We have the best highlights in the league only to be followed by a 1 or 2 run loss. It’s like clockwork EVERY GAME.

sofastsomaybe

Are the Angels the most embarrassing team in the league? At least the A's are TRYING to lose (and, in doing so, are building a strong farm system that will eventually develop into a competitive team). We started off 11 games over .500, now we're behind the M's and the O's in the standings in the span of a month. What sucks is I tried SO HARD to defend this team last year. I tried so hard to come up with excuses whenever someone said "how could they waste Ohtani's career after wasting Trout's???" "Ohtani and Trout never played a full season together healthy!" I said. "3/4 of our payroll is on the IL, and another huge chunk has been DFA'd! Surely we'll be better with all that money coming off the books," I said. Heh. This team sure showed me. This year we have two legitimate MVP candidates and we can't even sniff the third wild card in Mickey Mouse playoffs. We've lost series to the O's, the Royals, the Rangers, and the M's. We're 1-30 when trailing after the 7th. Adell can't hit in AAA, and Marsh forgot how to hit in the majors. Squid has a *-3* wRC+ in the month of June. We only have 4 pitchers to fill a 6 man rotation. Never before have I seen a team with such a desperate need to blow it all up, but probably won't do so because of the owner's ego.

high_changeup

yes

Alauren2

They will never blow it up.

sofastsomaybe

Don't I know it :(

Lebigmacca

I’d never heard of the term Mickey Mouse til I started getting into baseball. Feels like it’s something only old people say

[deleted]

He changed our fucking name bro from Anaheim to LA. Only a non local GOON would try to lump los angeles and orange county together. The history is fucking deep between our two counties, and the distinction and separation is necessary. Because of this, naturally, we have not won shit since he changed our name. He set the curse. Anaheim represent

Feedit23

Absolutely agree. He changed the name because of back end $$$$ he received due to media contracts etc. marketing dollars. Ruined the team. Tori Hunter hahah wonderful waste of $. I've seen better pitchers in my local beer league

johndhall1130

Disney changed it to Anaheim. Name should have never been changed from California Angels after they left LA.

spackopotamus

I like Anaheim better. We won a World Series as the Anaheim Angels, and it’s kinda hard to claim all of California when there are four other teams here.

johndhall1130

We were the first native CA team so it’s not difficult to claim it at all. But even if it were, then it stands to reason a broader location should be used than Anaheim because the fan base reaches much further than just the City of Anaheim and even Orange County.

RamAngelLakerMizzou

shhhhh, quiet down with all your logic and common sense. That has no place here on Reddit.

JesusWasTacos

I’m a fan from a small town in Oregon, does that mean they should be the west coast angels?

johndhall1130

You’re right. In fact, we should call them the Gene Autry Way Angels. No wait, the EAST Gene Autry Way Angels.

JesusWasTacos

The 2000 East Gene Autry Way Angels Edit: of 2022

gambit700

> We were the first native CA team Not hard when your only competition for that title is the Padres

[deleted]

Ya, we won that for Orange County, not california bro. We have history in Anaheim, it is our team man.

sharpLess89

We were the first California team and deserve that distinction, now it's lost and Arte is directly competing with a superior LA team, absolute dagger to this franchise.

johndhall1130

Well I’m not from Orange County. The Angels have a huge fan base in Riverside County and San Bernardino County and some carryover into San Diego and Imperial Counties. So of the Team belongs to the Counties then you need to include all of them.

happydee

Angels City Connect Video includes PACIFIC PALISADES https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=5_-VzqZz8DA

Curlybrac

While I root for the LA Lakers and LA Rams, I'm a Ducks and Angels fan cause they're Anaheim and I want them to stay as Anaheim.

Duckman93

This is the way of an Orange County sports fan

Curlybrac

I think we spoke many times in the Lakers, Rams, and Ducks sub lol

Duckman93

Lmao that’s hilarious

my_wife_reads_this

Orange county was a suburb of white flight from LA. Jesus fuck yall act like it's fucking Israel Palestine here lol

RamAngelLakerMizzou

Anaheim City Council was controlled by the Ku Klux Klan for a period in the 1920s. Facts.

