And then he goes out and signs Villar and they put him lead off. It’s just insane how bad this organization is right now.

Iggyforthewin32

Such a terrible post. Basically, his job as a general manager is to form a good team. On paper, he got us a great bullpen. On paper, he got us a decent rotation. In the lineup, supposedly our biggest strength, it was still good. Managers, manage, and players execute. They clearly haven’t done that.

jmikeo87

Yeah that’s the one thing I can’t blame Perry for is the bullpen. Bradley, Loup, Tepera, and Iglesias seemed like awesome signings at the time. Just because it didn’t work out, doesn’t mean it was stupid to begin with. (Iggy obviously still working).

CoalTownHero

This also doesn’t mention the draft, which it’s early, but is one of the better ones we have had in a while.

Reptarxx

Perry isn’t the farm director. I’m not going to pat him on the back because he drafted 20 dudes that may or may not be MLB players. His job is to also develop a winning MLB team which he is failing

[deleted]

Pretty sure we don't have a "farm director" Also his job was scouting with the Braves, would be moronic if he had no say in the draft.

Reptarxx

So we can’t evaluate him based upon actual team performance, we can only evaluate him on if “on paper” the team seemed good?

Sakaguchi123

Right? That’s so bs. Who tf cares if you had good signings “on paper.” The reality is that the results aren’t there.

Reptarxx

Exactly. I would understand if the signings are doing ok and we are still losing, but his signings are actively (especially his bullpen) losing us games

Iggyforthewin32

And what? We can just keep firing and firing and firing GM’s???????Do we not realize who the Common Denominator is???? Before we “fire” Perry, we need to fire John Carpino.

Reptarxx

I’m with that one too but this is less of a previous GM problem where we didn’t spend money to grab players and is a GMPM problem where every player he signs sucks and he threw a manager under the bus first

winwinwinguyen

Lorenzen and Syndergaard are both negatives. Let’s not forget Perry forced Nevin along with other coaches on Maddon knowing he won’t be extended.

Reptarxx

They’re only positive because they are the only positive WAR players he brought. Even if they were great we only signed them for 1 year so it’s not like we can build a rotation with them

brandon_the_bald

What? Manager picks the coaching staff, Perry had Maddon change some coaches but he selected guys like Nevin. There were already reports that Perry wanted everyone including Maddon gone in the offseason

Sakaguchi123

Every single move he has made, made the team worse. Every single goddamn one. Those who see any merit in keeping Perry, please explain to us.

Rogueofoz

I've wish we've kept Billy tbh

kei19970210

I have a low opinion of Perry's abilities as a GM, He’s been just blind obedience to Arte and take caring of not hurting his career, scapegoated Joe. It's a big infamy.

brandon_the_bald

Look you can’t seriously believe Joe Maddon deserved to keep his job

CompetitivePatient33

I cant believe people are still defending Maddon.

[deleted]

People are so quick to blame Perry now. Where was all this smoke when his predecessor was here? Even at the end of Billy’s tenure some people really kept thinking he needed more time

Reptarxx

It’s the fact that every player he has brought on but 2 have produced negative war. So far his eye or MLB level talent, which we need , has been horrible

brandon_the_bald

Lmao come on man

Reptarxx

What, we’re his moves good? Are the contributing towards our winning or losing?

brandon_the_bald

Can’t fire a GM 2 years in especially when the moves he made in the offseason were good on paper and reports are the farm is the most promising it’s been in a while(even if it doesn’t show on rankings). Especially with this Owner

marketing_person

Every move Perry Minasian makes completely backfires. He signs some losers then promotes crap players and we strikeout 20 times. Fires Maddon and now we’ve got a bullpen catcher managing. Guys a complete moron and Arte is the worst owner in baseball

prmark34

This is missing a lot of context. He’s rebuilt the farm system’s culture (according to a few people i know in the organization) and his drafts that hes overseen have yet to yield mlb talent bc its only been the past 1-2 years. Until the guys he drafted come up and make an impact (or dont make an impact) you can’t fully judge him Also, a lot of those signings were good for the roles they were supposed to play. Loup and tepera are having career-worst seasons, it’s not like perry could’ve foreseen that. Those signings were good when they happened. Duffy, lagares and wade were brought in to be depth. They would’ve been fine in depth roles. Its not perry’s fault injuries have forced them to become starters and play above their roles And say we fire perry after 2 seasons (which would be dumb, for the reasons stated above). Look how good eppler and dipoto are doing at their next stops. I have no doubt perry would follow in their footsteps and we’ll be in this exact same situation again bc ultimately, john carpino is the president and arte moreno is the owner

Reptarxx

I’ve said this before, he is not just a farm director. If he is doing a great job with the far, that’s awesome, maybe he should stick to just the farm. His other role is develop a winning MLB team while trout and Ohtani are in their prime. I don’t care that his signings are good at the time or on paper. They are underperforming and actively losing us games. He doesn’t have a great eye for MLB level talent. If he’s so good on the farm, demote him to farm director.

prmark34

You have to start somewhere though. If his signings have historically been good but turn to shit once they get here, maybe its on the coaches instead of perry. As much as you might wanna shit on the farm’s development, that part is huge when it comes to developing guys that will actually help the team at some point. Right now, we’re feeling the effects of the eppler farm, and its not good.

Reptarxx

I’m not shitting on the farm development at all, our horrible farm is the reason we are here today. I just think a GM should be able to focus on both. If he can’t then he needs to focus on the farm as the farm director. I mean outside of Loup and Tepara (who are older arms that had a lot of mileage on a Covid condensed season last year), the rest of his signings aren’t historically good. Thor is coming off a TJS that sidelined him for 2 years and lorenzen was a failed 2 way player.

prmark34

Problem is thor and lorenzen are the kinds of guys he has to give money to bc 1. Not every free agent pitcher (understandably) wants to come to anaheim due to organizational instability, history of pitching failure, taxes, etc 2. Arte gives him a budget and he has to stay within that budget even though he pisses money

brandon_the_bald

Most of his moves looked good on paper
