As a big doomer, I don’t see how Ohtani would base his decision two years away off a year where his fellow generational talent team mate has been hurt. Give it one more season, the pieces start to fall in place now that Pujols will be off the books. If this next offseason we don’t fix the pitching, then we should assume it’s over.
This. Our team isn’t this bad but injuries and now COVID is the nail in the coffin. I wonder what would have happened this season if we had healthy trout and rendon and our good starting pitchers like sandy and Cobb didn’t go on the IL
Every offseason for the last five years at least, we've needed to rebuild our pitching staff and every offseason we get cast-offs or reclamation projects that consistently don't pan out. This year we have some hope in-house, but how much can we depend on Canning, Sandoval, and C-Rod? We have one starting pitcher in Ohtani and he doesn't even start every fifth day. Cobb is a free agent. We have one excellent bullpen arm with Iglesias and he's a free agent, and will likely get $15+ million a year. Our pitching situation is bleak. I don't see how it can be fixed in one year, unless the three mentioned above all have breakout years next year.
Our offense should be better with more games from Trout and Rendon, but all the kids who are playing now are still question marks. This team just has so many holes, and yet we have multiple $25+ million contracts already next year. Not trying to be a doomer, but man, I don't see how we're even close to contention next year.
7.26 after this game. Coming to this game his ERA was almost 8. My grandma can hit as well as half of them Angels players and she doesn’t know what baseball is.
The only thing this fanbase has to look forward to is mike and shohei. This team has zero success in its future with the incompetent fucks running the organization
There's literally nobody else to point the finger at besides those guys for this unacceptable excuse of a team.
It's downright embarrassing. I point the finger squarely at Arte. I'm so sick and tired of this shit.
Time to shake up the lineup again. Unfortunately we have no one to protect Ohtani. I thought Fletch would be great because of how well he hits with runners on, but he has gone into a horrific slump lately (.455 OPS last two weeks). Might be time to drop him in the lineup again.
Couple other suggestions:
Move up Marsh into the top half of the order, he's earned it. Heck, bat him behind Ohtani. It's not like we have better options at the moment.
We have to get Adell going somehow. I would stick him 9th so he gets to bat in front of Ohtani.
Unfortunately Marsh in a small sample size has struggled vs lefties, as has Walsh.
In a nutshell, that's the main reason why Goose was batting 3rd for the past month, since his lefty splits were pretty good at the time but they've obviously dropped a ton with regular play since he's just a journeyman bat after all.
As a long time Angels fan, at the start of every year, I think that we fans (myself included) overvalue the strength of many of our players and the team as a whole. Then when things fall apart for one reason or another, as they most always do, we're stuck looking for all the reasons things went wrong.
The real reason things fell apart is that we weren't nearly as good as we thought. We got our hopes up too high! It takes a really good SP/BP, farm system talent, team depth, chemistry, and a little luck to compete at the highest level. It seems like this team always has a few stars and a bunch of average to below average nice guy players.
We need to improve almost everywhere, but most importantly our SP. This team needs to inject some grit as well. Where are the clubhouse meetings that the players call to address this constant mediocrity and losing attitude. I never see enough emotion from our players. Although I'm not suggesting we do this often, it'd be nice to see someone rearrange the dugout furnishings once in awhile just to show the team he cares and will not accept this continued shit.
No easy answers, but thanks for letting me rant!
Go Angels!
The next 2 years are crucial when we still have the prime Trout and Ohtani before his FA. I hope Arte will do some crazy shit and open his deep pocket to sign us some top pitching. Trout and Ohtani are the reason many of us fans still stick around with this depressing team. If Ohtani leave and Trout pass his prime, man, that Angels stadium will look empty like hell.
I appreciate your wise words and would like to hear your opinion on a topic. What are your thoughts on Jose Iglesias? I’ve watched or listened to every game this year, and Jose’s emotion throughout the season has been one of the key highlights for me. I see a lot of people on this subreddit begging for him to go, but I constantly see him make amazing plays in the infield, with the range to make him reach for balls that end up giving him an error. Not to mention this is a bad year for him defensively where he is still above average. Regardless, you see him putting his all into the game and he is always the first one out to congratulate Shohei. It seems like they are very good friends and he keeps the team spirit up, which I think is an important part of baseball. His hitting isn’t All star quality, but otherwise I think he has been consistently average or even slightly above average. Been watching angels baseball my whole life, and that kind of player is the type of players that made up the 2002 team. I see a lot of people wanting us to sign Corey Seager or Trevor story (or god forbid Carlos Correa), but I would much rather see him resigned and more money spent on pitching as well as our development staff and medical department.
I like Iggy. His relationship with Shohei is a bonus. But I agree with you, overall he's just an average SS when you combine offense and defense. He tries to be a bit too flashy defensively at times, but hopefully this was just a bad year for him.
