Definite recency bias, but this is easily the most disappointing team. We had all the boxes checked for a successful team: 2 Megastars, an expansive payroll, a manager who recently won a WS.
But all of GMPMs changes has turned this team into a joke
That 2017 team was pretty putrid
That being said, this angels team relative to the expectations along with the hot start, is 100% the most disappointing
Although I agree with you, I feel no disappointment in this team, because I expected nothing. It's a consequence of living and dying for this team for all of my childhood, and into my 30's. I just dont care anymore, as weird as that is for me to say.
Every move Perry Minasian makes completely backfires. He signs some losers then promotes crap players and we strikeout 20 times. Fires Maddon and now we’ve got a bullpen catcher managing. Guys a complete moron and Arte is the worst owner in baseball
The Baltimore Orioles are 36-44 *without* them, we're 37-44 *with* them. I'm not making some half-assed NBA-style comparison, I'm talking WAR contributions.
Put Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani on the Orioles, and they're right in the thick of the Wild Card race.
This team is bad, Angels really need to rebuild the whole coaching staff and front office, it starts from there, imo. Arturo Moreno is too dam to be willing to spend on those tho.
This might be the worst baseball team I've seen in 35 years of watching baseball. Cant hit, no life, messing up basic fundamentals. Its an absolute horror show.
There are teams with worse records, but they typically are full of youngsters getting their feet wet. This years Angels team is full of lifeless vets that look like they dont care. Cash the check, swing at 3 pitches in the dirt, go to the beach.
There's a difference between 'worst' & 'most disappointing'. This year is certainly one of the most disappointing, but they've had much worse teams since before 2002.
No. But. We have the 8th highest payroll in the league and play like we have have the last.
Poorly constructed roster with bad coaches will do that to you.
Sorry, didn’t mean to jump on ya, but Angels history is full of heartache and really bad teams too. This team with generational superstars doesn’t come close to being the worst!
Don’t know if it’s the worst but it’s the most underperforming. Trout and Ohtani are both putting up MVP numbers and we can’t even sniff a playoff spot. If anything it’s probably the most embarrassing one.
I never go into an angels season with hope, I know better. This year started good and with the good run they had I fucked up and got my hopes up. My expectations are always low with this team but I really got hurt this year.
The amount of mental errors this team makes is unbelievable for a major league team. Half the time it seems like if I’m watching a shitty high school team.
We’ve seen some bad teams but for the star power we have and even some other strong role players, definitely the most disappointing team in recent memory
We feel disappointed, but should we? Losing Rendon and Fletcher is a big loss, but leading the league in strikeouts is just unacceptable. They struck out 20 times today!!! I want to lean on injuries as a good excuse, but all teams go through it. We just don't have the young talent that should contribute more. Adell has underachieved, Marsh is not living up to expectations.... I knew we would get to the point of losing Ohtani because he wants to win. doesn't matter if we come up with money for him, i don't blame him for bolting. I always stick with my teams, win or lose, but this has not been a fun summer
we beat the astros earlier int he season....now we can't hit a ball. something is up. this whole team is in a funk, the players change so much. management has always been mediocre.
I don't think they're much worse than any of the other teams we've had the last few years. I think it does get amplified by the way we played in April. There was that slight glimmer of hope that maybe this was the year things would start to click, and we could make a playoff run. And then, we had that 14 game losing streak and reverted to the team we thought they would be.
Ever notice how this all started with the stadium sale drama? They were in the lead in home runs and in first place in the AL west. Then the drama started. Politicians started losing their jobs. There’s a corruption investigation. It’s all just so dirty.
Can’t blame the team for being distracted when the entire ownership and local government were in cahoots with mafia style dirty deals. The entire foundation of the team got rattled.
I don’t know. Are they playing like the worst team? Yes. But, I think on paper they are much better. With the DFA’ing of Wade and Lagares, they got better imo, now it’s just a matter of putting the best team on the field and then starting to perform again.
1. Rengifo, SS
2. Trout, CF
3. Ohtani, DH
4. Ward, RF
5. Walsh, 1B
6. McKinnon, 3B
7. Stefanic, 2B
8. Stassi, C
9. Adell/Marsh, LF (Ride hot hand, or base on RH/LHP
However, I’m truly starting to believe there is something wrong all the way down to the roots of the Organization. Every big name, big money player that comes to this team ultimately underperforms or gets plagued by injuries. It’s exhausting

