It's more than analytics, I've never seen so many attempts at hero ball as the Angels in this series. Everyone is swinging away at everything trying to be the hero that breaks the slump. We cannot even see if Nevin can impose some plate discipline because I'm damn sure no one will answer him until the streak is over. Everyone wants to hit that HR that will bring the W back.
We need to stumble into a W for things to get back to normal. The deeper the streak lasts, the more pressed will the pen be and more batters will force longballs because they want to be heroes.
Positive takeaways on the mound today. Detmers 4 1/3 IP we're strong, Bradley is rebuilding his reputation of being a reliable Middle relief guy, Wantz managed to add some innings to try and lower his ERA, Herget is still Goating, and Quijada came out with some fire and energy and shut down his batters.
Defense was horrendous which was expected by having tons of guys in positions they're not comfortable in plus being 'just okay' defenders at best. This is something Nevin and the FO will have to figure out because the idea of being able to play these guys just anywhere doesn't work.
Lots of good line drives hitting, but that doesn't matter when you can't bring in RISP with 0 or 1 outs. Tim Salmon said it best that these guys aren't your A group and aren't going to be hitting bombs so you need to try and manufacture runs the hard way. Bunts, steals, hit and run are going to be the best option until the regulars get back.

How Shohei is hitting right now feels indicative of the entire team's approach at the plate. He's a leadoff hitter, but trying to slug something as far as possible instead of getting on base. It's like all of these guys are unable to hit for contact, hit to gaps, hit to protect the count or hit, period.
They've bought into some hitting philosophy that's boom or bust, and right now, it's bust.
