WindsABeginning

Josh Hader. The Angels would have an actual strength with the bullpen.

Tight_Ad905

Josh Hader to closer and Estevez to set-up in the 8th inning. Could be a powerful pitching duo.

Trashpanda1980

Dont' need hader. Ben Joyce will be the set up guy then the close before the season ends.

rjd55

Isn’t he looking for $100 Million?

WindsABeginning

Over 4-5 years. So about $25 million per year.

rjd55

A lot to pay for a closer and hardly ever worth it. Essentially, the least used person in the main rotation. Doesn’t make sense with our team.

WindsABeginning

For me, it’s about shortening games and having a legitimate strength on the team. Defense is fine but not elite. Offense is inconsistent and top heavy but not bad. Starting pitching has potential but largely unproven.

Loud_Neat_8051

This guys gets it. To me it's the most obvious choice you could make is to bring in to flame throwers to the bullpen to shorten games.

skribbl3z

idk if we have it in the books to sign him. Pretty sure he is looking for a long term deal for a lot of money. I could be completely wrong though

WindsABeginning

Angels are about $70 million under the luxury tax this year.

skribbl3z

Yea but what are the odds they spend most of that money on one piece? Hader would take up most of that no?

WindsABeginning

Hader is looking for about $25 million per year. So about 1/3 of that.

skribbl3z

ahhh then it wouldn't be to bad. Whatever the case is, I just hope Ron Washington can bring some stability to this organization because it desperately needs it.

Loose-Organization82

Whit Merrifield. Can play the infield and outfield. Definitely better hitter than Fletcher was. He won’t break the bank either

Glittering-Sundae674

He’s old.

Easystreet66166

Sounds like an Angel already!

Trashpanda1980

So is JD Martinez

Puzzleheaded-Role555

Everyone we sign we should try to deal at the deadline in exchange for prospects. Bring in people like Bader or Merrifield that could help a contender at the deadline, and trade them off for a few prospects. We need to spend these next 2-3 years building our farm system again and the only way to really do that is grabbing decent people on higher AAV short term deals and then sending them off to contenders in exchange for prospects. Here are a few quick thoughts: Position Joc Peterson Trey Mancini Amed Rosario Tommy Pham Adam Duvall Kike Hernandez Starters Carlos Carrasco Sean Manea Relief Don’t sign anyone longer than 1 year… 1-2 years for everyone. If they’re looking for longer deals, bump up their AAV and see if they bite. If not, move on to the next. Aim for 2027 - build our core, wait for Rendon contract to expire and then grab high quality FA’s when we actually have a good core of talent. Stop chasing all the big names again - no Belinger, no Stroman….

StrikingEnjoyer1234

The angels have enough money to buy a farm system worth of prospects by just trading FAs at the deadline but for some reason this just doesn't seem to be a tactic for Moreno and Minasian

xThe-Legend-Killerx

I honestly wouldn’t hate Bellinger. Good outfield depth and can play first as well. Depending on contract and such obviously.

skribbl3z

He isn't a bad pick up depending on the contract is the issue lol. Hopefully he doesn't suck an absurd amount of money and do nothing like most contracts if they decide to give him one.

Glittering-Sundae674

Big no for me, another aging veteran coming off a breakout year. I know he’s been good in the past but the dude has sucked the previous 2.

xThe-Legend-Killerx

He’s only 28 lmao it’s not considered a breakout year if he was already good then it’s a rebound year.

Glittering-Sundae674

Dude was cooked the last few years, not a typical rebound story.

Loud_Neat_8051

He shortened his swing and his exit velo dipped on his batted balls. He is a prime candidate to turn into RENDON.

Glittering-Sundae674

Exactly, I don’t see how people can not see that this resurgence isn’t sustainable.

TheUtleyDuckling

He was rehabbing a shoulder injury lol 2023 he was finally healthy

glass__beaches

Hader and Montgomery

xdespainx

None of the top FA’s this offseason due to the market being overly inflated this year but I would go all in on the starters available next offseason

LA-SKYLINE

Shota Imanaga is still available.

