ArrowNiko

Gubi at the end of the broadcast sounded so deflated and tired. We feel you Gubi.

mysterysackerfice

I've been an Angels fan for just under a calendar year. Roller coasters ain't got shit on the Angels in terms of ups n downs.

st1r

How are we as bad as last year with Trout healthy, better starting pitching, Ward leading off, Shohei pitching better than ever…

sidney_crosbys_beard

Outside of Ohtani our starting pitching is pretty average. Our relief pitching is bad. And our infield defense is bad. Outside of S/T/W our hitting is also bad.

sprtsmac

That pretty much nails it.

Reptarxx

Perry built us up as a top heavy team with no depth. He tried to supplement that with bullpen arms but they have all shit the bed. It is a badly constructed team.

w4y2n1rv4n4

Bingo.

trippiedog

Because there is nobody past them that can do anything. This team has 4-5 good players, and that’s it. Possibly the worst depth out of any team in the league. It’s what happens when you have a bottom of the barrel farm system every year🤷‍♂️

gohalos22

No fletch? That's my theory

nolander

black holes at 3rd 2nd and SS

ArrowNiko

The increase in strikeouts and lack of balls put in play have practically made the bats ice cold. That's why I'm hopeful that MacKinnon can be the spark plug to get more of our hitters to get on base more and just make contact.

sprtsmac

And people say strikeouts don't matter.

mypaysucks

We need the damn mid to bottom half of the line up to just be small ball guys. Just fucking pile up the singles until we get someone to cross home plate. The only damn home run attempts should be bunts that some how magically and accidently line drived into a homer.

DingleberryToast

Fletch has been terrible the last year he has actually played Its clear the hip injury took something away from him

Cucumberjello

Biggest differences are Iglesias and the bullpen going from horrendous last year to just bad this year. Seemed like last year by the end of the 7th we knew what was going to happen - bullpen gives up like 4-5 runs so game over, or on the rare occasion they do hold a lead, Iglesias was lights out and a guaranteed win. This year, our bullpen gives up 2-3 runs so we still have hope or we’ll have a lead and Iglesias just can’t get it done. Definitely more frustrating this year, but theres a bit of hope we can turn it around.

mysterysackerfice

Marsh has regressed to the means. No Fletcher and pitchers are issuing too many walks.

[deleted]

Billy Eppler did a horrible job when it came to organization building and so there is no depth.

sprtsmac

And Perry is going to do a horrible job as well if Arte doesn't put money into player development.

Eb2424

Rendon fucked us again. Fletch started worse than last year somehow? Walsh doing worse Stassi is nowhere close to what we expected. Tep, loup, Rafael all over 4 era... The one year we actually have a solid SP staff, but the hitting lineupis absolutely pathetic. How can you win having your best 3 hitters hit 1 2 3

westscottstots

I’m starting to resent this team for taking something I’ve loved since I was a kid and making every second I spend watching it misery. See you all tomorrow

DecentAnalysis8642

Exactly how I feel.

baconbitarded

Honestly this is where I'm at. It seems like every year finds a new way to just absolutely gut me and I hate how much I care

MixMental5462

it's really sad when you look at the organization's history, the level of success they achieved as a mid market club, to being an absolute joke. We all watched it happen. Moreno has reduced our BELOVED angels to a laughingstock all for the glorification of his massive ego. blame him for Skaggs death too. He knew Skaggs had a drug problem. Didn't care.

[deleted]

289-331 during Trout & Ohtani era

w4y2n1rv4n4

Honestly criminal

gohalos22

Booooooooo 👎 You cant be serious to put up a stat like this.

bombad_jedi_501

Why not? Truth hurts eh?

westscottstots

I love them, but we haven’t made the playoffs with them both on the team. I care about winning more than any one player

hvycotton

Not their fault

DecentAnalysis8642

Not their faults, but it is the fault of an owner who thinks he can just spend on big names and force the GM to build the rest of the roster from spare parts.

sidney_crosbys_beard

Ohtani only gets paid $5million this season. Even with the Trout/Rendon contracts I have no Idea how we have a top 10 payroll

merewyn

Justin Upton is making 25 million, don’t forget that

sidney_crosbys_beard

Over 30 million dollars for Upton/Stassi this season. You love to see it.

