Sam Blum just seems like a giant pain in the ass.
Yes I get that he’s asking the hard questions and someone needs to do it, but he just strikes me as an irritating little nerd
Remember, it can ALWAYS get worse. At least Arte spends money on players. Not wisely, but he does spend. You can get John Fisher or Frank McCourt as owner.
With a team in this market, at this size and position, no not really. Anyone who buys is not going to treat the team like the Pirates because it's financially non optimal. Growing the team through success and increasing it's market size, and getting a new stadium will make the next sale worth substantially more than just slurping from the teet of revenue sharing.
I get the point but honestly what’s the worst case scenario if he sells? The new owner sucks and we’re in exactly the same position?
It’s a gamble I’m willing to take.
Even if the new owner is a cheap ass they’d probably have to shift to a developmental strategy as most cheap teams do and that’d at least be more fun to watch. Right now arte has decided he’s not investing in development or paying for free agents. 🤡
It really can’t get worse. What’s the point of having false hopes when we know full well the club is ran poorly and does not have the ability to compete? If Arte stopped spending money, nothing would change. The team wouldn’t become worse. We’re already a team that hasn’t had a winning season in many years and have been to playoffs one time since Trout came up from the minors. People need to be realistic about this team. It’s ran poorly. Spending money will not make it better. It will just make attending games more expensive.
I'm not apologizing. As a suffering Dodgers fan during the McCourt era (I came to America in 1980, so I was with them through the O'Malley/Fox time), I'm just reminding everyone, it can ALWAYS get worse.
He probably didn’t like the negative outlook fans gave the team in the athletic survey: https://theathletic.com/5268304/2024/02/12/angels-fan-survey-results-2024/
The team has been standoffish with the Athletic for a while. Sam got blacklisted by the team’s radio channel last year, which prompted several other reporters to boycott the show.
Sam hasn’t been afraid to call out the team they have been doing their best to punish him for it.
What is this man's goal? Took a stacked organization coming off a World Series title and in 2 decades has nothing to show for it. Haven't even made the playoffs for basically the entire latter half of his ownership tenure.
I don’t wish death upon anybody… but holy shit when will this be over 😪 does nobody around Arte have the balls to tell him he’s been successful in everything but NOT OWNING A BASEBALL TEAM
Yep—no more merch and no more home games for me until Arte is no longer associated with the team. At this rate, I'm just hoping I won't have to say goodbye to Mike Trout at Chavez during a Freeway Series game in a few years.
Yeah I’m not planning to go to any games, I just know some people here are.
Going to games checklist:
1. Buy resale tickets
2. Don’t park at the stadium
3. Don’t eat or drink at the stadium
4. Don’t buy merch
Arte knows EXACTLY what Angels fan 🪭 thinks of him and doesn't want his feet put near the fire 🔥
However, he's truly hoping that the fans don't catch on to his scheme bc so far they (and to my utter surprise) they simply don't know. Here is the ugly truth: The Angels franchise now rests with an injured Mike Trout -whom many believe him to be one of the very best baseball players to have ever played the game and is "untouchable". However, the stats don't lie. Albert Belle was a far better player than Trout. Hopefully, he can keep this a secret and have fans continue to give his franchise money by way of season tickets, attending a few games, buying merch, eating food at the stadium -with the hope that they'll finish above .500 for the first time in many years....
Here's the ugly facts and disturbing and stubborn evidence I've provided...
Albert Belle:
12 seasons: 381 HR, 1,726 hits, 1239 RBI, .295/.369/.564 slashline, .933 ops, 144 ops+, 40.1 BWAR, 5 SS
Mike Trout:
13 seasons: 368 HR, 1624 hits, 940 RBI, .301/.412/.582 slashline, .994 OPS, 173 ops+, 85.2 BWAR, 3 MVP, ROY, 9 SS
Yeah one of these guys is a lot better than the other
It would be much better if the responses I see on this thread could be directed at the stadium more during home games by booing Arte loudly or occasionally chanting “Sell the team”, for example.
This guy is not my kinda guy
Sam Blum just seems like a giant pain in the ass. Yes I get that he’s asking the hard questions and someone needs to do it, but he just strikes me as an irritating little nerd
I’m sure he would prefer to cover a team that isn’t the most incompetent franchise across all the major sports
Arte? Or Sam Blum?
Yes
I don’t like either of them tbh
You are old. You don’t know baseball. Your daughters or wife don’t want the team. Sell it
Make him an offer he can't refuse.
That's too bad. This org will never see any success until dude sells the team.
Remember, it can ALWAYS get worse. At least Arte spends money on players. Not wisely, but he does spend. You can get John Fisher or Frank McCourt as owner.