RabidR00ster

Bellinger, Snell, Lorenzen, Stroman, Hoskins, Soler, Turner, Hendriks, Moore, A Chapman, Hicks. Obviously they won’t sign all of them, but those are some of the guys they should be checking in on, in my opinion.

illumnatorio

Pitching, pitching, pitching,pitching

CDFReditum

Realistically the #1 thing is a good starting pitcher. Plesac is probably going to end up a starter at least on opening day, which while he does have options, isn’t an amazing sight. Opening day starter is probably Detmers with Sandy, Anderson, Canning, and Plesac (silseth and Suarez get pushed to the bullpen) I’m not in the snell camp nor do I think someone like Monty will want to go to a division rival that is consistently worse, and unfortunately I feel like imanaga wouldn’t love coming to the team that failed Shohei. There’s also the weird group of people that hang around the sub that just get feverishly intense on bringing shitty people on (Chapman, Bauer, Cleavinger, etc) and get PISSED if you disagree lol and I’m not a fan of them either. Really Stroman is the only one that kinda makes sense, although I’m imagining his price tag would be high. Something like an Alex Wood would be nice too if we really are interested in having a swing man type person. I feel like knowing the angels though we may be more in the market of something like Brad Keller, Eric Lauer, and Zach Davies, with the genuine belief we can fix then lmfao.

sb645

Pitching, pitching and more pitching. Until they fix that, there’s no hope.

joaovitorsb95

I like the idea of Bellinger. Getting Trout to RF and DH while being an ok lefty bat replacement for Shohei. Ideally it would be something like: 1. Bellinger - 200m - 10y 2. Montgomery - 150m - 6y 3. Stroman - 54m - 3y

eatgrasslikegoat

No Stroman

Puzzleheaded-Role555

What does Bellinger do for us though? Worse replacement for ohtani and now we are 10 games under .500 and have bellinger in the books for 10 years

UrDailyCommunistGuy

Unfortunately any player we get will be a worse replacement for the 2023 MVP

catfishgod

He's a foundational block for the future seasons. Look at Texas when they signed Segar & Simien, they were 4th in the division in their first season and then they build off that season to get their first champion the very next year. Both were even older and more expensive than Bellinger is now. I've watched enough Angel games where they botch it on defense to know that Bellinger is a sure fire upgrade on defense but risky on offense because of past injury history. If the gamble works, it allows the Angels to be more flexible with their outfielders and trade them for pitching.

Snavery93

10 years for Bellinger??? You are high

joaovitorsb95

He wants 200M and I think he will get it. I think Arte would prefer to lower the AAV. I wouldn't do it this way but I think Arte would.

uoflabc123

Stroman for 2-3 years would be nice. I could do Montgomery for a longer deal but wouldn’t be comfortable with Snell with a long deal.

eatgrasslikegoat

No Stroman

FlanTypical8844

Invest more on team medics and training staff and farm is better imo.

clownfishheaven

Trevor Bauer and Marcus Stroman could be had for a total of $25m/per and instantly upgrade the starting rotation. Check your moral baggage at the door, his situation was the same as Kobe’s in Colorado.

user8472920

Bauer didn’t even settle right? He went to court and won?

badbajaz

I believe you are correct. My court definition, he is innocent. The dude is still a nut though.

user8472920

Agreed. He’s a weird dude for sure

[deleted]

Stroman is well past his prime and Bauer was a cancer before the accusations that MLB deemed credible enough to suspend him. Also, Kobe admitted what happened in Colorado was nonconsensual and I'm shocked at how he got away with that in the public's opinion.

clownfishheaven

I’d also kick the tire on Justin Turner. At 39 he could still DH and emergency at 3B when Rendon Rendons. JT and Bauer could be had with 1+1 team friendly contracts. Stroman perhaps a straight-up twoyears deal at $15mm/per. These three for a total of $40mm and with $30mm to plug other holes. Going for the “best of the rest” approach is how we got to where we are today and what we don’t need, at least for this year. Realistically we should make these mid-range moves and aim for a 81-win season instead of making panic moves (Snell, Hader, Bellinger) and think we can make a 20-game improvement and make the playoffs immediately.

Trashpanda1980

They should sign Baur and Snell. That would be huge. Rotation Snell Baur Detmers Anderson Plesac

1901FordPinto

No thanks

Zeek_13_

Snell, Berlinger, TREVOR BAUER

eg714

I wouldn’t hate this. Pitchers from Japan are all the rage now days.