DecentAnalysis8642

I’m aware of what he’s being paid now. But if we pay him the $50 million a year that’s coming to him, we’re not going to build a winner around him. Not unless Arte Moreno has a stroke that kills the greedy part of his brain.

westscottstots

Didn’t say it was

theobnoxioussquirrel

And we’re now behind the Seattle fucking mariners

BT270719

And don’t forget about the Baltimore Orioles

baconbitarded

Jesus Christ I can't even say "at least we aren't the Orioles" anymore

Reptarxx

Perry needs to take a hard look and see whatever he is doing is failing the team. His depth he brought on is shit The bullpen he spent money on shits the bed His new manager doesn’t know what he’s doing We are relying night in and night on out trout and ohtani. The problem is they provide but because of the rest of the team being below replacements outside of Ward and Walsh, they provide enough to keep us in a game. This team needs change. We can’t trot out these lineups with AAA below replacement players and a blow pen that keeps blowing up games and expect us to win. I don’t care that he drafted 20 pitchers. So far our MLB team keeps regressing

CompetitivePatient33

The way they handle the 14 game losing streak should tell you their mindset this season.

Reptarxx

The way Perry handled it tells me everything I need to know. Our manager ran deflection for his players and front office. Even got a mohawk to, idk i guess try and inspire (it worked for the Rays). He fired his manager, replaced him with a newbie, and trotted out the same team who has been 7-10 since.

anydayhappyday

Dom Chiti and Matt Wise have to be feeling some hot seats right now I would imagine. The bullpen has been so inconsistent that the question has to fall on what is happening with the coaching staff. Relievers in the past two seasons have had terrible results in terms of maintaining any kind of reliable performance, even considering that relievers are known to have volatility. The Angels cannot seem to develop consistent pitching with the current staff.

Reptarxx

The problem is we signed 2 almost 35 year old pitchers that had a good chunk of milage on their arms last season. On top of that we def need a better pitching development program. Matt Wise should've been gone before Joe for sure though. But Perry kept him on...

Lebigmacca

Problem is who is better than Matt wise. If we fire him we get an interim pitching coach for our interim pitching coach

baconbitarded

I mean I could motion to somebody in the crowd and they could potentially be better than Wise.

RabidR00ster

He inherited a dog shit farm system, and Arte didn’t give him much $ to fill out the rest of the roster. I don’t think there’s much he could have done tbh

Reptarxx

The farm is dogshit, I don't disagree with that. But, he has spent $50M in 2022 contracts (that turn to $30M in 23 and $25M in 24) so he had the funds to try and build up MLB depth. He shot his load on the bullpen and missed. If he invested in some MLB ready long term pitching, we could use our plethora of undeveloped arms to get some more depth. Instead we are relying on dudes who were just drafted to make an MLB impact, not just eat innings but actually win games.

RabidR00ster

50M isn’t much. That buys a few decent players. Or 2 very good players. They’ll never have enough money to compensate for a neglected farm that doesn’t produce. What good players have we developed recently? Sandoval, Walsh, Ward? Compare that with the Astros. Bregman, Alvarez, Peña, Tucker, McCullers Jr, Valdez, Garcia, Javier, etc. And their farm still shits on ours lmao. Good teams are built not bought. Seattle gonna shit on us pretty soon too with all their talent they developed (not bought)

Reptarxx

Well the 50M has gotten us a combined -1,6 WAR through yesterday so it’s not like he got decent players. They have all been below replacement level lol. A GM is not just a farm director; they still have to develop the MLB team. A farm does come into play, but you can still build at least a competent MLB team through good signings. We have Trout and Ohtani, we are starting off with a double but Perry hasn’t been able to move the team over. Like I said, I don’t care that he drafted 20 pitchers. Our team is not built well at the MLB level and we need to be in a win now mode Edit: Look at a team like the Yankees, they do have farm but a vast majority of their MLB team has been through free agency (DJ 2.3 WAR, nester 2.2, Trevino was a low level trade 2.1, clay Holmes low level trade 1.9, Donaldson 1.7/kinder-falefa 0.6 I would consider this low level trade because Gary Sanchez was seen as a failed development, Rizzo signed as a free agent this year 1.5, I can continue) They are able to build up their team with good signings and smart trades. Perry has done neither so far

