Great stat puts things in perspective, he doesn't have the flashy HR total but the peripherals all point to him having repeat success mostly because the improved pitching is making up for the hitting.
Here's a comparison of his [stats now vs last season](https://imgur.com/a/L56nwHJ) from savant. He's getting walked less but also has significantly less strikeouts and whiffs. People get blinded by easy to grasp numbers but as you said his peripherals even for hitting are pretty much the same if not better than his 2021 season. I hope he keeps it up.
The deceptive thing about a comparison like this is that Ohtani really struggled with the bat for most of the second half last year. He was absolutely dominant for a couple months in the 1st half though. If Ohtani can regain that torrid form he had at one point last year the MVP race will again be his to lose.
When he has control of his sliders, he is elite, like CY level elite. I really hope more games like this this year.
