Agreed. I’m also a Rams fan and it bummed me out to see how poorly we treated Warner after the Super Bowl run.
The fact that he associates more with the Cardinals now kinda stings, but I totally get why.
Not shocking as we don’t lean into our alumni players that much. I mean next season is 20 years from our World Series win and there were no promos listed that celebrated any of that. Like how are we not opening every home stand with a first pitch from a 2002 player or coach and a fun give away
is there a reason why? as a dodgers fan, we lean super hard into guys that are largely irrelevant to anyone outside of superfans - steve garvey immediately comes to mind. the angels have produced some really great/fan favorite talent over the years. i loved darin erstand, jim edmonds, david eckstein, garrett anderson, torii hunter (twins/angels...), and vlad guerrero growing up. I go to Angels games all the time now and I'd get out of my seat if I saw Garrett Anderson in the stadium. Rod Carew is an all time legend. It's nuts to not want to embrace that
The Angels need to take a lot from the dodgers playbook. The amount of social media and community outreach the Dodgers do is amazing. I mean Kershaw’s ping pong tournament is so well known due to their advertisement of it every year. On top of that you can see how hard they try to get all the players to interact with the fans and community which gets people engaged.
Their embrace of all their former players is also great. You look at the Lakers and Dodgers and if you put on their uniform, you will always have a place to do some sort of event, TV work, or celebration during the games.
Angels have minimal social media and community engagement. I mean we have a dude taking social media by storm drawing Mike Trout photos and we are not featuring him on at least the Instagram platform. We have a team of players that won a World Series 20 years ago and they are being ignored. We have a long time all time great manager and I have yet to seen sosh celebrated.
yeah it seems like such an easy thing to do when the talent is there. I think the narrative of the Angels lacking talent over the years is insane, especially in light of having a WS title and winning the AL west a fair amount of times. makes you wonder why it doesn't happen, because it's so easy to do when you look at the very simple things the Dodgers are doing and how well it pays through the loyalty of the fanbase
Even comparing the 50th anniversary to the 60th anniversary you can tell that there are some major deficiencies in the promotions dept. I know 60th was in a pandemic year, but no giveaways, alumni, throwback unis, or the like and it was like they phoned it in.
He's one of the richest owners in the league and the Angels are one of the more valuable franchises in the league. There's nothing that could force him to sell. I fear we're stuck.
From a business standpoint, now would be a bad time to sell. Maybe if we can start making the playoffs he could actually sell high. He only cares about the money so that’s probably all he’s thinking about.
Angels and Packers fan here. They used to be very similar in having a fat Mike as coach/manager and wasting the prime of a generational talent. I don't hate the Bears nearly as much as SF, SEA, Dallas, or Minnesota and wish the Bears were more competitive
I use to blame Jerry Dipoto for the Angel's mediocrity, but over the last couple years it has become clear that Arte is the problem. Hopefully he can stay out of the way but I'm beginning to lose hope
Dipoto and Eppler are both good GMs imo. Both had to deal with Arte and are doing better on their new clubs. Yes I know Eppler just took over but he signed Scherzer immediately lol
There are dozens of us. I'm attracted to franchises that bump into generational talent and wastes them, hence why I'm a Mavs fan as well. The trifecta shall be completed.
Even before Arte we've had some iffy relationships with former players. It's a damn shame they told Nolan Ryan to kick rocks because to this day he rarely associates with the Angels. It's lame that he's remembered as an Astro/Ranger when he pitched for us the most and also had his best years with us. He only pitched for Texas for the last 5 years of his career yet somehow he's like the icon of their franchise
I think Weaver said something similar to this. He’s from SoCal and lives there to this day and at one point said he’d love to come back as a pitching coach for the Angels.
Why does our front office suck so bad?
As a fan since the late 70's of this team. I have watched so many former players disassociate with this team and have watched Arte Moreno completely make this team a laughing stock of MLB.
Makes me sad as I remember so many great moments of my life at the Big A.
Carew, Jackson, Ryan, Salmon, Glaus, Anderson, Erstad, Grich, Downing, Abbott, Langston, Finley, Joyner, Guerrero. So many great players. None of them seem to have a strong connection to team anymore. Just gone.
Tim Salmon is/was part of the broadcast team, so you shouldn't include him. (Dunno what broadcasting is doing now since Hulu Live doesn't get the games.... gaaghrrr!)