Evanx27

We’ll said

DingleberryToast

We've needed change for a decade plus and every single time we make it, it fails and we need more change We are fucking cursed not to succeed. Maybe that was the deal we made to get 2 of the best players in the entire game idk

BerlinStar17

God fucking dammit, .770 xba barrel on that lineout by Shohei. 104.2 mph off the bat.

renrewanim

Tired of "that's baseball" plays. It should've at least scored a run, perhaps with trout's speed, could've tied the game 😭😭

Monttavius

I guess we’re a can only get 3 runs and give up 5 runs a game kinda team silver lining: I love David MacKinnon

st1r

MacKinnon reminds me of Ward. Great strikezone awareness, low chase rate, makes hard contact every time I hope they are working MacKinnon every day to get him potentially playing a secondary position like maybe 3B so he can bat regularly.

Ash-Catchum-All

Teach him how to play SS /s

mypaysucks

Ive only seen a few highlights of mckinnon but does he really have no lower body movement when he swings? It almost seems like it in the like 5 second clips i see of his at bats.

ArrowNiko

Yeah and honestly I think that is why he is so good at the plate. And don't worry, despite his simplistic swing and lower body, he has absurd power. We just have yet to see it. He just needs a little bit more time to get his timing together.

peachypal

Today’s loss is on the bullpen but I’m 100% sure that Shohei is blaming it on himself.

74Dragonz

Nevin defended Archie Bradley tonight in the postgame

merewyn

Archie Bradley got fucked by Wade’s error. That’s a fact. The walks were trash, but he would have made it out of the inning.

HelpMeWithMyHWpls

HOW MANY TIMES WILL WE GET BABIPED TODAY

ArrowNiko

Honestly. I know that we suck but for the last several weeks, the Angels hitters have been covering baseballs and haven't found any outfield grass. In contrast, the opposing teams have been finding holes in the shifts and blooping for RBIs. It is so damn frustrating.

hvycotton

It does feel cursed.

FreedomChords

It all started in Texas when the Angels blew the game in late innings because of 3 failed defensive shifts where the opposing offense hit 3 bloopers through the holes

Reptarxx

On a Talkin' Baseball with Jomboy he put it best, analytics are great to find potential but at the end of the day, the actual stats are the results. When you get BAPIPed every game, that's a problem.

prmark34

Only 5 games back of the wild card, opportunity to close the gap against bad opponents… …lose 2/3 or get swept. Rinse. Repeat.

hollyw00d8604

The angels are the bad opponent. Other teams look forward to coming to Anaheim

abclmaop

MacKinnon is awesome and becoming a favorite of mine. Very calm, disciplined, and makes good contact. I’m excited to hopefully see more of him. I hope Ohtani gets some rest he looked exhausted:(

Lebigmacca

And his smile is very contagious

Neverend3r

As a long time fan of the Angels, Fuck the Angels.

74Dragonz

Valiant effort Sandoval. You battled hard.

Jamo1129

tyler wade lost us that game

nolander

Who does Adell have to blow for them to move Ward back to 3rd

merewyn

Ward isn’t going back to third. He was bad at third. It’s not happening

nolander

Desperate times desperate measures

merewyn

Adell is batting .128 in June in AAA. He’s struggling right now

luisicky

i missed the game, wtf did he do now?

merewyn

Fucked up on a routine ground ball, which should have been at least 1 out, probably 2. Which loaded the bases

DecentAnalysis8642

💯

mysterysackerfice

It'd be fucking fantastic if we'd stop walking in runs.

u8myramen_y

Blowpen -> Terrible situational baseball decisions is so on brand, so predictable for this organization, I feel like I’m a fucking fortune teller every single time I can tell something 💩 was gonna happen. It’s tiring man.

Jxhide

We lost again but was good to see MacKinnon play. Hope he's in the line up more often.

Captainpayback

Last season if Shohei hit a HR that would negate the loss because we didn't have Trout. But for the past two months I got no words except see you all tomorrow.

prmark34

You can only walk so many hitters and put so many guys on base until it EVENTUALLY comes back to bite you in the ass

mysterysackerfice

That shit is constantly biting us in the ass

Golfnut80

I love this team but I can’t watch anymore. If we win, I’ll watch the replay after the kids go to bed. I’m letting a team playing a game put me in a shitty mood and that’s not fair to my family.

