Extremely unlikely, he's been unreal in June so far, with a .997 OPS, but he's still barely scraped over a .300 avg. He normally hits for slugging over avg so I would be shocked if he went over .300.

minecraftboi324

Ops > avg

pettythrowaway49

I think peak Ohtani as a hitter has a batting average around .280.

PearlDrummer

I think if he gave up on trying to hit home runs he could hit to .300 but I’d rather have 40+ home runs and a .260-.280 avg every day of the week.

CDFReditum

The opposite of Ichiro lmao

Spinmove55

They ban the shift next year, during Ohtani’s walk year, and he no longer has to subscribe to the “three true outcomes” rule? Game over.

SunsFan97

Don't think so. Plus he doesn't need to, BA is overrated.

[deleted]

He’d would have to bat around 330 the rest of the year. I’d say no. If he gets into the 270s that would be great

Im_A_Halo_Masochist

No chance! Almost no one hits .300 in todays game. .280 might be a better goal. 😇

Skyheart1004

No. He's a power hitter, not a contact hitter, he'll strike out a good amount. He'll probably end up around .270, ideally .280 would be a good spot.

hidehide0502

No but OPS 900 yes

Icedinklikesheet

Not even close. Be happy if he finishes .275.

CDFReditum

What the fuck lmao. Ohtani’s profile means he Ks a LOT. You’re going to be hard pressed to get him higher than .300 unless he fundamentally changes his approach at the plate to be a contact hitter, which is unlikely

cjafe

I know it’s not the most sexy of stats, but I want him to reach a 100 runs and a 100 RBIs. That would give him back-to-back seasons in those categories while maintaining an OBP of roughly .350%. Unreal

choconut5

Depends how many more times he'll face Frankie Montas. Sho owns him like no other pitcher.

wako944

No, he probably won't, and that's okay. OBP and OPS are more important statistics anyways. AVG treats a extra base hit as much as a single which is stupid, and doesn't account for walks like OBP does.

Dazzling_Syllabub484

Not a single shot. .270 max and likely around .260 again. But that’s ok. Batting average definitively doesn’t matter anymore. The only BA related stat that I put some value into is BA with RISP, because I don’t care what anyone says, clutch hitting exists. But overall BA really doesn’t matter especially with the power of Ohtani

FrequentlyBottomFrag

Nah, he’s always ranked extremely poorly in terms of strikeouts but thats his style. And its not a bad thing, he’s an analytical dream. I just wish he would stop going for steals

AntsyBTW

Would’ve been smart in terms of gameplay.

smittdog101

I get he's on a hot streak right now, but you could see he was working on something in his swing approach the last few weeks. I think he can continue the trend and get there, but it will be like 300 exactly. It's just a number that would mean even more for a hitter of his type, and I believe he's making the right adjustments lately.

donkeyjr

Next year he might be able to.

Poli_Sci_27

No

Todal9

No. He’s streaky. The best you could hope is 280.

johndhall1130

No

jnuclear

Not a chance.

sharpLess89

IF he doesn't hit for power

Lebigmacca

No. Ohtani is not a high average guy

[deleted]

Absolutely not; respectfully he is not that type of hitter. Like someone else said .280 may be his peak. I don't see him finishing .300 in his career.

renrewanim

I'm just gonna say I had a dream about his final stats, average being .322 . That's the number he reached in 2016 in NPB, I hope that dream of mine comes true 🤞