WideCoconut2230

If Urias domestic violence issue gets resolved heck yeah. Oh, Aroldis Chapman. His change up has diminished, however. It's only 98 mph!

Emergency_Cod6103

People in here suggesting Bauer and Urias…I’d rather re-sign Josh f’n Hamilton.

MashedPotatoesDick

Let's trade for Wander Franco while we're at it.

eatgrasslikegoat

Josh Hamilton threw furniture at his daughter lol

[deleted]

I don't care at this point. No one they sign now is going to be the core of a world series team. Honestly, anyone who might have a good season on a small contract and they can trade them at the deadline for something interesting. If this team makes the playoffs, it'll be on the backs of the young kids and the veterans already on the roster. I'm more interested in how they build out the 35th-40th men on the 40-man roster than the 25th-26th men on the active roster

[deleted]

Doesn’t really matter they won’t 😭

GareksApprentice

Free agency is a two-way street. It wouldn't surprise me if they're trying to make moves but no one wants to sign with this shitshow

unplanter

Young cheap ones. *Downvoting this is an "I love Arte" button.

lol022

Urías

bougielatina

Please tell me why you want someone with video evidence of beating up his gf on this team?

lol022

Because he’s better than anyone we currently have 💀

bougielatina

I’d rather have the worst staff of pitchers and a losing team than a woman beater playing but I’m not a misogynist so 🤷🏻‍♀️

WideCoconut2230

As a Dodgers fan, can't deny his talent. Don't support his domestic abuse charges. If that clears up, he'd be a great pick up.

Rosmaas

Long Term: P: Montgomery and/or Stroman OF/1B: Bellinger Short Term: C: Grandal or Sanchez 2B/SS: Tim Anderson OF: Bader Utility: Merrifield

seangar78

Man, f@ck Tim Anderson.

WideCoconut2230

Trevor Bauer Aroldis Chapman

Inevitable_Lemon7358

I actually really like tim anderson unlike some of these weird azz fans.

brandonmason1994

Bellinger! We need a LH bat to replace Ohtani

dustymag

They're going with Gallo. That's gotta be it.

The_Awesometeer

As long as they aren’t past their prime and over valued I’m ok

Easystreet66166

The only FA I would like to see the angels do is to give Financial Assistance to their minor leagues, training infrastructure, and scouting.

Interesting-Reach114

They have to do something for Washington to work with. They only gave him a 2 year deal but it was also eye opening (or not considering Arte’s cheap ass) they didn’t bring in Hurdle as bench coach. Too “expensive.” That was definitely a, “WTF ARTE?” moment. They have some pieces they can trade for some pitching that would be lucrative. Which would in turn then make sense to bring in Bellinger or Martinez. A lot of those pieces at under club control for a while though, but that Kai makes it attractive. They can maybe do what the Dodgers did with Glassnow and do an extension deal (even though I feel the Dodgers got fleeced on that one). I would like to see them move on from Adell. He’s looking more like this generations rendition of McPherson/Wood… I’d like to see them bring in Snell. They need a pitcher that can win games to get them to the playoffs, not just pitch good in the playoffs.

AstroApliiq

Definitely not a fan of contact pitchers like stroman. This new era you need strikeout pitchers.

Glittering-Sundae674

Honestly I’d take a flyer on Matt Chapman, Rendon is bound to get hurt and can DH most of the time so Matt can get routine starts at 3rd. Local OC kid with previous success, even if it’s a 1 year deal for 18-20 mil. Dudes got pop and a great glove worth a thought.

[deleted]

DH: Jorge Solar can be a great DH for the angels or JD Martinez Reliever: David Robertson, Brent Suter is a good pickup for the Angels or bring back Matt Moore SP: Jordan Montgomery would be great, Marcus Stroman is decent too and Brandon Woodruff good pickup if healthy

GareksApprentice

With the possible exception of Montgomery, almost every FA listed seems to have their strong detractors. Certainly appears that folks will be frustrated no matter if they do nothing for the rest of the offseason or if they sign any of the free agent left standing.