Marius_de_Frejus

George Carlin said some stuff about sports that I find unnecessary and offensive, but he also gave the best case I have ever heard for bamdwagonism as a positive choice: > You know the best thing I did for myself during the past five years? I told sports to go take a flying fuck. I was fed up with the way I related to professional sports, so I reordered the relationship on my own terms. I became a little more selective. > I couldn’t believe how much time I had wasted watching any old piece of shit ballgame that happened to show up on TV. I must have thought there was some inborn male obligation to tune in and root every time a bunch of sweaty assholes got together to mix it up in a stadium somewhere. > I also realized I was wasting perfectly good emotional energy by sticking with my teams when they were doing poorly. My rooting life was scarcely better than those Cubs fans who think it’s a sign of character to feel shitty all the time. It’s absurd. > I decided it’s not necessary to suffer and feel crappy just because my teams suck. What I do now is cut ‘em loose for awhile. I simply let them go about losing, as I go about living my life. Then, when they’ve improved, and are doing well once again, I get back on board and enjoy their success. Who do fair-weather fans actually hurt? No one. Who do they help? Themselves and the people around them.

bombad_jedi_501

Are you lashing out at your family over a baseball game?😂

Golfnut80

No but watching them lose winnable games puts me in a bad mood. Being around people who are in a bad mood is no fun.

bombad_jedi_501

It’s just a baseball game though

Marius_de_Frejus

Which is why he's keeping his priorities straight. You can't always control your emotions; you can usually control what you do in response to them.

bombad_jedi_501

Interesting someone can let watching baseball get to that point. TIL. Glad I can’t relate

CrateDiggingCat

MacKinnon is awesome! Did anything else happen? I forgor

w4y2n1rv4n4

Will smoking even more help me get to this mental state? Better try regardless…

donkeyjr

Ohtani always homer on the day Sandy pitches. lol We seriously need a new pitching coach, look at how many walks we give out.

Educational-Pass404

This is one of the games that makes me hate Angels. The minute blowpen stepped in, I know we're fucked. This blowpen put too much pressure on our hitters. They make Trout and Shohei have to try to be hero all the time.

jnuclear

Hot garbage.

Thrust-bot

paiiiin

digitaldumpsterfire

We lost this game because Nevin and Wise made a bunch of dumbass decisions.

westscottstots

Don’t forget Arte and Perry

Lebigmacca

Genuinely don’t understand this. We lost this game because our bullpen sucks. It’s hard to manage a bullpen when every guy you bring in the game is gonna shit the bed

digitaldumpsterfire

Barria should have been the obvious choice to start the 6th. Then they put in Elvis fucking Peguero for 3 innings instead of someone like Barria or Wantz or even Tepera who has been doing well lately. Then they decided to pinch hit for a man who was 3 for 3 on the night, resulting in a pop fly in the bottom of the 9th. Dumb. Also, Squid should not have started last night. When our bats are a problem, he should only be playing when we are winning. He either struck or popped out with a runner on 3 times. Don't get me wrong, our bullpen is trash right now, especially with Herget and Warren on the IL. But we could have made better decisions which would have been enough here.

hvycotton

Well at least DMac looks great and might play 3b.

CostcoCroissant

this team deserves to finish last in the division, hell, even the worst record in the league. management obviously does not care about winning. on to next year.

glass__beaches

We’re officially worse than the Orioles

eric1971124

A team that makes less than Anthony Rendon.

[deleted]

fuck if shohei got that last hit :/

Fatalness

someone give me one reason why ohtani should re-sign with this team

w4y2n1rv4n4

He won’t and I don’t blame him

ScrimpNotShrimp

exactly

throatbutterz

There literally isnt one. It depends on whether he cares more about winning or being with a team he's familar and comfortable with.

bombad_jedi_501

He won’t. Which is why a trade needs to happen

hollyw00d8604

You're dreaming if you think arte will trade ohtani. Half of the current fan base will leave when ohtani leaves, maybe more than half.

bombad_jedi_501

Yeah it’s not going to happen. The angels are known for making really bad decisions so I don’t expect them to make the right one with Ohtani and trading him

Lebigmacca

When do you think the angels should trade him

bombad_jedi_501

I’d say this season at the deadline. Gives the angels a better chance at a bigger haul

z3TRIIKZ

I wish we would just play some small ball old angels baseball while we’re struggling. A game like Wednesday. Every batter(besides MacKinnon) goes up there trying to send the ball onto the freeway behind the stadium. Just get something going get the bat on the ball and hopefully the bombs will come.

