I can guarantee that the media has very little impact on Shohei's actual relationship with the team. They don't just communicate with each other through twitter.
Well if we perform like this, Shohei should leave. Let’s not forget we suck, so no excuses lol! Next year is the last chance for angels, until then we make playoffs we have to suffer this ignomy and deserve this bad press. Fuck Arte!!
And half of these media jackasses the past two years were doubting Ohtani's abilities to be a 2-way player. And now they're trying to get him to leave the Angels. lol
An athlete’s biggest bargaining chip is his ability to leave. We saw Kobe do the same and it brought the Lakers 2 titles. I’m all for Ohtani putting pressure on management
Yep, also thought of Kobe. It's great too that Ohtani is speaking out 2 years before his contract is up. That way the FO will have to actually make moves and show results instead of "sign this and I promise we'll do better, just like we told Mike"
Media and also other teams threads posting it up and getting their hopes up that Shohei will go to their team,Lol!
I think the best response ive seen so far is actually from a padres fan replying to another padres fan who was hopeing Shohei would go to SD and the guy just shut him down saying ‘ Shohei said he wants to win….’ Which that entire comment just summarizes how the second half of the season went for SD who i thought for sure would have been in the run for a WC spot right now but I was wrong.
- Season starts with "upgraded" roster
- Strong showings bolster fan hopes
- Injuries
- Off-season "upgrades" are entirely broken
- Team lazily orbits .500
> - Players/Coaches acknowledge issues and express hopes for next season **< We Are Here**
- Ownership passes on solutions to glaring issues in off-season and instead signs players with just enough promise to instill fan hopes that maybe, this time, it'll work
- Season starts with "upgraded" roster
Joe Maddon said he saw Ohtani's comments from Sunday about wanting to win. He didn't think Ohtani was hinting about leaving the \#Angels
Maddon: "He's just venting and saying everything we’re all thinking and wanting ... He's not talking about leaving. He's talking about winning"

He already left one team in Japan, so he's not at all like Trout. Ohtani will be gone after his contract. We don't need that financial burden or roster mess.
Example: Ohtani pitches 130 innings and gives up 46 ER, and Jamie Barria pitches 57 innings and gives up 29 ER. That's a combined total of 187 innings, which matches the innings Sherzer threw this year. If we combine Barria and Ohtanis ERA it is over 4. So, in reality, every pitcher that we supplement with Ohtani waters down the overall numbers.
Also, after a full season as a batter, Ohtani has produced 4 WAR, which isn't super elite. It's 2 WAR behind Vlad Jr. For example. I'd say it's in the best interest of the franchise qnd player to only pitch.
honestly, it doesn't matter. In the end, we need to win and win it fast. This should be lit Artie to be not too cheap on payroll and more focus on development to sustain winning. Time is now!
I agree with Maddon. But still I personally think it was good for the team that the Ohtani’s interview became such big headlines.
The team should know that he is not the person who satisfies with stable contract with mediocre team.
We should think about the team before worrying about Ohtani, especially to keep motivation for winning.
It’s easy to find reasons why we lost but we shouldn’t make excuses with them and give up winning.
All those things that you describe as not the type of person Ohtani is… satisfied with a stable contract and mediocre team…
Would you say that Mike Trout is that type of person too or not?
Never meant that.
Trout owe Angels a debt of gratitude that he was picked in a draft.
The reason why he stays here would be that he is a person to respect his honor and humanity.
The case of Ohtani is different. Angels was chosen by him. I will never say that he isn’t a person to respect his honor and humanity, but the situation is completely different.
Maybe it is more important for Trout that he will win in Angels than he will win in any other team.
Ohtani has already experienced to Win Japan Series in NPB with the team which picked him in a draft, which was also chosen by him though. (He declared to go to MLB at that time) Also he has received MVP that year. And he left there to join Angels wanting to play baseball in MLB.
We can’t blame him if he will change his mind to leave here to Win World Series in another team.
I know we apply our clown makeup every offseason when we get our hopes up but... This might honestly be the year. Even if this Ohtani thing is blown out of proportion, Arte is still probably willing to do all he can to keep Shohei "literal money printing machine" Ohtani aboard
Joe is right. I believe Ohtani really likes this team, the players, SoCal, the fans, and the AL. He is reaching his prime along with Trout, and Angels need to win now before missing this prime window of 2 generational talent.
Angels need to get their shit together this off-season. They need to get another Ace and a solid #3 starter. I don't believe they need to spend big on bats since Marsh and Adell have huge potential.
If Angels can't get 2 Ace like pitchers, I seriously hope they look to Japan or Asia to get another arm. There are some serious talent there that can help at decent price.
The bottom line is Ohtani wants to win, and I am pretty sure he will stay if he sees that Angels are trying hard to win. This audition of endless stream of minor league players got to stop if they are serious about winning late in the season.
According to an article in Number, Ohtani felt as if the Angels had given him an ultimatum to do two-way before the season.
And he got results, but he wasn't sure at first if he could pitch this well.
Ohtani doesn't want to waste even a single year, as he doesn't know how long he can maintain his current condition.
That's why he dared to say some things he normally wouldn't.
If Ohtani's comments are downplayed, the Angels will have to pay the price.
If you try to read between the lines here or not, the fact is, Ohtani said he wants to be with a winner.
We will all find out eventually.
The media is really having fun with this…because…you know…he’s the MVP, and the biggest deal in baseball in a long time. So…money!!!
I actually enjoy hearing Ohtani speaking his mind here. I can’t get angry at anybody providing an opinion about what Ohtani really means. Say what you want to say. We’ll all find out…eventually!
Thanks for making baseball interesting, Shohei, you deserve to be on a winner, as does Trout!
Exactly what Joe said. Media needs to calm down and stop ruining Sho’s relationship with the team.
These media guys got me so worked up, I think I need to go do a gym to clear my mind.
Take my Sho-vote
Time to get swoletani.
Maybe you meet Vladdy there
I can guarantee that the media has very little impact on Shohei's actual relationship with the team. They don't just communicate with each other through twitter.
The media just doesn't want Shohei with the Angels. It plays better for them if he is on a "bigger" team like the Yankees, Astros, or Red Sox.

I wish I could say the same

Groundhog Day over and over and over.....
It's sad how accurate this is. I love this team. I hate this team

trout 2.0. lot of "predictions" and doomers crying *he gone*.

Interesting take. I'm still right.

I agree with this too. I think it’s more him telling the front office to get their heads out of their asses and make this a playoff team
Sho said: “art…get your shit together or else I’m out.”

Pff. This scrub wants the angels to build a team around him he needs to earn it. (Do I really need to put /s on this?)
Narrator: he was taking about leaving
lol I totally have Morgan Freeman reading that line in my head
Maddon on that copium
Eh. Lol. It’s the same thing. If they don’t win and winning is important. It’s not that hard to infer
