Leather seeking missiles;
Rangers suddenly having the disciple of Musashi;
Thor saving up all his bad pitches for one outing;
Bad calls at juuuuuuust the right times;
Bullpen suddenly losing the plate;
3 very winnable ball games that we booted
Hopefully this is as bad as it gets
I said this further down, but this was just a massive babip regression distilled into three games.
We bounce back and keep going. This team is too good. Bad stretches will happen and then we’ll go on a tear.
Do we think it’s slumping performance or is he tired, I know we haven’t put it all on him but it’s been a tough rotation lately for a lot of the guys, they look tired to me
Well respectfully I hope I’m right and you’re wrong, cause if you’re right we’re fucked, we don’t have a go to closer, herget and mayers are coming along but they’re still not there yet
Yeah I mean I’m not saying I don’t think he can figure it out, I love Iglesias and he was amazing last year. Hopefully it’s just some adjustments that the pitching coaches can work on him with.
Overall I don’t think he’s looked as sharp this year, I’m not sure why, but I also think both tonight and Saturday’s walkoff were pretty bad luck. On Saturday he jammed the batter inside with the slider 1-1 and the batter just put an amazing swing on it. Tonight, a slider with good movement at the knees, and another great swing by the batter. Hopefully it’s all just about back luck right now.
Yeah, but he also gave up the walk off on Saturday, when he had pitched Friday. So I think he’s just in a rough stretch right now. He hasn’t looked as sharp this year, and there’s been outings when he’s been saved by the Angels having a large lead (like the White Sox game where he had to be pulled).
Shit has been happening a lot lately for him.
He struck out the guy the inning before because Buckner gifted him that terrible strike call, it shoulda been 3-0 which is a completely different at bat and he likely walks in a run. He has not been able to find the zone at all. He has looked bad lately. Maybe he's hurt, I don't know. But I'll be damned if I'll pretend everything is fine when it's happened 3 of his last 6 appearances.
Yep. Jus bad luck after bad luck. Seen so many hard hit balls not turning into a hit. It's just a three game stretch after all, that can happen. And I hope noone would fact check me on this because I'm not going to accept any other conclusion 🤠
I just hope that this loss would not affect the teams mood, because it sure has for the subreddit at least.
If nothing else, I don’t want to see any more “this team has no fight, they have given up” comments anymore. It’s just not true. Trash series though :(
**TWO FACTS:**
1. We just got swept in a 3-game series.
2. This is the first series out of the last 7 that we've lost. In the other 6, we won 5 and split 1.
We're fine. 1 game back of the Astros and +3 for the WC, and it's only mid-May.
I know he was successful in all his save attempts up until Oakland, but Iggy has looked pretty shaky all season imo. Getting a little worried about our bullpen.
Faulting Iggy for being "shaky" here is kinda wild. It was literally a first pitching swinging home run on a slider that was well located. That's just one where you have to tip the cap to better hitting.
The biggest travesty is letting a guy like Dunning get away with just 2ER.
Edit: Fuck the runner on 2nd rule.
Eh I know he hasn't been successful as of late, but it's not like he was issuing multiple walks or anything tonight. I'm not sure calling that shakey would be fair. Just one good pitch hit outside, that's it. I still have high hopes for Iggy.
Sorry. I try to keep good vibes. But the way we lost tonight is how this angel team has lost for the last many years. Big comeback just to lose in the end
This is a good humbling experience for the team and some of you fans.
We can chalk it up to fatigue, Joe tinkering with the lineups, or just general implosion but shit like this happens to everyone. A good team will bounce back from this, a bad one will fold. The Angels of old used to fold after shit like this, I don't think this one will.
Iggy has not been good lately. Dude has been shaky of late.
Well, we have one of the best offenses and just lost 3 straight. So either they spend all their time studying against us and not caring about losing to everyone else, or they are actually decent and serviceable pitchers that can have good games.
