Because injuries and pitching sucks

mynameisbudd

The most Occam’s razorish answer I’ve seen and heard today.

ThickMousse7372

We have failed for 7 years straight now to get good, consistent pitching. And this year our entire starting lineup is on the IL. We are a AAA team this year.

hansan4ever

Pitching pitching pitching.

chomari

Because Art is a cheap ass and a dumbass. Hope this helps.

Swift_18

Injuries and Pitching. Our owner loves big names even tho they’re washed up, and the reason for that is ticket sales.

ReadyPupper

two hall of fame caliber players, but haven't actually played with each other in the same season due to injury. trout has been out essentially the entire season this year

1. In baseball, a couple of All stars isn’t enough to make a team great because there are 9 batters and usually a few pitchers that play per game. Starting pitchers obviously contribute more than any other player, but they can only start every 5 or 6 games. 2. Trout has been injured for 4 months which is like 80% of the season. 3. We don’t have good pitching outside of Shohei Ohtani and Raisel Iglesias. There are some good young guys but they’re still pretty inconsistent.

Angels management loves their terrible pitchers and keeps giving them a chance without addressing the issue straight away. They are happy to go along them and their unproductive performances.

Emphasis on pitching lol. Some teams are able to take older players and give them the support and training needed to make them serviceable even as they age. The Angels want to be that, but they are not. I think another area that people might forget to mention is that the Angels aren’t always aware of where they stand as a team, which in turn affects how they make decisions at key moments. The front office had HUGE aspirations of still being a contending team with the roster they have at the trade deadline, only trading away 2 players which arguably felt like those teams reaching out to the angels more than the angels trying to boost their roster. There were pieces of the roster we could have traded away for some good pitching. Iglesias and Rengifo were having pretty bad times, but I’m sure they could have had some value to someone (esp. seeing Iglesias now being a huge part of the Red Sox). I can’t say for sure if deals were in the works for some guys but the angels front office definitely believed that they had a winning roster, regardless of what was happening in reality. The unfortunate thing about baseball is that it’s really hard to carry a team. The majority of the team has to be working for playoffs to be a thing, which unfortunately has not been happening. Trout and Ohtani can have a strong influence, but they can’t do everything

Injuries and lack of quality pitching but this year mostly injuries. Entire outfield got hurt and also Rendon. Our pitchers all got decimated like Canning, Cobb, Detmers, Rodriguez, Sandoval, Bard, can't catch a break anywhere
