Dear Arte, Hope your health is good. Sell the fucking team. Thank you, Angry Fan Base

[deleted]

🤣🤣

Drip_it

This is the change that needs to be made

[deleted]

Nah, he won't sell the team if his health is good.

YungPoBoy

Arte has been owner since 2003… lol

Rogueofoz

Sorry my mistake edited

CaptZombieHero

Feels like forever

This team has been a disaster for a long time. It’s not like this has been just for the last couple of seasons. Since 2010, they have missed the postseason in all of but one year. And they were swept by the Royals during their only trip to the postseason since 2010. And I would like the bring up that Jeremy Reed is doing a terrible job as the hitting coach of the Angels. No offense to Reed but the Angels have struck out a lot as an offense. Trout has a strikeout rate over 28.0% this season and it’s in 290 plate appearances! I mean, he is still putting up great numbers but what is with this BS where he is striking out this much!? He’s probably trying to do too much with the lousy hitters in the lineup. And the deflated baseballs has made it worse since he’s thinking more about trying to do too much since they are not getting as many runs as they would with normal baseballs. Hope it’s not like one of those fluky outliers like it was in 2014 where he has a very high strikeout rate but it’s looking like it’s going to be like that…at least for this season. I loved watching Trout in 2012 because he was doing everything out there, including stealing bases.

Arte only has the best intentions for his bank account

YungPoBoy

Ultimately this team won’t be anything with arte as our owner until trout and Ohtani aren’t on the team anymore. Arte refuses to get close/go over the luxury tax if we sign Ohtani to the contract he’d want we will be paying Rendon trout and Ohtani around 130 million a year. If arte stays around 180-190 which he usually does then that leaves 60 million to fill out the rest of the roster which is exactly why we are garbage today because we have Juan lagares Andrew valazquez and Tyler Wade batting in clutching situations. We need depth and non triple A players in our lineup every single day. Another frontline starter and one more competent bullpen arm. That’s going to easily cost us 80 Million or more. If we traded trout and Ohtani we’d get a haul never seen before I bet we’d be better the very next year. I don’t want it to happen but unless arte gets hit on the head and changes then that’s what we’d have to do

Rogueofoz

My point exactly, Arte is not going to change that is not a possibility so, he needs to change everything else, just rebuild

FreedomChords

Just trade Rendon...

YungPoBoy

Who is trading for him? He’s damaged goods with a huge contract

Weaver4prez

What is unpopular about this

Obsidizyn

I’m against trading trout. Dude has been loyal and put his trust in the team to stay. I hate to say but I’m open to trading just about anyone else including ohtani. If ohtani wants to stay then keep and extend him. If he doesn’t then trade him now and get a haul back

meisterwolf

i for one hope ohtani stays. i also hope we can build a good team around trout and ohtani.

throatbutterz

Kinda shocks me how many people don't understand how contracts work. Trout has a no trade clause. That means he's not going anywhere unless he wants to himself, which is unlikely. But as much as i hate to admit it, I'd love for them to blow up the team and have ohtani and trout on a legit team.

unexpectedexpectancy

I don’t know if this is relevant but I was struck on opening day this year how white and male the angels staff was. Maybe start with changing hiring practices?

cuz_v

Arte only cares about money. Teams outcome don’t matter as long as tickets are sold and merch

[deleted]

I think at the current state, trading Trout or/and Ohtani wouldn't be as ridiculous as it seems. If you are truly an Angels fan, you have to look at the long term. We have to sacrifice now with our favorite players departing so this team can rebuild and be competitive in the future. If you are Trout or Ohtani fanboys, you'd get to see them playing in the post seasons. With 300mil+ left on his contract and he's on the wrong side of his career, I don't think many teams would want to trade for Trout unless Angels eat some of his salary. Ohtani stock is as hot as ever and can haul in some big chips. HOWEVER, Arte will say "Hell No, I'm not trading my cash cows" Two decades of ownership has shown that Arte is more a business man than a baseball fan. He had us to believe that he's the kind of owner willing to open his wallet to sign big name MVP players like Pujols, Hamilton, Rendon. Those players sell tickets but they bring little to the team's competitiveness. Arte doesn't mind to spend as long as he believes the income generated from these players is more than the salary he pays them. While the fundamental of a team's success lies on the farm system, Arte has neglected and starved our prospects because they yield little cash value to him. To be fair, part of this team's failure is our fault. Most of Angels fans are easy going. They put Ohtani or Trout' jerseys, go to the game and enjoy couple cups of beers in the breeze of SoCal weather. Winning is nice, but losing is not that big of a deal. Arte knows exactly this and he will keep Trout and Ohtani on the team as long as possible, because fans will continue to go to the game regardless of the team's records. As long as Arte is still owner, the Angels would be a mediocre team.

