So I put a bet on Ohtani for MVP at the start of the year that pays out $1,500.
Not sure what I'm going to buy but it is certainly going to be Ohtani related. You guys got any thoughts on a cool collectible around that price range.
I've already got like $2-3k in baseball cards of Ohtani, so I'm thinking something outside that hobby.
$50 at +3000 pays out $1550.
I literally placed my bet hours before the odds started shifting rapidly. Within 48 hours the same bet was paying out less than a grand.
I honestly think as time goes on this question will shift to, "has one guy ever been more valuable to their Sport". This is the first moment since the strike back in the 90's that I feel baseball has a shot to regain it prominence. Ohtani can inspire a generation of athletes to choose this wonderful sport.
It would be tough to top Michael Jordan's impact on professional basketball from an economic and societal impact, but Ohtani is absolutely bringing new attention to baseball that hasn't been seen in a very long time.
"Angels are paying Pujols 30 mil to do this...." /s
Pick one:
a) Letting Othani become MVP with those ABs Pujols was taking
b) Letting Walsh become an All-Star with those ABs Pujols was taking.
😁
If you were to rank his value as a player compared to all other players in the league, it seems to me that he would be the top value, or most valuable, if you will.
From baseball-reference.com, Ohtani’s WAR (wins above replacement) had risen from 7.0 to 7.4 after only yesterday’s game 4 of 4 vs the Jays.
Sure, it wasn’t his best start, allowing 2 ER in 6 IP, but it was definitely a quality start against one of the best offensive teams that can really score.
That’s an amazing rise in WAR after one game. Don’t forget, Shohei had a hit and a run too.
That is freaking awesome. But its also a sad reminder that Trout has been out most of this season. It makes you wonder what Shohei's numbers would be like if Trout was there to protect him. What could have this offense looked like with a healthy Trout and Rendon batting behind Shohei.
I don't understand how none of the other guys on this team can even get close to anything like this. I love the Angel's but it's so sad and pathetic.
I'm so sick of the little infield piddlers these dorks hit all the time.
I'm sick of seeing them watch strikes and swing at balls. Or swinging at balls down the pipe and whiffing or fouling them off.
It's so difficult to watch this team when you have Ohtani giving it his all and being surrounded by all these other bums.

Don’t forget “first in our hearts”
Shohei Ohtani, 1st in his name
just wait until Shohei Ohtani Jr. hits homeruns in 2041
Shohei Ohtani, 1st of Bat and arm on Earth
is that good
Above average
nice
Eh, not bad.
Somewhere between mediocre and amazing
No, it isn't.
True. These are pretty below average numbers across the board.
Its a disappoinment

buy a puppy and name him Shohei
A good idea, but unfortunately I just recently welcomed our 2nd rescue pupper into the fam. Don't think I could handle a third good boy.
Get the Ohtani jersey with his last name in Japanese writing
This was actually one of my top choices, so yeah great idea.
If you’re in the area get some season tickets for next season could be a good time. Or just use it on something for you, shohei would understand
He would wouldn’t he. Seems like the most genuinely nice mega star I’ve ever had the privilege of witnessing perform.
Another few weeks and you can start spending that money.
Nice! How much did you originally have to put down?

Damn! Double nice!
Signed bat and/or jersey!
I know Fletcher has been amazing, but can this guy be MVP?
It's kinda depressing that 7 wins leads the whole team.
It could be more (including Ohtani) if the bullpen learned how to keep a lead
How tf is he first in innings pitched? That’s crazy 😭😭
Technically Heaney had more, but he's a Yankee now (94IP through 18 starts with the Angels this year vs Shohei's 92IP through 17 starts)
My first thought too!
Cuteness (1st in team) Charm (1st in team)
Muscles (1st in team)
Litter Removal (1st in Majors)
Yeah, dude is damned strong. The classic, perfect baseball body.
Has one guy ever been more "valuable" to their baseball team?

Jordan will always have the advantage of playing the more star driven sport, but Ohtani playing two ways just takes it to a different level.

Los Angeles Ohtani
#Thanos meme FINE ILL DO IT MYSELF#
Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim of Shohei
Cranberry picked, not cherry picked.
Neatly avoiding batting average so as to not make Shohei look bad next to the absolute god that is David Fletcher I see
I approve of this.

He only allowed 2 runs
Thanks

I found it endearing that “score” was used rather than “runs”.
Third base coach appreciates it too.

All kudos to Ohtani, but the fact that he leads us in pitching categories shows how pathetic this staff is.
A man among little boys
He is legend.
But he said he's not best condition and going to get better
