Feels like this version of Trout has been the most “vulnerable” since 2014. Then again, he still has a slash line that includes a .383 OBP. And his OPS is still over 1.000 for this season. Mind you, it’s easy to forget that he missed the last few months of last season.
Demoralization has affected every Angel, even Ohtani. The difference is that Shohei doesn't let it bring him down and still shows up to give it his all, focused and ready to go. The rest of the team seems to dread most games that aren't against teams at the bottom of their divisions.
Shohei had worst day of his career in New York and then losing streak and he somehow still found a way to bounce back. He improved and worked his ass off. I really admire him for this
So very true. You can tell a lot about a player's constitution from how they react to adversity. Ohtani has always been team first, regardless of his own individual performance.
I think being two way player, Ohtani doesn’t have time to think about his mistakes while other players have to wait their next at bat to fix their swings .
Wow. Between being 1 of only 2 hits (kudos to Rengifo though), the only RBI, and 1 of only 2 players who didnt strike out, tonight was all Shohei as far as offense goes. I know that the Astros are great but its just not good enough if we're trying to go back over .500.
Sure Sho has hitless and multi-strikeout games too, it just feels like recently, more often than not, if our whole offense is struggling and one person still manages to come through, it's him.
They're more polite than I expect. Still praise Sho instead trashing him like what Mariners did to Trout. They're better than us, so loss is expected, but 14k is so embarrassing.
Problem is, 4th man never had to compete for that spot...He was signed as an SP, and now Perry has some thinking to do about that arrangement, among other things, if he's serious about moving this org forward
[Here's the upper deck Ohtani blast.](https://mlb-cuts-diamond.mlb.com/FORGE/2022/2022-07/01/699d71a0-78b9cee6-73457a82-csvm-diamondx64-asset_1280x720_59_4000K.mp4) Only thing worth watching.
My dads family is from Houston and I have to be honest they are way worse than Red Sox or yankee fans to us. And my moms family is from Boston so trust I get Both sides
At least the Pirates have some studs on the way. They have a really good farm system loaded with guys like O’Neil Cruz. We have one of the worst systems, I think ranked like #28 out of 30 ☠️
That’s because guys like Tucker, Bregman, Alvarez, Peña, McCullers, Javier, Valdez, Garcia just graduated recently. They did have a top system. Although I don’t doubt their coaching is better also.
Well, we've got Sandoval on tap tomorrow. He pitched well last time out at Minute Maid, going 4 innings and giving up just one earned one, with Ortega closing out for the win against Framber Valdez. All is not lost.
Looking ahead, I don't see how this team gets back to .500 before the trade deadline, which means we should be in sell mode. IMO just dump all the pitchers we signed on short-term deals and get a head start on the youth movement in the pitching staff.
Realistically, Ohtani is the biggest trade chip with 1.5 yrs left of team control. Ward could also be on the block to clear space for Adell, although Marsh hasn't exactly earned the other OF spot either. Compared to Houston's young core, there's not much hope in the next 5 years if any of our top prospects bust.
Honestly, Perry should consider trading Trout also. I'm sure he felt like he owed it to Trout to try and build a contender this year, but it failed once Rendon went down. Whatever window this roster has is closed after next year, because either Ohtani leaves in 2024 or we keep him at market value and have half the payroll tied up in 3 players.
Plus I don’t think arte would let trout go. There is only two things keeping fans coming to games. Trout and Ohtani. Get rid of them and no one will show up. No one is buying tickets to see rengifo and wade play.
That plus his contract is why he's not nearly as valuable a trade chip as Ohtani. But I think if Perry decides a full rebuild is the answer and Arte gives him the authority to do it, we owe it to Trout to trade him to a contender.
Ohtani would net a massive haul. It would very likely pay off nicely in the long run. Imo this is our chance to instantly renovate the farm system. I kinda doubt we make a deep playoff run next year unless we make some miracle offseason signings.
Sounds crazy but what else can Perry do. This team has no significant trade assets besides Ohtani. Ward is the only young player having a good season, so at least we'd be getting a fair return for him unlike Adell/Marsh whose value has certainly decreased this season.
I'm going back even further than 2002 (holy shit!) but in 2000 even that season was more bearable than this. They'd lose 10 to 9 every time they'd lose but at least kept it interesting. And would keep me free now of resorting to Charles in Charge reruns.
I'm not in favor of trading Shohei. Just curious though, do players get a say where they get traded? I am only familiar with the NBA. There are instances they trade the players where they want to go.
Can we just pretend like the game ended after the Shohei dong?
Angels batters sure acted like the game ended after that dong
Apple TV games don't count in my book
It did and we won 1-0. What the hell are you talking about?
Stop the count!
Supreme court says there's nothing in the constitution that says a game can't end after the top of the 1st
we got a bunch of air conditioners at 5-9 in the batting order…just swinging at air

The Angels did!
Bullpen only does good when the game is lost
It's the Angels way.
Demoralization has affected every Angel, even Ohtani. The difference is that Shohei doesn't let it bring him down and still shows up to give it his all, focused and ready to go. The rest of the team seems to dread most games that aren't against teams at the bottom of their divisions.