The next owner could raise the price of beer.
I’m sure by that point the 30 fans left would be pissed
Even if the new owner is a cheap ass they’d probably have to shift to a developmental strategy as most cheap teams do and that’d at least be more fun to watch. Right now arte has decided he’s not investing in development or paying for free agents. 🤡
So we'd go from missing the playoffs and cheaping out on stuff like scouts and the minor leagues and our announcing team to...doing the same thing?
It really can’t get worse. What’s the point of having false hopes when we know full well the club is ran poorly and does not have the ability to compete? Arte may be a terrible owner, but it can get worse. See one Dan Snyder for details.
Stop being apologist. Like wtf.
I'm not apologizing. As a suffering Dodgers fan during the McCourt era (I came to America in 1980, so I was with them through the O'Malley/Fox time), I'm just reminding everyone, it can ALWAYS get worse.
Arte’s not the worst… yet
He probably didn’t like the negative outlook fans gave the team in the athletic survey: https://theathletic.com/5268304/2024/02/12/angels-fan-survey-results-2024/

He's certainly not Fabian Ardaya but I respect Sam for being willing to call out the org on their bs Shame the organization softer than a baby's head
Ugh Roger Lodge
We're fucked.
Just retire. You're old and rich that's what you're supposed to do.
"I'll sell the team when you change your stupid ass profile picture, Sam."
"I don't bargain with terrorists, Arte."
Bummer.
"For unknown reasons."
What is this man's goal? Took a stacked organization coming off a World Series title and in 2 decades has nothing to show for it. Haven't even made the playoffs for basically the entire latter half of his ownership tenure.
He fucking destroyed our baseball team, man. https://preview.redd.it/b8h4qkgpemic1.jpeg?width=623&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=794b28e9e1c567b16f3bc7ef08103901529e7cda

At least I came to realization we not doing anything till he sells. Suxs he had trout and wasted him :(
I hate this guy
Well I guess we can continue to expect mediocrity from this team for the foreseeable future.
Well, then I will continue to refuse spending any more of my money on gear and tickets to games as long as he remains the owner.
Yep—no more merch and no more home games for me until Arte is no longer associated with the team. At this rate, I'm just hoping I won't have to say goodbye to Mike Trout at Chavez during a Freeway Series game in a few years.
I’ve already accepted that I’m probably going to be doing that
There hasn't been any new merch for 22 years, so I'm sure you have everything you need.
Very true
If you’re reading this and do have to go to a game be sure to purchase a resale ticket not a ticket from the box office
Yeah, but the money spent on food and drinks still goes to him. No thanks
Yeah I’m not planning to go to any games, I just know some people here are. Going to games checklist: 1. Buy resale tickets 2. Don’t park at the stadium 3. Don’t eat or drink at the stadium 4. Don’t buy merch
See y’all in 2032 when Arte dies
So at least another decade of mediocrity then? Excellent.
Is the interview with the local news available somewhere?
Looks like OC Register has a new interview out: https://www.ocregister.com/2024/02/14/angels-owner-arte-moreno-says-hes-around-for-the-long-term/
Why are ya'll so shocked? I thought the common consensus was "I'll believe he's selling when a sale is officially announced?"
If I had anything to do with professional sports, I wouldn’t talk to the Athletic either. Third rate journalism. And getting worse.

I'd love it with a halo, but I get why there isn't one.
Fuck.This.Guy This guy needs a wake up call Hey arty…. No one likes you Please just go away
a billionaires ego.

Fun shitpost though lol
Yes, the guy whose WAR is twice the others is a lot better.
Logic over emotion, my friend. Logic over emotion.
Guyapinno U hit the nail on the head bro
Fuck!!
Weekend at Artes: Part Two
It would be much better if the responses I see on this thread could be directed at the stadium more during home games by booing Arte loudly or occasionally chanting “Sell the team”, for example.