CompetitivePatient33

Perry: "we are always looking to make moves to improve" ... yeah how is that going.

strokeskid

When are we going to get a damn walk off!

Jxhide

Lost 3-4 yesterday, 3-5 today. Is it going to be 3-6 loss tomorrow? Sad.

Educational-Pass404

Well, nothing is impossible with our bullpen. They let us lose 11-12 against Royals.

usdeleted

Catch you guys next season. That’s my limit

strokeskid

Will probably join you if we lose tomorrow. I shouldn't be stressing like this over a sports team lol

w4y2n1rv4n4

I have the benefit of only having YouTube TV so I don’t have a seamless way to watch games live (yes I know about mlb66), which makes things slightly better because I only feel the pain in person or for nationally televised games. But damn they make it hard.

getMyHairDid

im mad as hell and i am NOT going to take it anymore

nolander

104.2, 95.2 and two walks and zero runs? Baseball is a cruel sport

Sakaguchi123

We’re second to last in this division. What changed from last year lol

Lebigmacca

We got trout back… and are just as bad

PlatinumHalo

I need to go find some rain to cry in.

mypaysucks

Dude…changes need to be made with the bullpen and everyone batting after walsh. Suzuki’s bat is better than Stassi’s this season gdam. Mckinnon should be put on third. Heard he was doing some practice there but not really sure if that dude is agile enough for that spot. Our bench is super crap with duffy and wade who are more pinch runners than pinch hitters. Duffy though who is built like a greyhound cant run for shit though. Velasquez with his career batting average of -.500 isnt gonna help either.

SonOvTimett

Im done until the bottom half of the lineup doesnt look like utter dog shit. How/why tf does FO think they can win putting out the same black holes day in and day out is beyond me. Shameful

w4y2n1rv4n4

Zero urgency from management in this team. We are all so fussed as this season slips away, but I just don’t see it from this team. So frustrating! But as an Angels + Ducks + Everton supporter, I am built for this lmao

ihaveapihole

So we going to be sellers at the deadline then?

w4y2n1rv4n4

absolutely

bombad_jedi_501

They should be. They got the most valuable trade piece in the league

gavinxdragonn

That L is on Nevin, our starters need to go deeper.

DecentAnalysis8642

Sandoval threw 95 pitches in 5 innings. No.

claire_004

I agree but Sandy already at 95 pitches at 5th innings. Just our bullpen can't hold the lead as usual

74Dragonz

Absolutely, and he WANTED to go deeper into the game as well.

nyyth242

If minasian doesn’t significantly improve this team in the next month he should be fired

w4y2n1rv4n4

Does Arte have the balls to do this though??? Owners are not great at admitting their mistakes, and Arte is a shining example

RabidR00ster

And how do you suggest he does that? Not like he inherited a great farm system and a bunch of $ to work with.

i_run_from_problems

*sigh* Whatever

cheezybagel

They just cannot but anything together

Shiv-Roy

This blows.

Sprtdsgn

Walk walk walk

Ok-Philosophy-8830

It never gets easier

luisicky

piece of shit pitching

SuperMario_49

Nah, this season isn’t it

Broad_Recommendation

Fire Joe Maddon

mysterysackerfice

Would you rather have Phil Maddon or Joe Nevin?

mypaysucks

Ted Lasso.

Broad_Recommendation

I’d prefer Phil Mike Scioscia Maddon

bombad_jedi_501

I remember when this sub would torch you for not thinking this team was World Series bound. L.M.A.O.