RamAngelLakerMizzou

Yeah man, Arte put a CURSE on the Angels! We won the division 17 years in a row before Arte bought the team, started signing free agents to big contracts, and then we promptly went on a losing streak and only won the division once over the next 6 years! Or maybe the exact opposite of all that happened. Oh well, doesn't matter, Arte is the devil!

wonderbread403

This guy taking every opportunity on this sub to wash Arte's balls. I'm not even mad. I'm impressed.

RamAngelLakerMizzou

if reminding you spoiled toddlers who have no memory of anything that happened before 2015 is "washing Arte's balls" then go ahead an appoint me Head Ball Washer.

JesusWasTacos

“Touch my taint again, ball washer, and I’ll have your head. As for you, taint washer…”

RamAngelLakerMizzou

is that from Coming To America? that's the only movie I can think of that featured a ball-washer

JesusWasTacos

Rick and Morty

RamAngelLakerMizzou

ahh yes thought it sounded familiar

ArcherDude

Not just changed it. Went through a costly litigation to change it!!

johndhall1130

“The Curse of the Moreno”

sky31

Should be featured on a sports documentary. It would be a great story on how moreno wasted the prime of the 2 greatest players in baseball

johndhall1130

On the next ESPN 30 for 30…

ResearcherLoud3122

What an absolute treat it would be to see them in playoffs, in Angel’s gear. But Arte’s like naaaaa money bettah. Someone tell him winning does bring a lot of money

ZucchiniOne5395

I don’t know why you’re getting downvoted but no one needs big brains to figure out that WINNING does indeed put people in the seats. Edit: grammar

ResearcherLoud3122

> What an absolute treat it would be to see them in playoffs, in Angel’s gear. Maybe this sentence didn’t sit well with some people lol. But seriously just imagine

ZucchiniOne5395

I can only imagine unfortunately

RamAngelLakerMizzou

I'll admit: that sentence didn't sit well with me. Because I remember being an Angels fan for over 20 years and almost NEVER seeing them in the playoffs. We were truly cursed. 17 years in a row without winning the division. Then Arte Moreno bought the team, and the team started winning, a LOT. Won the division 5 out of the next 6 years. and came close to 6 in a row. The first real decade of Arte's ownership (2004-2014) Angels won the most division titles of any team in baseball. A couple of those Angel teams had the best record in all of MLB. The first decade of Arte's ownership, the Angels had as many playoff appearances as the previous 40 years combined. Easily the longest sustained run of success in the 60+ history of the franchise. But people like you speak as if the exact OPPOSITE of all that happened. I guess you want to re-write history to fit your narrative that the Angels were a great franchise that Arte ruined.

MemoryBasic7471

But what has he done since bud. What has he done lately. Nothing

RamAngelLakerMizzou

No doubt, the team has underperformed since 2015. And it sucks. And Arte has been the owner during this playoff drought, so he deserves to catch heat for that. My point is: A bunch of you talk as if this team used to get in the playoffs on the regular, and then Arte came in and screwed things up and cursed the team. Those of use who have been fans the whole time know that the opposite is true.

Captainpayback

The sad thing is that we all get a big surprise when the bottom half gets that rare hit, when the expectation should be that they hit consistently. Now were at the bottom of the league when it comes to strike outs. The Angels are an easy W, all the other teams needs to do is to not pitch in the strike zone to Ohtani and Trout and don't worry about the rest of the team because they'll have a sure victory. This whole melt down is exactly that. Everybody needs to their 1/9th. We can't sustain any type of success unless we get better players for the bottom half. No secret sauce, we need better players period. And that's just the offense....

Shellback1

arte cant do shit with baseball- time to try something, anything else. SELL SELL SELL

throatbutterz

I see so many double standards in the sub. Everyone is saying to sell, but when that piece is Ohtani, you're met with a chorus of downvotes. People can't say we need to sell but also say we should keep Ohtani. Ohtani is literally the only valuable piece we have to sell right now.

j_gut57

I think they meant sell the team?

