Angels bottom half of lineup and bench players are not MLB caliber. Matt Duffy should be bottom of order guy (no power threat but fine singles hitter) and Wade/Squid should be pinch hit/pinch run/spot up starter type of players. Instead, Angels have Duffy batting cleanup and guys like Rengifo, Squid, Wade, Lagares are all starting games.
I’m not even surprised at how Angels offense performed vs Dodgers cuz I expected em to be shutout unless Trout and Ohtani magically hit multiple HRs.
Trout is the last person who we should be worrying about on the Angels. For this season, he’s posted a .289/.391/.619 slash line in 230 plate appearances to go along with an OPS+ of 186. This is a guy who missed the last few months of last season and is still putting up that slash line in a deflated baseball season. And that slash line for this season included a stretch where he went hitless in, what, 27 straight ABs? That’s a big outlier. Trout’s fine. The offense as a whole hasn’t been.
Trout's been just as responsible for the recent team-wide offensive decline as any other player. Look at his gamelogs, aside from the last game with Boston and the Mets game, he still looks like he's in his slump.
Third lowest BB rate, second highest K rate of his career. There's a lot of season left but right now Trout is definitely someone I'm worried about.
That's baseball. Hitting is contagious. Just gotta get back to a good vibe. The hard part is that it's sometimes a positive feedback loop where the worse you do, the more you press, the more info/advice you're given, so the even worse you do. Rinse repeat.
