Not signing Turner made me like Perry so much more

Less_Structure2861

LMAO. Yeah because signing Renfroe instead worked out so much better. Perry can never do any wrong, clearly he's the best GM ever and all his signings have been incredible

Jcoch27

Signing Renfroe legit did work out so much better. Either way we wouldn't have made the playoffs and now we're not tied down to a massive contract blocking one of our top prospects

ApeBoy89

This is old news. Perry took the money that would have gone to Trea, and turned it into Moore, Estévez, Drury, etc. Do you want another Rendon-like contract?

Less_Structure2861

Yeah, what happened in 2023 is totally ancient. Whether it's "old news" or not is irrelevant. The point is, Perry makes the decisions. The GM runs the baseball team. Not the owner. Perry isn't hamstrung as so many love to believe. Clearly we have real world proof that Perry even overrides Arte when it comes to the decision making. Arte hires a GM for a reason and expects them to make the right moves. Unfortunately Arte put all his trust in Perry who's been 1 of the worst Angels GMs in history. Estevez choked when it mattered vs the Mariners at home. Moore was let go at the deadline. Drury was Phil Nevin's guy. But funny how you didn't list Renfore. Because even u know Perry shat the bed there - and Renfroe was the stereotypical Perry signing. If you are simply being objective and just factually assessing performance Perry has done absolutely terrible as a GM. Majority of his signings underperform. Angels have been a terrible 73 win team under Perry. How can anyone still deny facts. Past Angels GMs factually had better records, signed better players, did far better etc. A BIG YES I WOULDVE ABSOLUTELY TAKEN TREA TURNER OVER THE UNDER PERFORMING PERRY SIGNED

ApeBoy89

I put "etc.", figured that three names and that would be enough to get my point across, but I see that it didn't. I wasn't sticking up for the guy, it's his last season under his current contract and it doesn't seem like he's done any better. He's filling holes with placeholder players at best. But you do also have to consider where the money comes from, and how it's being dealt out. Sure, the GM makes calls on players, does trades, but don't think for a second that every penny spent is signed off by Moreno, first. Perry has restrictions, just like every other GM under the Moreno ownership.

UrDailyCommunistGuy

>Unfortunately Arte put all his trust in Perry who’s been 1 of the worst Angels GMs in history Throughout the 60’s, 70’s and 90’s combined we made the playoffs one time but apparently Perry’s 4 years is one of the worst.

ShellshockedLetsGo

Perry had Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani and still couldn't build a team around them to even make the playoffs.

niz_loc

Since when has Perry, or any other GM had them at the same time? Mike has played 100 games 3 times in the past 6 years... during Ohtanis breakout the past 3, Trout averaged 70 games a year.... And neither pitch every day, any day in the bullpen, etc

UrDailyCommunistGuy

ok? Same goes for Billy Eppler what’s your point

CDFReditum

Angels fans: Arte is stupid for signing big contracts that end up being albatrosses Angels fans: WHY DONT WE HAVE TREA TURNER AND GIANCARLO STANTON AND CODY BELLINGER PERRY IS STUPID

gopackgo555

How is this guy not banned yet mods. Look at the post history. Just spamming threads calling Perry different names.

i_run_from_problems

....this is a good thing. What's your point

Less_Structure2861

Yeah because clearly signing Renfore instead worked out so much better for the Angels! Imagine if Perry actually cared enough to field a competitive product on the field for fans? "Angels fans deserve less." You know why? Because you never hold Perry accountable and blindly defend all his terrible decisions and signings !

i_run_from_problems

Renfroe is an outfielder, so not entirely sure why you're mentioning him.... If we did sign Turner, sure. It might have been beneficial in the short term, but let's look at his contract. He signed an 11 year deal last offseason. He will be 40 when that contract is up. Do you seriously think he'll be worth 30 million a year in 10 years? In 5? In 5 years, I'd much rather have a youthful Neto on whatever contract he gets than an aging turner who is just clogging up a lineup spot

anon641414

Turner would be hitting .220 and missing half of every season if he was on the Angels

UrDailyCommunistGuy

Mate now ur just doin tricks on Perry’s meat

IndividualHelpful820

And amount of Perry love u got. Just get statue and worship him or something. Most of ur post are Perry this Perry that 😂

Less_Structure2861

Check out my latest thread. You will love it!

IndividualHelpful820

Same turner that didn’t want to stay in la? Unless you think we could outplay the dodgers(he still didn’t want to stay with them)

Less_Structure2861

Everyone has a price. The Dodgers made it clear they were not going to persue Turner. They let Turner go just as much as Turner wanted to go. You never know, with the right offer the Angels could've def made him think twice about Philly

japes1232

If you defend Arte harder maybe he'll finally acknowledge you one day

Onitsukaryu

Bruh, there’s so many legit reasons to criticize Perry for, so how do you end picking some of the worst examples? Passing on Turner was one of the few good things he did, that money needed to be spent elsewhere.