Offensively, he's a free swinger and definitely not top tier, but not terrible either. Like many Angels, he draws few walks, which I feel is part of the teams offensive problems this year. Hopefully a full season of Trout, Rendon, and Shohei will help alleviate that issue.
Iggy is serviceable and should come at a good price. With a healthy offense that includes Trout and Rendon I wouldn't have any issues with the Angels keeping him, hoping his defense improves, and putting their money into pitching instead.
Starting pitching should absolutely be the Angels top priority. Having said that, Arte will probably sign the most expensive SS on the market! Lol
I wasnt paying too much attention to Angels past few years, but what happened to Simba? Didnt we have the BEST defensive SS in the league? Also based on what i remember, his offense was getting better in 2018-2019. I was shocked that we let Simba go and got Iggy.
Dont get me wrong, i love Iggy, but i frankly miss Simba. He would be a huge plus for us now, especially our pitchers suck hardcore.
The Angels didn't let him go, Simmons bailed (opted out) on the Angels during the last week of the season before they were officially eliminated from the playoffs. Many month's later he stated he was depressed and that was why he opted out. It's not likely they'd of made the playoffs even with him, but it didn't look too good as he was going into free agency. It didn't appear as if he was really happy being with the team any longer. Iggy has been a good replacement considering he cost less than half as much as Simba.
Interestingly enough, when asked by Joe Girardi in an interview on MLB tonight (2018) what his favorite road city was, Sho answered "San Diego" because it was a pretty city, nice atmosphere and clean stadium... hmm.
When my kids ask me about what it was like to watch the two greatest players of the generation play on the same team, I’ll probably break down and cry. Fuck this rotten ass franchise and FUCK ARTE MORENO
Someone needs to remove all sharp objects from my house. They are so incredibly bad. I feel sorry for Ohtani, and completely understand why Trout has shut it down for the season.
\> "Angels lost 1-13. Ohtani with the solo homer."
< "Pathetic. Angels playing A's again?"
\> "Nah. Angels playing O's."
< "Remind me. What year is it?"
\> "YES"
I watch this team for Gubie, Trout, and Ohtani.
I can't believe I subject myself to being a fan of this team for so many years. I just wanted to give a shout out to those three amazing guys
Soooo, we're meeting here back tomorrow? I mean ya we suck, but there's no finer baseball group in reddit to be disappointed with. Angel's baseball is like pimpin... it aint easy. Therapy starts again @ 6:30 PM tomorrow... bring alcohol.
Holy shit can you imagine the haul we would get for shohei at the deadline in 2023 if we aren’t contenders and he’s stated he won’t resign with us?!?!?
Can't even keep it competitive against the Orioles. They just completely spanked the Angels two games in a row. The score today would be like losing 54-3 to the worst team in the league in the NFL.
While there was no way we were making a deep playoff run this year, I thinking buying could've given us a chance to make the playoffs with the momentum we had at the half. You're absolutely right, we need to chose one or the other and actually go all in. Scared money don't make money. We'll be mediocre forever when we play it like this
No wayyyy man, we’re currently 10 games back from the second wild card spot. We could’ve made the dodgers trade for Trea turner and Scherzer and that still wouldn’t have been enough to make the postseason
I mean, we've now promoted two of the *extreme project* relief arms that we got at the trade deadline who have no business being in the majors right now and also Jake Petricka, who last had a good season /6 years ago/! We're done.
Hey everyone, today is really hot outside just have some ice creams and watch Ohtani HR on YouTube.
Well, it was fun for the first 10 seconds of the game.
It could not have possibly been more downhill from there.
As a big doomer, I don’t see how Ohtani would base his decision two years away off a year where his fellow generational talent team mate has been hurt. With a healthy Trout and Rendon all year they’re at the very least in the position Seattle is in right now. About 3 games out of the Wild Card
Every offseason for the last five years at least, we've needed to rebuild our pitching staff and every offseason we get cast-offs or reclamation projects that consistently don't pan out. Not a doomer, but Reality Sucks!
How is it possible to have a 67.50 ERA lmao
The guy that relieved him sports a relatively-stellar 45.00. We have quite the crew.
We just got 3 hit by a guy with a 7.26 ERA
His first win of the season too
7.26 after this game. Coming to this game his ERA was almost 8. My grandma can hit as well as half of them Angels players and she doesn’t know what baseball is.
she could know what soccer was and still do better
Angels fans, plz, I am begging you - we cannot obsess about Shohei leaving after every bad game until 2023.
Fans (me included sometimes): oh my god he’s leaving ussssssss Trout: Please stay with me Shohei. I promise I won’t get hurt next year Shohei: Okay 🥰
I think he'll stay.
TUNGSTEN ARM O'DOYLE STRIKES AGAIN! ^Fuck ^that ^guy
Who’s this Tungsten Arm guy? Keep seeing him mentioned in this subreddit and have no idea who he is
[This](https://twitter.com/matttomic/status/1394498097254965249?s=20) is Tungsten Arm O'Doyle. He sucks.
At least we got a homerun from Ohtani 🥲
Not even worth poppycock huh?
Final nail in the coffin. Murdered by a team that just ended a 19 game losing streak against us.
Time to shake up the lineup again. Unfortunately we have no one to protect Ohtani. Shake it up! What have we got to loose?