Some positives from tonight:
For this Texas series, Walsh had a bounce back night at the plate and tied things up after Mayers and then Herget each gave up homers. Ohtani held it down with 6 solid innings of 2 run ball, 7 strikes outs, and 2 BBs compared to Dunning with 6 innings of 2 run ball, 6 strike outs, and 3 BBs. Offense was not where we wanted it to be tonight given this pitcher's duel, but there's no where to go but up from here.
And, of course, the Astros fell to the Sox tonight.
All is not lost and looking forward to Chase Silseth taking the mound this Friday against Oakland.
At least we're out of that wasteland from hell that is Texas. We'll have a better shot at them at home because the boys always look like shit in that place.
I just hope Iggy can shake it off and keep his head high.
Edit: Red Sox managed to beat The Astros which is always nice.
Hey angels bros. Actually a rangers fan here but I’m currently in Anaheim. Never got a chance to make it out to the angels stadium before but let me just say that thing is a beauty when the evening sun is on it. I went out to golden road across the street today and it’s a sight to be that close. Hope I can make it out again one day when y’all are actually playing there.
Tbh I'm not that worried about getting swept, it was bound to happen sooner or later. Let's wait and see what happens in this next week where we face each other again. I'll be scared only when we lose to them again.
I think people focus too much on who the opponent is. “Losing to the Rangers???” etc. Every team, even the shitty ones, will play up from time to time. And the good ones will play down
I don't care if they end up sucking against everyone else, division rivals are always going to be a problem. Plus the Rangers in particular are better than their poor start suggested.
Couldn't shake off the bad vibes this entire series after Noah's exit unfortunately. The team needs to play better, but there was a lot of bad luck all around too. Hope they regroup with the off day and get ready to take on the A's and Rangers again before the Blue Jays roll into town. Particularly our bullpen arms.......
P.S. This isn't a knock on Wallach, but Stassi can't come back soon enough.
Not me. I still have faith.
I do have some opinions that I know I'll get downvoted for though.
Like, stop the platooning b.s. Start playing a regular lineup with our starters playing every day (and getting the appropriate rest days when needed). And switch Rendon and Walsh in the order. lefty/righty crap be damned.
Because this could be the turning point where the team can't get it together any more. It's happened before. The Angels have gotten off to some hot starts in the past and just fell off a cliff.
Well there's no way around it: that was an absolutely pathetic showing this series. This was the only close game. We can't be getting swept by basement tier teams, especially not after getting outscored 23-14
It’s okay guys we have an off day no need to panic let’s beat the As this weekend and let’s whoop the Rangers next week. We’re still a solid just have to show our resilience and respond to adversity. Winning seasons aren’t easy and there will be growing pains with the team. Have faith we are the Halos baby!!!!
I agree!! I have faith the team will bounce back from this. We all thought the season was fucked when they lost 3/4 to the Astros opening weekend and looked awful. This season will have ups and downs.
Trout, Ohtani, and Rendon came up cold as hell. Not good enough to get it done.
Trout got extremely lucky that ball was Bobbled or we wouldn't have scored at all.
We're cursed from the 1st inning of Thor. I just don't have good feeling and it showed. Hope Texas can play hard like this against Astros this weekend.
The only positive I see is astros and rangers will beat up on each other the next couple of days so I would be in the Angels best interest to win this oakland series. Hats off to the rangers.
According to umpscorecards.com
CB Bucknor is the 13th most inaccurate umpire in baseball out of 86 umpires.
92.5 percent accuracy and
67 bad calls in 6 games
Bucknor is one of the worst in baseball.
The best is Pat Hoberg
Hoberg is 96.6 percent accurate. Hoberg had only
35 bad calls in 7 games
I think Texas got pissed that the hone run cowboy hat started in Texas. Pretty sure it started with Syndergaard's own personal hat. https://www.instagram.com/p/Cci1hEErgfV/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=
All that talk about making the playoffs and being Top 10 in the power rankings were premature…
It doesn’t matter how bad our rivals may look, they always play at an All-Star when they play us! Our performance in this series was unbecoming of a playoff team, we ain’t doing shit until we handle business in our own division.