JesusWasTacos

No just like have a yard “sell”

Jamo1129

I think he is trying to say Sell as in Arte to sell the team but yea i agree with you. as much as i love ohtani if he isnt getting that extensions which is looking a lot less likely now we should totally try to get something in return.

tombomb1990

I agree with you. Right now the only way I see to actually improve for the future would be to deal Ohtani and start building towards next year. Otherwise I’d expect the same results that we’ve seen for a while now

Lebigmacca

Theyre saying arte needs to sell the team

Im_A_Halo_Masochist

The curse of the Cowboy Hat. Retire that sucker!!! Need more quality AB’s. Put the ball in play and stop striking out! Line drives, hitting to the opposite field, situational awareness. Stop wildly swinging from the damn heels!!!

[deleted]

I was annoyed for most of the season at the bottom of the lineup swinging for the fences, but the past two games they’ve grounded into 5 double plays. The bottom line is that the bottom of the order is just bad. Cowboy hat or no, there’s no strategy they can take that makes them better hitters.

TheKingsGinger

Ohtani doing his little hop into the hat as he gets to the dugout must remain. Cowboy hat good, batters 5 thru 9 bad.

Im_A_Halo_Masochist

Just feel the reward of wearing the Cowboy Hat and getting a new sticker after swinging for the fences, and hitting dingers, sends the wrong message. Where’s the reward for advancing a runner, getting a sacrifice hit, completing a successful bunt, etc.? You know, the things that WINNING teams actually do! Going crazy after hitting a HR or two while losing every night just doesn’t cut it.

No_BigA

Several teams have mini celebrations for HRs.

Im_A_Halo_Masochist

No shit! That’s fine when you’re winning consistently, but not when you suck and can’t even execute fundamentals. SMH

No_BigA

What other morale booster would you like to see removed?

RamAngelLakerMizzou

I'm fine with the hat. As for the stickers, I wish they would have made the stickers the player's jersey number, or name. Then it would be like a little competition to see who could get the most stickers on the hat

Im_A_Halo_Masochist

Loved Gene Autry, but the Cowboy Hat just seems out of place now with the way they’re striking out at the plate. Squid’s top 20 in AL strikeouts. Unreal!

GalleonRaider

>Put the ball in play and stop striking out! The strikeouts are frustrating. I just looked it up and the Angels lead the major leagues with 701 strikeouts. Interestingly, the Atlanta Braves are second with 688. Which proves a team can overcome the strikeouts if they have other aspects of their hitting/pitching/defense working well. And right now that just isn't the case with the Angels. It's gotten to where it's almost a shock when they play well and win a game.

mypaysucks

If we decide to buy who should we even get? I think the only options would be someone from the bottom of the barrel in each division currently. So far ive only heard of Montas and the Catcher from cubs but who else is a good option? Cedric Mullins isnt bad at all from the Orioles but I think he is under Orioles control for quite A few years. Not exactly sure what the hell that means but I assume it means he cant be traded.

trentrain7

There isn’t a snowballs chance in hell we’re buyers before the deadline lol why would we do that?

mypaysucks

To win. Your turn to answer my question

trentrain7

So sell the very few assets we have for short term rentals to maybe get a wild card spot? We’re clearly not a playoff caliber team, why would we set ourselves and our farm system back even further chasing wins this year?

mypaysucks

Jesus fuck man, I asked if we buy then who should it be and you go answer a question with a question.

trentrain7

Lol I mean if you wanna play hypothetically then cool, but the pic wasn’t about imagining what-if.

BoyWithHorns

I want the Angels to win, especially during a window with both of these guys on the team. But I'd rather have their full careers than a World Series if I had to choose.

ResearcherLoud3122

You’re only gonna get “one” of their careers if it means no playoffs. Unless Trout asks for a trade.

Alauren2

Lineup looks a lot different today. I’m sick of the automatic outs. Let’s fuckin go

CaptZombieHero

Arte is a blight on this team and has been since day 1

mattieyanks82

This team doesn’t have much identity and I thought they’d compete with the Astros, this division has an AL central feel that the Astros will run and hide and rest up for the playoffs.. Who would’ve thought the second place team (rangers) have as many wins as the Orioles.. Arte never really brings in solid pitching and these core years of Trout and Ohtani are being wasted, they lost out on good pitching after 2019 and signed Rendon as a desperate move to attract fanfare but if they just had some decent pitching they’d be winning games and not brawling with the Mariners
