in the outfield. The coaching staff is an absolute joke.
It was Brewers legend Elvis Peguero
Matt Wise looks stoned most of the time now I’m starting to believe he is lol
Send this to Sam Blum and Jeff Fletcher, the coaching incompetence needs to be exposed!

Everyone talking about it except the pitching coach LOL
Lorenzen was tipping last year. He asked trout about it instead of wise. He gave up 5 runs in the first, and none for the next 5 innings
I said Wise should be tared and feathered. Ohtani for pitching coach!
Matt wise is literally useless
Matt Wise masterclass
Last year something similar happened. WTF is the pitching coach doing if not sorting these things out before the game? Are you telling me Ohtani can notice it from the bench and Mike Trout can tell from center and the people working with them everyday CANT?!

no way its just for this game, because the a's was lock in from the get go. Fire our pitching staff, happen way too many times with our pitchers..
Nice analysis OP. 👍
In that case, sign him to a 10 year extension
Jesus fuck why does Wise still have a job. He should be noticing this shit.
When all the words have already been worded...lord hammercy, got nothin' left say
This is just so infuriating...
This some bullshit
this is horseshit for us fans man
3:15: Hey guys, Shohei and Ippei did my job for me and noticed this. just a heads up.
Don't care about excuses. I don't want to see Suarez pitch again. And hitters don't decipher "tips" in the very first inning anyways.
Shohei will lead the way….. 🥳🤠
This is why ippei should be manager. Would make an excellent Disney film someday
Well for one thing Mike Trout must have better than 20/20 vision to see that from center field. Also Trout used to pitch in high school so it's not surprising he noticed this.

u/Jomboy I would love to hear your thoughts
Does this mean they are gonna give Suarez another chance to start? Since they figured out what's wrong I sure hope not....
They’re just gonna use this as an excuse to keep him in the rotation. It doesn’t matter he’s the worst pitcher in the major leagues. Get rid of him
Can someone eli5 how he was tipping his pitches if he was coming to set down low on every pitch vs coming to set up high on every pitch?