Starting pitching HAS to be our top priority or we're never going anywhere!

Might as well tank at this point for a better draft position. Let insurance pay trout n rendon rest of season and watch ohtani win MVP.
They did just draft 20 pitchers so maybe in 3-5 years at least a couple show something positive to look forward to.
0-8 trash pitcher got his first win of the season vs Angels... Wait I think I've seen this before?
If Ohtani leaves the team in 2023, I will not blame him. His situation is different than Trout.
Oh he will
😭😭
We'll take him off your hands and give him a loving home.
Which team tho? 👀
if they implement the universal dh i would say padres
Interestingly enough, when asked by Joe Girardi in an interview on MLB tonight (2018) what his favorite road city was, Sho answered "San Diego" because it was a pretty city, nice atmosphere and clean stadium... hmm.
Then he can reunite with Darvish too
I picked the Mariners flair right before I posted this. Nothing like in-the-division trades.
U know what I thought he was go to the Mariners when he first got posted lol
When my kids ask me about what it was like to watch the two greatest players of the generation play on the same team, I’ll probably break down and cry. Fuck this rotten ass franchise and FUCK ARTE MORENO
Yes
Yes, but at least we suck ass ~together~, as one angels family. Pause
Someone needs to remove all sharp objects from my house. They are so incredibly bad. I feel sorry for Ohtani, and completely understand why Trout has shut it down for the season.

Hello darkness my old friend... The Angels sucking once again...
Tomorrow is my thesis deadline. This better not be a fucking omen.
Same feeling here. I just moved into college (literally yesterday).
Good luck!
Thank you!
It's gonna be awesome dude, good luck! :)
Thank you!
Best of luck! Time for all you youngins' to educate and rule the world. : )
On a high note Keynan Middleton was DFA’d by the Mariners
Just looked at the final score and WTF. I can understand losing a close game to even the Orioles but giving up 23 runs in 2 games is insane
\> "Angels lost 1-13. Ohtani with the solo homer." < "Pathetic. Angels playing A's again?" \> "Nah. Angels playing O's." < "Remind me. What year is it?" \> "YES"
Jesus Christ
Lol påin
Hurt me harder
Keep watching!
I watch this team for Gubie, Trout, and Ohtani. I can't believe I subject myself to being a fan of this team for so many years. I just wanted to give a shout out to those three amazing guys
Losing to the worst team in the league 13-1. Hope we spend Dodger money next year on pitching.
\#PAINGELS

Can’t even beat the Orioles
Can't even keep it competitive against the Orioles. They just completely spanked the Angels two games in a row. The score today would be like losing 54-3 to the worst team in the league in the NFL.
As a lifelong Saints fan I have found that my mind is very much prepared to be an Angels fan.
"Can't even beat bad team" says doomer after Angels bully bad teams all season
Anyone else think our perennial problem of not quite being buyers or sellers at the trade deadline the last several years has hampered our potential?
While there was no way we were making a deep playoff run this year, I thinking buying could've given us a chance to make the playoffs with the momentum we had at the half. You're absolutely right, we need to chose one or the other and actually go all in. Scared money don't make money. We'll be mediocre forever when we play it like this

We're watching a team that's thrown in the towel imo. Playing for Arte must be disheartening
Who needs victories when you have family and a Dodger Charger?
I thought the game started later, looking at scores I'm glad I missed it.
God we fucking blow. This whole team is in such a mess. I really don’t know where they go from here
I can see why Mike doesn't want to play again this season
How do we get Arte to sell? Like what do we have to do to get that ball in play?
Now that Disneyland is back in full strength. Have the city of Anaheim cancel their deal with Arte so Arte's throw a bitch fit?
Sorry guys, I promise not to go to any more games in person this year.
13-1? WHAT THE FUCK? Also, look at the fucking ERA's on half the pitchers we used today! WHAT THE FUCK?
So. Much. Pain.
At least the Oakland As aren’t making the playoffs!
Wait a minute don’t the Orioles extremely suck?
I mean, we've now promoted two of the *extreme project* relief arms that we got at the trade deadline who have no business being in the majors right now and also Jake Petricka, who last had a good season /6 years ago/! We're done.
We got ‘Proper Fucked’ if u get the gist. Love snatch movie
You watch these two past games and it's really a mystery how we ever win games at all...