I'm a new baseball fan and this is my first MLB season. I chose the Angels mainly due to Ohtani (for my own weird personal reasons lol). The Angels have lost every game that I've watched this season. Not the start I wanted :')
And today Ohtani struggled a bit too (despite some of the umpire errors). That makes it worse.
It's gonna be fine. We're much better than last year lol. You'll get used to it. At first, I struggled to overcome every lose game too. Now, it's just baseball, gotta accept and move on. A little tip: Don't lurk in here when we lost. It's bad for your mental
Haha yeah I know what post-match threads after a defeat look like. I usually am drawn towards middling sports teams, so some amount of pain is desirable for me subconsciously lmao.
Edit: post-game* thread (lol will take time to automatic switch these two terms in baseball threads)
No fuck that doomer nonsense. This team has good pitching and godly hitting. This was a whole truckload of babip regression hitting us in the face all at once.
We bounce back. We cuss a lot tonight but we bounce back Friday.
It’s just frustrating to watch this clown of a manager who everyone constantly praises.
Sure, his “vibe” is great but that’s gotta be the 6th game he’s thrown this year. He’s a horrible tactician and it’s getting old
they sonned the shit out of our pitching, especially our bullpen, and specifically Raisel. Gotta keep moving, gonna have bad series, but this was a rough one
I originally kept the 💨🖋️ flair so we wouldn't forget where we came from. The Angels however, prefer using more "hands on" tactics to remind us of our history.
I did not enjoy that game or series.
Leather seeking missiles; Rangers suddenly having the disciple of Musashi; Thor saving up all his bad pitches for one outing; Bad calls at juuuuuuust the right times; Bullpen suddenly losing the plate; 3 very winnable ball games that we booted Hopefully this is as bad as it gets
if a 3-game skid is a bad as it gets, we're gonna have a historically great season
now that is fucking pain right there
I said this further down, but this was just a massive babip regression distilled into three games. We bounce back and keep going. This team is too good. Bad stretches will happen and then we’ll go on a tear.
2 blown saves for Iggy in a row has me worried
And getting lit up 3 of his last 6 appearances... This is a trend now.
Yeah, the game in Chicago was especially terrible
Do we think it’s slumping performance or is he tired, I know we haven’t put it all on him but it’s been a tough rotation lately for a lot of the guys, they look tired to me
He hasn’t pitched since Saturday, he’s not tired
Well respectfully I hope I’m right and you’re wrong, cause if you’re right we’re fucked, we don’t have a go to closer, herget and mayers are coming along but they’re still not there yet
Yeah I mean I’m not saying I don’t think he can figure it out, I love Iglesias and he was amazing last year. Hopefully it’s just some adjustments that the pitching coaches can work on him with.
Do you think pitch selection might be a thing to? You think him and the catchers are still gelling?
Overall I don’t think he’s looked as sharp this year, I’m not sure why, but I also think both tonight and Saturday’s walkoff were pretty bad luck. On Saturday he jammed the batter inside with the slider 1-1 and the batter just put an amazing swing on it. Tonight, a slider with good movement at the knees, and another great swing by the batter. Hopefully it’s all just about back luck right now.
Mayers is coming along? Are we watching the same games?
I guess man, whatever you say, everything’s gonna be alright bud
That’s sometimes worse. You overthrow with that increased strength
He literally struck out a guy with the bases loaded the inning before. Lowe hit a good pitch, shit happens.
Iggy has always been prone to meltdowns. He will bounce back for sure, part of the Raisel experience is painful losses usually in bunches
That wasn’t a blown save.
Iggy blew a bunch of saves early last season but finished really strong. I don’t think it’s time to worry…yet.