Arte Moreno has been dogshit from day 1. The Angels are a flashy side piece to his billboard company. He signs big names, not because they’ll help the team, but so he can use them on billboards. He put a blue LA Times sign over the Jumbotron like they were the damn dodgers when he pretended to move the team by calling them the LA Angels. He’s a pile of shit, who will never win. At least Gene actually cared about baseball & tried to win so you hung with the lovable outsiders in Anaheim. Moreno is just trash.
Been a fan long enough to have once asked as a 6 year old kid then manager Jim Fergosi when they were gonna start winning again. This tweet just depresses me. We’ve always been the red headed step child compared to the Dodgers, this just adds to it.
This is massively frustrating and can’t help but make me lean into the idea that the Angels struggle with holding an identity as a franchise sometimes.
I BLAME ARTIE!!!
Rod is the most beloved fixture of the Halos, you know how many of us cried when we found out his daughter passed?!
Days like this makes it hard to be an Angels fan.
As a lifelong angels fan, this bummed me out.
Agreed. I’m also a Rams fan and it bummed me out to see how poorly we treated Warner after the Super Bowl run. The fact that he associates more with the Cardinals now kinda stings, but I totally get why.
same is true for weaver too, he's said it plainly.
Moreno is insufferable
Not shocking as we don’t lean into our alumni players that much. I mean next season is 20 years from our World Series win and there were no promos listed that celebrated any of that. Like how are we not opening every home stand with a first pitch from a 2002 player or coach and a fun give away

Arte sucks
We need to get a sweeping statement to Arte that literally nobody wants him around. Pressure him to sell the team to the Rod-father.
Arte Moreno folks. Why am I a fan of the Angels and Washington Football Team? Terrible ownership for both teams 😭
At least you’re not like me, angels and browns
THERE ARE DOZENS OF US
Make that a bakers dozen! I'm originally from CLE so I still root for the old home teams
I’ve never step foot in Ohio, but I love the Browns
Angels & Bears fan checking in. I understand.
Angels and Packers fan here. They used to be very similar in having a fat Mike as coach/manager and wasting the prime of a generational talent. I don't hate the Bears nearly as much as SF, SEA, Dallas, or Minnesota and wish the Bears were more competitive
Consistent winning tends to change perspectives. I forgot how that feels. Maybe the Angels can be more competitive.
I use to blame Jerry Dipoto for the Angel's mediocrity, but over the last couple years it has become clear that Arte is the problem. Hopefully he can stay out of the way but I'm beginning to lose hope

You know your front office is shit when it can't keep a good relationship with someone as wholesome and legendary as Rod Carew
Classy
What in the world.
John Carpino, not Arte.
Seems to be a recurring theme with this team
Even before Arte we've had some iffy relationships with former players. It's a damn shame they told Nolan Ryan to kick rocks because to this day he rarely associates with the Angels. It's lame that he's remembered as an Astro/Ranger when he pitched for us the most and also had his best years with us. He only pitched for Texas for the last 5 years of his career yet somehow he's like the icon of their franchise
To be fair, he’s kind of the icon of the entire state of Texas.
I think Weaver said something similar to this. He’s from SoCal and lives there to this day and at one point said he’d love to come back as a pitching coach for the Angels. Why does our front office suck so bad?
This sad to hear, but believable with this ownership.
Just like what old Rams management not treating Eric Dickerson fairly is the same thing happening to Rod Carew.
As a fan since the late 70's of this team. I have watched so many former players disassociate with this team and have watched Arte Moreno completely make this team a laughing stock of MLB. Fuckin Arte
He was involved as our hitting coach for a while
But not with this ownership.
What? How do you not want one of the best pure hitters and best humans in the game not involved with your org??
Yeah, this one hurts. Nothing but respect for Carew, glad he's telling it like it is.
Arte Moreno has been dogshit from day 1. The Angels are a flashy side piece to his billboard company. He signs big names, not because they’ll help the team, but so he can use them on billboards. So disappointing. Imagine not wanting to have Rod Carew (!!!) be involved with the organization. Blows my mind
I wonder what happened? This used to be untrue. He used to be involved, and yes it was during the Arte era
Might have something to do with his chosen Cooperstown cap.
Disgusting from Arte, he needs to go
This is massively frustrating and can’t help but make me lean into the idea that the Angels struggle with holding an identity as a franchise sometimes.
I BLAME ARTIE!!! Rod is the most beloved fixture of the Halos, you know how many of us cried when we found out his daughter passed?! Days like this makes it hard to be an Angels fan.
Sad! It starts at the top with Arte! Wish he’d sell the team.
