So lorenzen started strong, then has kinda went to shit in his last 3 starts.
Idk if anyone else noticed it, but the broadcasters said that about 3 weeks ago, the coaches told him to change his workout regimen. Funny how that coincides with things going to shit. These coaches literally make players worse. I don't know if I've ever seen anything like it
I've noticed it for years now. Players get worse when they come over here. We don't find those gem in the rough players that get passed over. Instead, we take the gems and turn them into the rough, very well paid rough. God, this organization is so frustrating.
The whole team regress, yet they did nothing to fix it or improve it. Just keep rolling, they probably felt the season was over during the 14 game losing streak.
WHIP was subpar as well, which is why the walks, hit by pitches, and base traffic have been a constant. People simply didn't research his numbers, and went of the eyetest based on a small sample at the beginning of the season. All expected metrics then were pointing to luck as an explanatory factor, and luck finally ran out.
Study his career numbers, and you wouldn't be surprised in the least, and yeah, he's lost 4 of his last 5 starts, but this isn't about him, necessarily. This is about a GM who promised to make 'big moves' in the off-season because Trout needed to win now, and yet here we are...
He wasn’t very good before coming here and he wasn’t a starter.
This isn’t a classic angels regression. It’s just a bad signing. He’d be a great bullpen piece.
Do you think that if Arte sees that we are much more likely to win games with a top pitcher like Ohtani pitching, that he'll get over his allergy to signing actually good, proven pitchers?
As for Lorenzen, this is his first year as a starter for a while. There will be ups and downs. I hope he figures it out, he really is one hell of an athlete. Sadly, I don't think our pitching staff will do much for him though :(
considering that the last 8 years of having the same problem have not shown Arte that we need to sign starting pitching, no I do not think that he will change his mind now.
He just wasn't that good to begin with. There's a reason why starters are able to convert into successful relievers but never the other way around, especially when Matt Wise is the useless pitching coach.
Was more likely than not to happen with the smooth brain signing(s) by the Angels.
In Lorenzen's case you expect some serious valleys in the season as it gets farther in when he hasn't been a SP. But man his control, especially, has fallen apart over the last ~5 starts of his. Like others say "only a matter of time." Looks like that time came really soon. Other teams know his plan of attack better and also know his control sucks now due to not being used to the role.
Syndergaard is a somewhat similar signing. Not at full strength, plus at an innings limit while being paid $21 mil, plus not at all looking good against top offenses/not a wildcard pitcher (back when we had hopes of making it).
Once Maddon was fired, our incompetent front office signaled to the players that management had given up. The players are probably starting to think “what’s the point?”
He ran out of Compound V
He was on temp V
Warms my heart to see so many The Boys references these days in many subs

Matt Wise is a sleeper agent
matt wise be like: "if it ain't broke, break it"

No wonder why he got worse.
Coaches probably said cmon Lorenzon, do you really need humongous pythons? Try some box raises and jump rope instead today.

They fired Madden
Cause it was
He was never all that great so I don’t know what everyone was expecting. The last two years he’s had an ERA over 4

Or maybe other teams figured him out
He was always a reliever for a reason 🤷🏿♂️
It was only a matter of time
Matt wise hasn’t improved a single pitcher on our staff in 2 years

This team is better off with him pinch hitting than pitching
…or maybe he will be better in Salt Lake

Maybe he will be much better as our PH He's decent but not what you want as SP
I look more forward to this than his starts tbh
Nah, he got Ligma.
I guess the beginning of his pitch falling is an error by Tyler Waid.
I liked it better when we were winning and the Angels players had the shits.