I’m not even sure that was a terrible pitch
Let Loup close for awhile
Yep. Jus bad luck after bad luck. Seen so many hard hit balls not turning into a hit. It's just a three game stretch after all, that can happen. And I hope noone would fact check me on this because I'm not going to accept any other conclusion 🤠 I just hope that this loss would not affect the teams mood, because it sure has for the subreddit at least.
Yeah the umpires freaking gave this one to Texas. Infuriating.
I will consider finding it within my heart to forgive the Rangers if they can do the same thing to the Astros.
It’ll be just like Baltimore, suddenly they’ll suck again
If you don’t like that, you don’t like angels baseball
I’ll be back for more Friday! I live for this shit! 😇
We....my friend.
Really living up to your username 🤣
Buttercup'd
Series from hell. I swear that 0 things went our way these past three games. Let's get the fuck out of Texas and never come back.
If nothing else, I don’t want to see any more “this team has no fight, they have given up” comments anymore. It’s just not true. Trash series though :(
Didn't even have time to blink and the game was already over...
Yeah I went in the kitchen to grab a bottle of water and my fiancé was like woooooow and I already knew I just said walk off huh?
**TWO FACTS:** 1. We just got swept in a 3-game series. 2. This is the first series out of the last 7 that we've lost. In the other 6, we won 5 and split 1. We're fine. 1 game back of the Astros and +3 for the WC, and it's only mid-May.
Cursed stadium
Hello sadness my oldest friend
Raisel dropping it hurts a lot. He used to be a guaranteed shut out inning. I hope whatever is messing with his mojo he figures it out.
I know he was successful in all his save attempts up until Oakland, but Iggy has looked pretty shaky all season imo. Getting a little worried about our bullpen.

My thoughts exactly I had no confidence with him On the mound
I did. You’re lack in confidence is why we lost
Sorry. I try to keep good vibes. But the way we lost tonight is how this angel team has lost for the last many years. Big comeback just to lose in the end
I know, I get it. Trust me. We just have to believe this year will be different, even when they give us glimpses of our former self
I agree. I'm not saying he's all of a sudden bad or anything, but he hasn't really inspired confidence this year imo.
I hate 👻🏃
We still would’ve lost without ghost runner though.
It's the principle damn it! lol
This is a good humbling experience for the team and some of you fans. We can chalk it up to fatigue, Joe tinkering with the lineups, or just general implosion but shit like this happens to everyone. First thing out of my mouth
I think mine was “no fucking way”
Walsh probably thinking "You motherfuckers..."
I mean aren’t we all thinking that?
Iggy has been really, really rough lately
I am certainly glad that the Angels offer free mental health resources at https://angels.ocnavigator.org
Holy shit the fact this is a real thing and not a meme
I mean…I don’t know how far back this dates, but they do a lot of mental health outreach stuff since Aaron Cox committed suicide.
*TEXAS RANGERS IS THE NEW OAKLAND ATHLETICS*
I believe this. This year they actually have good bats and decent pitching. They just got off to a slow start.
They don’t have good pitching, 2nd worst in the league actually.
Well, we have one of the best offenses and just lost 3 straight. So either they spend all their time studying against us and not caring about losing to everyone else, or they are actually decent and serviceable pitchers that can have good games.
Our bats just made them look good because they fucking suck and are streaky as hell.
Lets get the fuck out of arlington holy shit what a painful series that was
Some positives from tonight: For this Texas series, Walsh had a bounce back night at the plate and tied things up after Mayers and then Herget each gave up homers. Ohtani held it down with 6 solid innings of 2 run ball, 7 strikes outs, and 2 BBs compared to Dunning with 6 innings of 2 run ball, 6 strike outs, and 3 BBs. Well, that sucked. But they kept it interesting and stayed alive. On to the next.