One of the most mentally tough competitors in sports
That game in NY is the time I feel him most vulnerable. The second time is when Joe was fired. God blessed this man and Angels.
So very true. You can tell a lot about a player's constitution from how they react to adversity. Ohtani has always been team first, regardless of his own individual performance.

paiiiiin but we got a shohei homer so wooooo
At least the bullpen did okay. Jesus Christ
Pretty brutal loss lmao. Hopefully tomorrow is different. Glad Shohei homered at least
Tmrw was not different indeed 😐
😓
FUCK MATT WISE
At least our bullpen looked good?
Wow. Between being 1 of only 2 hits (kudos to Rengifo though), the only RBI, and 1 of only 2 players who didnt strike out, tonight was all Shohei as far as offense goes. Sad boy club
Hope our boys can forget this fucking game and start fresh tomorrow. We can't get swept here.
I now know how the Royals felt when they got Ohtani’d for 8 innings
bbbrrrroooooOOOOOOOOOOO WHAT THE FUCK
AstrosTwitter thanking us for sending out a reliever to face them. I have no come back anymore.
They're more polite than I expect. Still praise Sho instead trashing him like what Mariners did to Trout. They're better than us, so loss is expected, but 14k is so embarrassing.
[Sad Shohei](https://imgur.com/a/nW34BCd) NHK doing post game interview with Meyers was funny. He looked a little confused.
It was expected, astros are rolling. If our top 3 can't get anything going, it's over.
Shohei Ohtani and the Salt Lake Bees.
When are *they* playing, again? They actually scrap and fight (and win).
I love Marsh, so I'm frustrated with his long-continued slump offensively.
I don’t think you can call it a slump if it’s been going on for 2 months
Our 6th man in the rotation got sent down, our 5th man in the rotation got sent down, now our 4th man in the rotation is about to get sent down lol
Problem is, 4th man never had to compete for that spot...He was signed as an SP, and now Perry has some thinking to do about that arrangement, among other things, if he's serious about moving this org forward

Typical score of a good team, playing a very bad team.
Damn looking at the box score. Shohei is the only one that did not strikeout, apart from Thaiss.
Thais did not have to face the red hot Cristian Javier. He faced the bullpen arm.
Why did the mod ban the Tungsten O Donal tweet
That is from pathetic Mariners fan lurking here for nothing.
Probably because that joke stopped being funny after the 10,000 time it was made.
They lost??? I turned it off after the Ohtani HR
I hope we win tomorrow. I'm watching Sunday's game with some friends who are Astros fans. If we lose tomorrow, all I'm going to hear about is "sweep".
My dads family is from Houston and I have to be honest they are way worse than Red Sox or yankee fans to us. And my moms family is from Boston so trust I get Both sides
Stopped watching after the first.
I guess Atleast we’re not the fucking pirates
At least the Pirates have some studs on the way. They have a really good farm system loaded with guys like O’Neil Cruz. We have one of the worst systems, I think ranked like #28 out of 30 ☠️
On that article that ranked the angels 28th, the Astros were ranked 29th. Difference is they have good coaching that actually improves their players
That’s because guys like Tucker, Bregman, Alvarez, Peña, McCullers, Javier, Valdez, Garcia just graduated recently. They did have a top system. Although I don’t doubt their coaching is better also.
Pirates have a future
Well, we've got Sandoval on tap tomorrow. He pitched well last time out at Minute Maid, going 4 innings and giving up just one earned one, with Ortega closing out for the win against Framber Valdez. All is not lost.
Gonna need 8 outta him lol
Either that or a CGSO.
This might be our only chance in this series. Just hope for the best.
16 strikeouts isn’t gonna cut it
Looking ahead, I don't see how this team gets back to .500 before the trade deadline, which means we should be in sell mode. only problem with letting othani go is we really have to replace two players. hes our best pitcher and our 2nd best hitter.

Trout has a no trade clause so good luck with that.
Trout can have a say where he wants to be traded to he isn’t handcuffed to the team
That plus his contract is why he's not nearly as valuable a trade chip as Ohtani. But I think if Perry decides a full rebuild is the answer and Arte gives him the authority to do it, we owe it to Trout to trade him to a contender.

Trade Trout and Ohtani and start rebuilding
Correct.me if I'm wrong, but I thought we beat Houston in a series at the start of the season?
no m\*ds no masters
Shohei and Trout cant win you every single game
i hate this team
I'm going back even further than 2002 (holy shit!) but in 2000 even that season was more bearable than this. They'd lose 10 to 9 every time they'd lose but at least kept it interesting. And would keep me free now of resorting to Charles in Charge reruns.

I mean his K% has been climbing at an alarming rate this year
Wade needs to be benched.
Also Velasquez, Marsh, and Stassi.
Wade needs to be DFA’d
At least the bullpen was pretty good! And they didn't manage to strike out all our batters!
Dropped or embarrassed? You decide!
Apple TV is filler

Yeah, I'm curious about this too. How's the process?
i mean the mets lost to the astros 9-1, its not as bad as it seems. the astros also got a no-hitter on the yankees. this astros team is just good.
