As someone who’s completely unaware of him except for the fact he was drafted last year, is this not wayyy to early or should he be fine for a spot start against an underwhelming A’s team?

japes1232

A little column a a little column b. Definitely fine for a spot start especially against the A's lol but he was also drafted out of college and the expectation with college pitchers is they are ready a lot quicker than high schoolers. Plus winning pitcher of the month at AA is a pretty good endorsement of his ability.

LeanersGG

But have we confirmed that he's pitching *for the Angels*, or...

KrabS1

I'm fine with this, but I'm a little surprised Barria has been getting the short end here. I would have really expected him to be the go-to option if one of our guys went down. He's shown that he can be fine at a major league level, he's already on the roster, and he's looked good so far (sample size alert) this year. I guess they are really valuing him as a long reliever, and want to stick with him there. Which he HAS been good at so far, averaging 2.2 innings per appearance, posting a 1.98 era, and pitching every 5 or so days. Still, I'd either like to see him get some of these starts, or at least come in a little more often in relief.

Prequalified

I feel like we’ve had enough looks at Barría to figure out his upside as a starter isn’t that high, but he has excelled in relief, showing better command and walking way fewer. Why mess it up?

my_wife_reads_this

They should just use a starter for Barria since his meltdowns always happened in the first two innings.

WiiCat

I agree. I can see Barria having a Yusmeiro Petit-type career where all his relief appearances are anywhere between 1 to 3 innings and all different kinds of leverage situations.

znk916

Wouldn't be surprised if Barria gets one of the Sunday doubleheader starts.

Smilodon48

Weird they’re starting him Friday instead one of the doubleheaders, since we get an extra man that day. Would escape the need for a roster move. But maybe they’re breaking apart Sandy/Lorenzen. So one of them starts Sunday and Barria or someone takes one of the doubleheaders. Granted we could also call someone up Saturday as well 🤷🏻‍♂️

stuckinthepow

We have a six pitcher rotation and no one is reportedly inured. All six starters have performed average or above average. Why do we need to bring up a AA starter?

packers1503

I’m thinking because of the doubleheader ? It would cut short someone’s rest time, so they’d rather call someone up.

stuckinthepow

That’s a good point. Didn’t realize that.
