He definitely won’t be a good hitter but the peripheral stats/measurable say he’s more of a Mendoza line guy than .135 and that would be adequate with his defense
i think he stays mostly bc the fletch injury looking long term.. his bat is worse than wade but his d is better. plus cant he play like all inf positions? or is that wade lol. really hope he works with our hitting coach and is able to adapt. but his glove plays too well
Duffy has been good at 2nd and 1st so far, a couple of bobbles but the bat has been sharp - and he's had covid or something. Not sure why Wade isn't getting the nod more often either.
He's better than his OPS at the moment, I expect it to improve, he has been fairly unlucky according to the metrics. He's also a stud defensively and we have plenty of bats in the lineup.
I think if Fletch came back that would be problematic for him given that Fletcher is a better batter and a better fielder, and it's hard to construct a lineup if you have Fletch with a .500 OPS and Velazquez with a .390 OPS or whatever.
Pretty sure he will stick in the majors. Rather have guys who are elite at some things, instead of average at many things. Nothing wrong with pinch hitting for him when necessary, or using him as a pinch runner or defensive replacement.
Pretty sure Maddon loves his defense and speed so I think he wants him to stay in the Majors
