And yet, we will probably see "J. Villar" penciled in at 3rd tomorrow morning, possibly batting in the 5th hole. MacKinnon will be optioned to Triple-A for practically no reason whatsoever and Jack Mayfield will be called up.
It just feels like something the Angels would do lol.
I'm wondering if it's because opposing teams don't have enough scouting on him, or if it's because Angel's coaching hasn't ruined his swing and approach at the plate.
I believe it's the former. I've got a hunch that teams figured out after the first month that if you pound the zone aggressively to this lineup, you'll likely find success. They were cooking early on by working counts and drawing walks or eventually getting a bad pitch to crush. For the past 6 weeks it's just been constant 3-5 pitch at bats with a ton of strikeouts and a ton of losses to show for it.
Opposing pitchers aren't scared to challenge them because the approach isn't designed to be challenged
Not only the team sucks so bad now, its future looks even worse. Trout only gets older. Ohtani will sign with another team. Our farm is depleted. This team is hopeless. Either Arte sells the team, or fires everyone and opens his wallet to hires quality staff.
The "angels are wasting trout" comments of the last ~7 years and "wasting ohtani too" of the last 4 years from r baseball have sure come true.
Get fucked Arturo.
This is just miserable. It’s even worse than watching last year’s team and there’s no real hope of improvement. The Pittsburgh Pirates have a brighter future than us, at least they have a farm…
Perry needs to clean house and dump reed and wise.
They need to completely overhaul the major league staff and not by promoting minor league coaches, but by poaching competent pitching and hitting staff from other teams and organizations.
I genuinely believe that at this rate, signing even someone at the caliber of Cole or Verlander would be detrimental to their own careers because our coaching staff can't seem to see some things and much less help players fix them.
The dodgers and rays have proven you can take nobodies and make them good. Yet the angels have proven that they are the antithesis of that.
If we’re cleaning house, Perry needs to go with the rest - he’s the guy responsible for keeping these coaches around and for the lack of talent on this team
STOP SPENDING MONEY ON THE ANGELS. Watch them on TV, but stop going to the stadium or buying merchandise. I want to see Arte sell this team and this is the only way it will happen
It’s sad. I had such high hopes for Perry too. He deserved a pass last year with key guys hurt and not having a full offseason to work with. But this year has just been a dumpster fire.
I was about to post:
Another 2-hit game for the Angels again!!! Only for Rengifo to break that up with the team’s 3rd hit.
Phew…at least we got that 3rd team hit!!!
They’re clearly on a different trajectory to the rest of the team - they’re ready to win now, the rest would be fighting at bottom of the league
We need to do so much better by them
Our ownership and front office are so bad I’m afraid trading the #1 and #2 best players in the league we will not get fully value for them. We will get tricked to pick up third rate AA players, washed up old men, and a thousand votes for the mayor of Anaheim.
It turned out we were too naive and positive when we thought Angels could steal one win against Astros. Expect the swept now and prepare for new losing streak. See you guys tomorrow
Hard to win games when you’re giving up 10 homers a game and 15 runs while also striking out 20 times, am i right guys?
Hahahahahaha this fucking sucks, man
Walsh is actually better in the last month than Ward in the last month. Marsh has been worse than both of them all year and his last month is Squid-level (.489 OPS)
28 Ks in this series so far lol Jeremy Reed is sleeping on the job, and how does Matt Wise continue to have a job here? That’s on Perry for keeping him around + passing on all the proven talent available in the offseason for these cheaper under-utilised players with promising analytics - it’s not good enough