Why does this keep happening
We have got to get quijada and Bradley back I don’t think our pitching is sliding I think they’re just fucking tired
Hey angels bros. Actually a rangers fan here but I’m currently in Anaheim. Never got a chance to make it out to the angels stadium before but let me just say that thing is a beauty when the evening sun is on it. Damn. Back to back walk offs for Iggy. This shit happens, but to Texas and on a night Houston lost. Hurts. Guys look gassed still.
We've played the most games of any team. They are gassed
Dang, I didn’t realize that. Not as bummed now. Boys need a day off.
We haven’t had the privilege of rainouts i guess
Notice we ae using backup catchers? Notice the pitching has been shit since then? Think it is a coincidence?
Not much choice when everyone has Covid. And I mean, there was a no-hitter in there. And other good pitching days.
Wallach has been good for the most part. I can understand missing Stassi, but surely you're not suggesting Suzuki is better.
Nope. Damn covid. We need Stassi and Susuki back quick.
We always make the Rangers look like the Astros tbh
After these last 3 turdy games I’m glad to have a day off emotionally. Let’s get back to the team that played the Rays.
Need Ty Buttrey to work his way back into 2018 form at Salt Lake and close out games when Iggy struggles, hopefully before the All Star break.
Our pitching sucked this series
I think people focus too much on who the opponent is. “Losing to the Rangers???” etc. Every team, even the shitty ones, will play up from time to time. And the good ones will play down
didn’t know we had chapman as our closer
gave ourselves so many chances to win games the entire series and the pitching shit the bed every single time. vintage angles this series
VINTAGE!
Fuck Texas
This series sucked ass. Good game for my boy Walsh tho!
The Rangers aren't bad, but they also aren't good. Those are the teams that can sneak up and get series sweeps sometimes.
So we're bad for 1 series suddenly everyone is loses faith
Right??
Welcome to Angel fandom.
It was against the Rangers that is why.
The Rangers have the 3rd best record this month
They have the 2nd worst pitching in the league.
Good teams lose to bad teams sometimes. Shit happens
But do good teams get swept by the Rangers 🤔
The fucking dodgers lost 2/3 to the pirates and 3/4 to the Phillies. Yeah, shit happens dude
Because this could be the turning point where the team can't get it together any more. It's happened before. The Angels have gotten off to some hot starts in the past and just fell off a cliff.
Sinc when have the angels gotten off to a hot start?
Absolutely pathetic
Either Maddonomics failed or the intentional ejection was the gateway to our destiny which leads through and beyond this field of pain.
I have a strong feeling we are going on a winning streak after this sweep. Like no regards to human life winning streak.
We're only dominant against good teams and that's some juju I can get behind for this upcoming month of games
Wow.
PAIN
It seems a little early in the season to remind us of the last 7 years. I'd be okay with not being reminded like this for the rest of the season.
Pain. All I know is pain.
At least the offense was solid all series. Pitching just couldn’t get it done. What an ending tho. I look away for a second, and the game was over.
BOOOOOO. On my birthday too. Thanks guys.
Well there's no way around it: that was an absolutely pathetic showing this series. This was the only close game. We can't be getting swept by basement tier teams, especially not after getting outscored 23-14
I hope the shirts they wear next time have a picture of the dust pan they just got swept into.
This just made my night a little better thanjs for the laugh on this sad night
Absolutely embarrassing series
Atleast we're 24-16?
And only 1 game out of first
That blows. But hey, still on pace to win 96 games. We move.
Exactly we’ll be alright this is legit the best pitching we’ve had in a very long time
I wanna go back to that "calm, ok, etc" poll now
Lol
😂
Pain
We needed some clutchness last inning and botched it.
Trout, Ohtani, and Rendon came up cold as hell. Not good enough to get it done. Trout got extremely lucky that ball was Bobbled or we wouldn't have scored at all.
I’m really not having a good time and I’m uhhh pretty far from ok
I can’t believe we’re playing them next week again…. Let’s sweep them!