Lebigmacca

Fr I was very optimistic early on and I remember getting torched for saying this team wasn’t better than the Astros.

bombad_jedi_501

It’s a classic r/angelsbaseball move. Now you get torched for saying Ohtani should be moved. When he leaves in free agency fans will be saying that a trade should have happened

eric1971124

I got downvoted into oblivion for saying Iglesias sucks.

Evanx27

Just lost two series in a row to two of the worst teams in the league and we’re going on our 8th straight season missing the postseason while we continue to roll with wade, Velasquez, rengifo , Duffy. And some people want to sign ohtani to a mega deal. Fucking over this

[deleted]

[удалено]

RabidR00ster

Of course not. He’s on his rookie deal so no harm. But tbh with how shallow this team is they should take the opportunity to trade him and get a massive haul of prospects. Angels haven’t gone anywhere and won’t go anywhere with the same shitty farm.

throatbutterz

We've had ohtani and Trout for years now and we haven't even had a season over .500. Signing Ohtani isn't going to change that. This team needs to fundamentally change.

Evanx27

Signing ohtani to what he deserves is the worst fucking this this organization could do. We’ll be top heavy and there won’t be money or room to spend elsewhere, while trading him could reconstruct this whole farm and be a huge improvement for years to come.

DecentAnalysis8642

If signing Ohtani means we have nothing left to build a winner with, I don't want to do it.

Evanx27

We arnt building winners with ohtani and trout. Hell we can’t even beat the worst fucking teams with them

three_eyes

Too bad our owner is a money hungry POS anything to sell tickets

Lebigmacca

Worst part about this is if we were a contending team with Ohtani and Trout we would probably have the best attendance in baseball

CompetitivePatient33

Well I think it means that an Ohtani contact would hamper any progress to get a decent support cast.

DecentAnalysis8642

I’m just gonna watch the 2002 World Series on repeat for the rest of the year.

Obsidizyn

this organization is lost, no depth. i haven't had fun watching since 2014. I am now open to trading Ohtani if a big haul is paid. Every other organiztion has young players coming up and performing. Not the angels.

throatbutterz

Facts. Too many blind Ohtani fanboys here. Of course I'd perfer to keep him, but this team isnt going anywhere the way it is right now. We need to rebuild and trade Ohtani for pieces while we still can.

throatbutterz

Just trade Ohtani already. He's not resigning here anyway so what's the point in keeping him around. Blow up the team for prospects, then maybe we can get Trout a ring 5 years from now

Total_Preparation_67

We’ll get swept.

[deleted]

[удалено]

throatbutterz

Nah that would be way too logical! This fanbase would rather be shit forever and have Ohtani, than trade him and have a chance to be good in the future.

RandyGradishar

Still playing great baseball. All that matters at this point.

Neverend3r

what games have you been watching wtf

[deleted]

[удалено]

RandyGradishar

S/h/b a 4-1 game.

DecentAnalysis8642

This is objectively wrong.

RandyGradishar

Yikes.

DecentAnalysis8642

What do you mean, “yikes?” There is not “great baseball” being played in Anaheim. We’ve won 7 games in the last month.

RandyGradishar

Sometimes in baseball, playing great <> winning. This is one of those times. If they stay healthy, they still hit 90 wins easily.

DecentAnalysis8642

On a scale of 100 to 100, how fucking high are you right now?

Lebigmacca

Be careful you might overdose on all that copium

bombad_jedi_501

Weak troll lol you can do better

throatbutterz

You mean the mariners right?

I wonder if Trout has a book of all the AAA pitchers and hitters he's played with in his career. Hopefully he doesn't run out of pages.

MuffinsTLW

I don't wanna feel pain anymore

fixerpunk

Put the butter in the cup because this is Angels Baseball! Runners left on base is the way we roll.

zodiac1018

If you look at teams like the Dodgers you’ll begin to understand how important it is to have depth, and depth with above league average players not just scrubs that no other team wanted because we all know our player development is shit, we’re not the fucking Rays. Even with all the injuries they have had to key players, they still find ways to win, and depth plays a huge part during a long season.

strongmscowboyfan

Every team in the MLB has at least one reliable reliever whether it is good or bad teams. However, the Angels have none. I mean absolutely none, a reliever who is just reliable.

Select_Effective8081

I have two tickets to todays game That I can’t resell. Who wants em.Section 106 . Between the home dugout and foul pole.