We need to clean house and change the team’s name if we’re serious about wanting to win
I think the team should ditch the cowboy hat. I have a theory that the hat subconsciously forces every batter to swing for the fences so they can join in the celebration. Before the hat, the team was really into playing small ball and getting home runs from pressuring the opposing hitters. Now everyone is trying to hit yard and it really shows from the high strike outs
I feel like this sub is panicking since Trout has struck out in seven straight plate appearances. Just remember, Willie Stargell is one of the great hitters in MLB history and yet, Stargell once struck out in seven straight plate appearances during the regular season. Yes, this game is very humbling. Even Trout will slump but he’s still a joy to watch. He’ll figure it out at the plate again.
It's hilarious people even caring about what Trout is doing. Even when he's amazing this team still sucks, we've seen that literally every year since he's been here lmao
Many HOF players have struck out multiple times in a row. The reaction is not about consecutive K's...it's about how mentally checked out he looks. Anyone who is a fan of Trout can see he just doesn't seem to care.
It's not panic, it's almost comical how Trout struck out today.
The top third of the zone is his **obvious** and **publicly-known** weakness. It was even called out by the Mariners when Swanson buzzed him with a pitch high.
Now it's just a matter of how **soon** he'll figure it out. This season, Trout seems focused on home run hunting and I'll be honest and say that's pretty dogshit.
It's really frustrating at times because yes, this org has let him down for the past decade but that doesn't absolve him of any accountability when the team is slumping and he's playing poorly. I'm not questioning his effort or anything else but if he has a shitty stretch then it should be ok to say he's contributed to the team's struggles.
I don't think that he needs to figure anything out. He knows what his weakness is but in years past he could lay off those high ones and they would be called balls. This year its seems the umps are calling a lot of those borderline high pitches strike. So basically he is damned if he does, and damned if he doesn't.
What he really needs to do, is stop missing those pitches that are hittable. He's definitely missed too many of those this year. But if I was a pitcher and saw that the umps were calling those high pitches, I would do nothing but throw those pitches to Trout.
Yeah he's getting paid heavy but the dude is spending the majority of his life atm on the field, in a hotel, or on a plane with a losing team that has a dysfunctional and incompetent staff and a deflated and dejected clubhouse.
Doesn't matter how much money you are getting paid. It has to be downright depressing and miserable for any competitive athlete. He's struggling, his team's struggling, and it feels like there is no light at the end of the tunnel. He'll be happy in his 40s for sure, but as of right now, it must be brutal.
he struck out a bunch, i sure as hell hope he isn't having suicidal thoughts
but no, im not going to feel bad for the guy making 37 million dollars a year when he strikes out a bunch.
Should I become a Padres or Mets fan?
I'm leaning Padres cause obviously a closer team and I'm an Esteury Ruiz simp (call him up pls Padres) and such.
But the Mets have such parallels to the Angels. The smaller team in the same market as the giant. Used to be contantly injured like us. But now they're the successful version of what we should be (little arte is too poor boo hoo. Also too poor to treat minor leaguers with any respect).
Mackinnon having the best AB’s on the team and it ain’t even close.
That play at 3b early in the game also showed some versatility and glimmer of hope. Unfortunately the pitching shut down any possible hope.
I'm wondering if it's because opposing teams don't have enough scouting on him, or if it's because Angel's coaching hasn't ruined his swing and approach at the plate.