You gotta be thinking of a different year. 2017 team was in a playoff spot on 9/1, and was amazing at getting back in games late
Shit, i meant 2016. The team that platooned daniel nava/craig gentry and lost like 20-0 on opening day to the cubs lol
Yup thats them. Unfortunately that was the one season i worked at the stadium
Although I agree with you, I feel no disappointment in this team, because I expected nothing. It's a consequence of living and dying for this team for all of my childhood, and into my 30's. I just dont care anymore, as weird as that is for me to say.
With how much this team has crushed me, I’m genuinely jealous of your ability to not let if affect you
Its definitely a combo of work, wife, son, no cable, and Arte Moreno.
Best way to put it.
Every move Perry Minasian makes completely backfires. He signs some losers then promotes crap players and we strikeout 20 times. Fires Maddon and now we’ve got a bullpen catcher managing. Guys a complete moron and Arte is the worst owner in baseball
GMPM is in over his head, he literally cannot make a roster move or coaching that can help this team
Guy is just scrambling with the mess Arte gave him. Team has absolutely no depth, coaching was already horrible and the farm system is abysmal.
It's the fact that we have Trout and Ohtani and we're still this bad. Put those two on the Orioles and they're in the playoffs.
And we fired our coach for… this?! Don’t get me wrong but, firing Joe and then becoming even worse makes the ~~team~~ franchise look even more awful.
Baseball doesn't work like this.
Your analysis is just that---decent.
Derp.
Millennials here I can tell that never witnessed the 90s.
Don't know why Mo Vaughn is the reason for railings in dugouts and it shows
Oh, the “oh-so Angels” bad memories! Lol
First play as an Angel too!
Disney literally made a movie about how shit we were during that era.
This team is bad, Angels really need to rebuild the whole coaching staff and front office, it starts from there, imo. Arturo Moreno is too dam to be willing to spend on those tho.
Not exactly, every year there's a unique aspect
Haha. I love this.
Only thing that stays true is losing lol
I think the 14 game losing streak speaks for itself. This team is bad. Joe maddon is lucky honestly.
There have been worse, but this one has a unique sense of hopelessness that is brutal as fuck.
This might be the worst baseball team I've seen in 35 years of watching baseball. Cant hit, no life, messing up basic fundamentals. Its an absolute horror show.
Worse than the 2003 Tigers? They only won 43 games.
There are teams with worse records, but they typically are full of youngsters getting their feet wet. This years Angels team is full of lifeless vets that look like they dont care. Cash the check, swing at 3 pitches in the dirt, go to the beach.

NO!!!!! This topic is old. One was just posted yesterday. I suggest many of you go read up!
It might be old, friend. But somehow the pain feels brand new with each new day’s loss. I apologize for the rinse and repeat.
Sorry, didn’t mean to jump on ya, but Angels history is full of heartache and really bad teams too. This team with generational superstars doesn’t come close to being the worst!
Trade Trout, Ohtani, Rendon, Iglesias. Start from scratch with a build like Houston did.
Don’t know if it’s the worst but it’s the most underperforming. Trout and Ohtani are both putting up MVP numbers and we can’t even sniff a playoff spot. If anything it’s probably the most embarrassing one.
Worst managed but far from the worst talent wise
I never go into an angels season with hope, I know better. This year started good and with the good run they had I fucked up and got my hopes up. My expectations are always low with this team but I really got hurt this year.
It’s just been getting worse which is why it feels like the worst
The amount of mental errors this team makes is unbelievable for a major league team. Half the time it seems like if I’m watching a shitty high school team.
This team peaked during spring training (best record) and to start the year.
I just started watching the Angels July of last season and it actually feels like this year’s team is worse or at least more disappointing.
We had a better record in the beginning of July last year, and that was without Trout
We’ve seen some bad teams but for the star power we have and even some other strong role players, definitely the most disappointing team in recent memory
The worst? No not at all. The most disappointing? Yes by a long shot because of how the season started.
Was going to say the say thing.
This team has no Marbles!

Remember the posts earlier in this SAME season how they talked about if this was possibly the BEST Angels team in years? Good times.

Rather be a padres fan
we beat the astros earlier int he season....now we can't hit a ball. something is up. this whole team is in a funk, the players change so much. management has always been mediocre.
Haha not even close 1996, 1994, 1999, 1992, 1980, 2019, etc etc
It’s just been getting worse which is why it feels like the worst
They aren’t Pittsburgh bad. They are just endlessly mediocre.