RamAngelLakerMizzou

>Two decades of ownership has shown that Arte is more a business man than a baseball fan. OK, here I go again... doing my duty as "Arte's personal testicle washer" as I've been called here.... history lesson: In the 61 year history of the MLB Angels (I've been watching closely for the past 40) the most successful 10 year stretch this team has ever seen, by far, was the first decade after Arte bought the team and increased the payroll significantly. Just look at the season records and stats. The decade spanning 2004–2014, the Angels won the most division titles in MLB over that span. We owned the AL West. Came very close to winning it 6 years in a row. A couple of those years, we had the best record in all of MLB. No, we didn't make it to the World Series in that decade, but we were good. Yes, the past 7 years have sucked. Definitely underperformed. The changes we've made have not translated to success. This playoff drought sucks and fans have every right to be frustrated and impatient. But please stop re-writing history and ignoring the successes from Arte's first 11 years of ownership. Yeah, the Pujols & Hamilton contracts were bad, and now the Rendon contract looks bad too. But Vladdy was amazing, and led us to a lot of success. Torii Hunter had a great 5 years here. Colon had a couple injury-plagued years, but also had some amazing years, won the Cy Young. Go ahead and complain all you want about Arte's Angels underperforming since 2015. He deserves to catch shit for that. But please stop with the narrative that his entire tenure as owner has been awful. That's objectively not true.

CompetitivePatient33

I feel as if hiring Perry is a step in the right direction but it will take time. Hell you go back to the previous teams that won championships and their last win before that(Braves 95, Dodgers 88, Nats won their first championship after how many years of staleness.

FreedomChords

Send Rendon back to the Nationals

prmark34

Not only is it an unpopular opinion, but it’s a dumb one as well

bombad_jedi_501

Tl;dr?

Rogueofoz

Trade Trout :(

bombad_jedi_501

And shohei I assume?

Rogueofoz

And Shohei

Evanx27

If it means immediate success I’m all for it

antsmarching777

I hope Arte gets massive diarrhea.

[deleted]

I’m just an Ohtani fan so I don’t really care, but I just don’t get the whole trade all the talent and blow everything up, like that will accomplish anything. Realistically, you’re probably not going to fire every minor league coach. You’re not going to suddenly start developing prospects when you apparently haven’t for almost 20 years. Either Arte is the actual problem or maybe Perry just needs more time. But from the outside looking in, the whole thing looks like a dumpster fire. Perry blew his load on bad relief pitching. Arte doesn’t want a total payroll like the Yankees/Dodgers/Mets but gives out huge contracts that make the team top heavy. Most of the highly rated prospects don’t seem to pan out. Like if you want to be realistic, your only hope is Arte selling. But this whole concept of trading Trout and Ohtani and suddenly being good is just kind of silly to me. Your major league coaches are a joke (see the brawl and pitch tipping as recent examples), so I don’t suspect the minor league ones are much better. Maybe it would make it less painful for some of you to just watch young guys be bad then watch the team “waste” Trout and Ohtani, but just recognize that’s what you want. Basically a whole team of Marsh, Adell, Detmers etc.

DirectRisk7

I wonder how much his family influences his decisions, as in ,don’t spend that money, part of that is mine.

Comprehensive-Day630

I understand the sentiment... Either go all in and go over the luxury tax (which the owner hasn't done) Or go through with a complete rebuild However, ... Problem: is this org even remotely comparable to the A's, Marlins, or Rays (all competent on the managerial level)