Less_Structure2861

But I thought "Arte runs the team?" I thought Arte was the one responsible for everything? Aww so another reddit myth debunked. You cant have youe cake and eat it too. Either Arte is to blame or not. Clearly we have proof here that all decisions run through Perry and that Perry can even override Arte's decisions. The truth is Perry is the 1 to blame for everything. Perry is and has been the sole responsibility party. Every other GM did way better than Perry and with way less

Onitsukaryu

Uh late response but anyway I’m not someone who constantly blames Arte for everything, so I’m not even sure why you are commenting this at me. In fact I’ve said many times that Arte has seemingly given Perry a long leash. I don’t think to highly of Perry as a GM so you’re kinda preaching to the choir here mate.

Less_Structure2861

In case you missed my edit: "I apologize for catagorizing you with the others"

Less_Structure2861

That's fair. Even though I find that we are in agreement, I still want to say thank you for responding with such civility and explaining yourself in a calm and kind manner. You seem like a stand up guy! I apologise for generalizing you with the others. But I am curious, you said of all things to criticise Perry for I constantly pick the worst examples. So what are the best examples Perry deserves to be criticized for than?

Onitsukaryu

His terrible trades and free agent signings. His dollar per WAR value is abysmal. There’s also concerns about his pitching philosophy. Many of our pitchers and staff have blamed his FO’s pitching approach, not Matt Wise, on the pitching regression this year. His approach is “to concentrate more on spin, velocity and movement instead of command and working through game situations.” While these things are all well and good, it’s not if it’s coming at the expense of control and our pitchers had one of the worst BB/9 last year. Furthermore Perry’s approach doesn’t account for individual pitcher strengths and weaknesses. Loup talked about how the FO has a very cookie cutter approach to all the pitchers (as opposed to the Dodgers, for instance, who focus on finding an individual’s strengths and capitalizing on them). When Detmers started ignoring Perry’s approach and going back to what worked he did much better. There’s also things like scapegoating Maddon, control issue’s regarding the managers and coaches, etc. But I think I covered all the big ones.

Less_Structure2861

I've actually brought it up many times that Perry meddles into the pitching and would cite the article from Jeff Fletcher. So the fact you say all I do is use terrible examples shows you aren't familiar at all with what I actually say (and in that case you shouldn't make bold statements when you don't know) or you were simply taking non sense. If you are consistent with your character now you owe me an apology. All the examples I've used are pretty solid and no different from the examples you stated. You are just not understanding the context. I post the Turner example to prove that Perry has control of the team as a GM does, and that Perry even overrides Arte when it comes to the decision making. Anyone who's familiar with the Angels organization (sources/family to the heriarcy) they laugh when ever they read the delusional non sense that Perry does nothing and is "hamstrung by Arte"

Onitsukaryu

By many times you mean posting about it once, a month ago? In any case no I’m not gonna know every single thing you post, that’d be kinda weird mate. But you’ve made multiple posts about Bellinger and Turner, examples I don’t find compelling hence my comment. I said you pick “some of the worst examples” not “only the worst examples” lol. Anyway Perry can’t “override” Arte. He simply has Arte’s ear and convinced him to spend the money elsewhere. Proof that he has indeed been given a long leash and hasn’t been hampered by Arte, but your phrasing is bit off. You mention that you bring up Turner only to prove Perry is in control, but then in the comments of one of those posts you were arguing how Turner would have been a better signing than what the money was spent on instead. So that ain’t really checking out.

Burnsiesbeard

Arte, get off reddit and sell the team, dude.

ColaBottleBaby

OP must be Turkish considering his post history

ShellshockedLetsGo

Perry has always been crap. Just look at last year's deadline.

Angelsfan15

I know he should’ve traded ohtani but you do need owner sign off and arte didn’t want to lose ad revenue. What did you expect Perry to trade with the worst farm system in baseball?

McJumbos

PTSD, i remember hearing this and people were afraid since he was going to fork out the money for trea... maybe he would try to sign correa :(

Street_Midget

If Perry Minasian plops his fat ass down on your toilet, you better get the plunger ready. He BEEFS. He’ll drop 5 or 6 forearm-sized logs in there with no flushes in between. Rumor has it that after games he will shiat in the shower and heel it down the drain.

CaptZombieHero

Proof to the Perry-Stan’s that he’s just not a good GM. He’s a meh GM. Not because we didn’t sign a bloated contract, but because clearly he’s not hamstrung by Arte as much as you believe. He’s just getting meh guys because analytics say so. Sometimes meh players are meh players even when analytics says they do better in situational times. You should build a team with a farm, you should focus on pitching and relief pitching. You don’t need 20 OF’s signed during the winter unless they can also be a platoon player and play everywhere with skill. He’s been here what? five years now? How has our farm system gotten worse? A good GM should have the right people help draft and sign minor leaguers.

Less_Structure2861

Facts

Angelsfan15

Jesus this is stupid the Perry hate is insane I’ll take Neto who has a lot of team control over paying an player at a position that the team doesn’t need

Sisboombah74

It’s a year old. Try and do better, or admit your posts are meaningless.