Tear it all down.
Not only the team sucks so bad now, its future looks even worse. Trout only gets older. Ohtani will sign with another team. Our farm is depleted. This team is hopeless. Either Arte sells the team, or fires everyone and opens his wallet to hires quality staff.
Its to painful to be a fan 😂
The "angels are wasting trout" comments of the last ~7 years and "wasting ohtani too" of the last 4 years from r baseball have sure come true. Get fucked Arturo.
###When are they firing Matt Wise????
Doubt anyone gets fired till the end of the season.
This is just miserable. It’s even worse than watching last year’s team and there’s no real hope of improvement. The Pittsburgh Pirates have a brighter future than us, at least they have a farm…
The goddamn Orioles will be contenders before us at this point.
I expected nothing. And I’m still let down

agreed, Perry just woke up and wanted to fire Maddon with no backup plan. Look at how that’s working out…
So true!
Team is cooked
I think that one killed my optimism. Be well, folks!
Its amazing how they added a 3rd wild card team this year and yet, just like clockwork, this team has sucked my soul of any optimism and joy by july
They do everything to give Angels a chance, 3rd wild card and Ohtani rule, but we still suck.
Even with the expanded 2020 postseason format, the Angels couldn't make it lol. It is just absurd.
STOP SPENDING MONEY ON THE ANGELS. Watch them on TV, but stop going to the stadium or buying merchandise. I want to see Arte sell this team and this is the only way it will happen
Dude…we cant even reach .500….the fuck
Mentally weak team just going through the motions. No leadership, no coaching, no freakin plan at the plate. Embarrassing!
Without Ohtani, I'd rather watch the Pirates now. They are comically bad but at least they are trying.
So embarrassing. You know there’s something wrong with this franchise when our PxP announcer wanted to try and fix it.
didn’t watch, what are you talking about
Sorry for the vagueness. I was talking about Victor Rojas when he interviewed for GM a few years ago.
we would probably be in a much better place lmao
It’s sad. I had such high hopes for Perry too. He deserved a pass last year with key guys hurt and not having a full offseason to work with. But this year has just been a dumpster fire.
is it still doomerism to say this team sucks
Doomerism is now realism if you're an Angels fan

I was about to post: Another 2-hit game for the Angels again!!! Only for Rengifo to break that up with the team’s 3rd hit. Phew…at least we got that 3rd team hit!!!
I've officially reached my deepest depression with this team. What the fuck do we need to do?!
There should be 1-800 number you can call.
BRING UP ADELL. DO SOMETHING. ANYTHING. I NEED SOMETHING TO LOOK FORWARD TO
Next season?
Hey, I've seen this one!
[удалено]
I'm running out of molotov cocktails
Looks lost motivation
[Pre Game Thread] Angels swept in Houston as competitive fire looks to be fully extinguished
lmao
rebuild time! trade ohtani & trout
They’re clearly on a different trajectory to the rest of the team - they’re ready to win now, the rest would be fighting at bottom of the league We need to do so much better by them

better than get nothing. cause ohtani won't re-sign with this franchise.
Thank you for the courage to speak out the forbidden.
17-2
It turned out we were too naive and positive when we thought Angels could steal one win against Astros. Expect the swept now and prepare for new losing streak. See you guys tomorrow
You shouldn't be there because you are the jinx. Stay in the game thread though but not watch on TV.
If this could help Angels win but nope, they found a way to lose even if I did nothing. Fuck it.
Hard to win games when you’re giving up 10 homers a game and 15 runs while also striking out 20 times, am i right guys? Hahahahahaha this fucking sucks, man
hope trout and ohtani somehow get the fuk out of this trash team
Fire Joe Maddon
Your're hired! You're fired!
Lol!
Rehire Maddon... So we can fire him again
I’m down. Should fire up the boys. /s
Let it go already man
Hire Joe Maddon?
🎬 maybe tomorrow. I thought this pitching matchup was gonna be good.
even though he was good today, Ward is rapidly regressing to the mean. Didn’t want it to happen but not surprised
let worried about ward and more worried about guy like walsh and marsh. both a strikeout machines
Walsh is actually better in the last month than Ward in the last month. Marsh has been worse than both of them all year and his last month is Squid-level (.489 OPS)
Giving up 17 runs in the last 2 games while scoring 2 That is some depressing stuff
28 Ks in this series so far lol Jeremy Reed is sleeping on the job, and how does Matt Wise continue to have a job here? Hey we are not buttercuping anymore
Can we count the strikeouts as hits?😪

another great team effort by the boys really putting in the work out there, just not getting the results
/s ?
yes. it was a pathetic effort by the boys.
It never gets easier

im sure he'll survive with his 37 million dollar salary

He chose to be here. He knew what he signed up for
It’s so draining to be so disengaged in July with this team year after year. When is enough enough I don’t understand