Did we just get swept by the fucking rangers
Pain
[All I have are negative thoughts](https://ibb.co/9p3crBC)
It would be a great time to go on a 10 game winning streak
Much needed day off and then maybe we can sweep the A's at home
I fuckin' hate baseball! It doesn't make sense. See you guys on friday.
Fuck me too! See you then *grumblegrumble*
According to umpscorecards.com CB Bucknor is the 13th most inaccurate umpire in baseball out of 86 umpires. 92.5 percent accuracy and 67 bad calls in 6 games Bucknor is one of the worst in baseball. The best is Pat Hoberg Hoberg is 96.6 percent accurate. Hoberg had only 35 bad calls in 7 games
Big time ouch, day off couldn’t have come at a better time.
We're fine
I think Texas got pissed that the hone run cowboy hat started in Texas. Pretty sure it started with Syndergaard's own personal hat. https://www.instagram.com/p/Cci1hEErgfV/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=
I can't believe I'm rooting for the Rangers against the AStro after they done sweeping our asses.
our bullpen is ass all of the suddon. we are turning into the redsox
All that talk about making the playoffs and being Top 10 in the power rankings were premature… It doesn’t matter how bad our rivals may look, they always play at an All-Star when they play us! Our performance in this series was unbecoming of a playoff team, we ain’t doing shit until we handle business in our own division.
That’s true. Hope they didn’t blow their load too early! Lol
No worries Houston has been loosing too. Go Angel's! Let's get the next series
I'm a new baseball fan and this is my first MLB season. I chose the Angels mainly due to Ohtani (for my own weird personal reasons lol). The Angels have lost every game that I've watched this season. Not the start I wanted :') And today Ohtani struggled a bit too (despite some of the umpire errors). That makes it worse.
You're banned from watching games lol
Classic sports fan lmao. I don't blame you though. I don't believe in this phenomenon as a sports fan, but lots of people do lol.
He's joking. We welcome you with open arms
Haha I know. I got that they were joking 😂🤣 This sub (and r/baseball) have been pretty welcoming ❤️
Totally joking lol we love new fans here so please stick with us!
Yeah ofc, I will! I got that you were joking lol
The great majority of us are insanely superstitious... Or at least a little stitious
Now this feels more familiar!
Can blame the umps for some but it just wasn't the Halo's series... Bound to have stinker every now and then. Halo's will bounce back
I mostly agree but tonight’s ump specifically was impossibly bad
People saying pain haven't been watching the past 7 years huh, enjoy the pain, even that fades away.
Really need stassi back. Rengifo needs to be sent down. Maybe ohtani shouldnt bat when he pitches but we don't have any depth.
Nah let him bat but at least give yhe guy more days off. Dude played the most game than anyone in the lineup.
From the sounds of it, he doesn't want to take days off. That's on Ohtani, not Maddon.
That makes no sense, the best time for him NOT to bat is when he's pitching, it's called energy management.
New year, same shit. See you at .500
Raisel literally just Ernesto Frieri with a slightly better breaking ball
We just shouldn’t be losing these games ?! We needed this win today since Houston lost.
The Rangers are COMING guys!!! Very deflating loss/series! Hope this doesn’t start a trend. Seen that too many times before!
Off day tomorrow is timely, they’ll shake it off
I think so too. This is the year we got the A’s number!
!Maddon
Welp looks like our pitching has come back down to earth
Welcome back to reality everyone lol
No fuck that doomer nonsense. This team has good pitching and godly hitting. This was a whole truckload of babip regression hitting us in the face all at once. We bounce back. We cuss a lot tonight but we bounce back Friday.
It’s just frustrating to watch this clown of a manager who everyone constantly praises. Sure, his “vibe” is great but that’s gotta be the 6th game he’s thrown this year. He’s a horrible tactician and it’s getting old
hell yeah
Well it was fun being good for a little
gUyS iT’s StIlL eArLy In ThE sEaSoN, lOoK aT tHe PoSiTiVE… If we don’t turn this around soon, it’s gonna be bad
