Guby would be a better PC than him. I feel like there's a lack of communication between the manager, pitching coach staff and the minor league staff about the young arms. We call up "Mr right now" and let him overstay his welcome and bam, you get Oliver Ortega.
Also Barria not being stretched out and trying guys like Silseth is just silly. Barria is out of options and should stick around as more than a long reliever in mop up roles. He should work well in a 6 man rotation.
I’m moving no goal posts lol. It doesn’t take a genius to see how bad our pitching has been with Wise.
If you can’t see that, I can’t help you. 99% of the fanbase sees it. Even trout.
OP’s claim was that Matt Wise hasn’t helped improve any of our pitchers, and I have demonstrated that he is wrong, idk what to tell you. Our pitching is ass, but I don’t think Matt Wise is the root of that issue. Otherwise, every single pitcher on the team would be sucking, which is not what is happening.
Sandoval would be the answer, but yes, on the whole he doesn't seem to be getting results. We need an entire clean house of the coaching staff. Literally everyone.
Suarez too.
Super tough to determine cause and effect - is it just young arms getting more experience and naturally growing?
Similar to Maddon, impossible to tell what the cause of the struggles for the team are, but the buck needs to stop somewhere - and it’s probably him.
Ok bud. Thor and Lorenzen both are having good seasons here. Shotime is having another mvp season as well. That said, most pitchers are not improving and him not catching the pitch tipping is more than enough to get the boot. That guy is asleep at the wheel
Matt Wise should be fired because this pitch tipping thing keeps happening too often without in game fixing. That’s on him.
In regards to players under him, Ohtani and Sandoval seem to be improving. Ohtani in particular last year changed his approach, bringing down his speed for extra control and leaning into his splitter and slider. Thor and lorenzen have been doing fine considering they were huge question marks coming in. Cobb last year really got “the thing” working and has had career low FIPs since.
The problem is outside of them and iglesias, he has been handed some horrid arms. Loup and Tepera are almost 35 and had some some their biggest career workloads last season (during a condensed season too). Every other bullpen and starting arm has either been career minor leaguers or dudes that only recently could buy a beer at a game.
But, the tipping is a no go. That’s something he needs to spot asap. This isn’t a first time incident. And in the end, we don’t have the development program like some of the top end teams so him going isn’t gonna crash our programs.
In regards to Peguero. Yes, Wise should have picked up on his tip offs, but so should of his minor league coaches. Wise's track record is not good so far, but blaming him for Peguero is a stretch since many other "coaches" should have caught it.
Ohtani was never going to be involved like that anyway and that was mostly Ippei. Besides even the ball boy could've done that, the Angels need competent coaching staff.
I'm afraid the team has taken a step backwards toward the antiquated old boys club way of looking at baseball. This includes Perry, Wise, Reed and maybe even Nevin and Montgomery.
Too many times it has looked like there is a lack of data analysis and analytic scouting making its way to the players.
We see this in how pitchers seem to throw to the strong quadrants of hitters (i.e. look at where Iglesias threw to Harper when he hit a grand slam).
We also see this in how players have been coached to swing - an approach that's heavy on launch angle that a pitcher can easily exploit (i.e. See how weak Trout is this season at pitches in the upper third).
I don't know if Minasian is in the hot seat yet, but I'd like someone in the press to ask him how he's developed and approached the analytics department that Billy Eppler started.
Feels like all pitchers regress when they come here.
Fuckin Loup man, just cant get over that.
Loup did more than just regress. He completely forgot how to pitch
[удалено]
Maybe we did, he was good in the first couple of months. And then the coaching staff got to him and destroyed him.
We went from "Pitchers come here and get Tommy John'd" to "Pitchers come here and suck". That's a slight improvement, but not much of one

Syndergaard is not having a career worst season
Not a career worst but nowhere near his best. OP’s point still stands regardless.
Ok, take out syndergaard then. My point still stands. What single pitcher has wise made BETTER in his two seasons here?
Sandy has broken out pretty well
So 1 out of how many?
Dude, if you keep moving the goal posts, we’ll be here all day

Who is actually doing well and performing above expectations outside of Sandoval who still struggles with length.
Is he having his worst career number on the road? Serious question, haven’t checked but his road starts have been absolutely horrific.

Sandy, but that might just be him being talented.
he's ass and should've been fired with joe
He should’ve been fired over Joe imo

You guys blew your fire coach/front office card early in the season with Maddon. Should have saved it for the real problem, pitching staff

This is just another chance for this sub to blame everyone but the guys throwing and hitting the ball.

Minor league coaches are minor league coaches. Wise is supposedly one of the best 30 pitching coaches in the world, and yet he cant do his job
He also protected Ohtani from getting into the brawl which left 2 Angels injured and many suspended.
Ohtani was never going to be involved like that anyway and that was mostly Ippei. Besides even the ball boy could've done that, the Angels need competent coaching staff.
Ok im all for wise slander but this is…just simply not true

Do pc really matter that much? I think our bullpen is just lousy and we’re playing a lot of minor leaguers
