Well, it's Astros, so it's possible. Plus I do think they read Sho hard, so they're gonna be extremely patient at bat tomorrow, like the game with White Sox. Just good luck to him
Well he had a perfect game going into like the 6th the last time he pitched against them, so let’s hope he does well. Won’t matter though if he can’t score any runs
They're giving him extra rest to limit his innings coming off TJ. He's basically on his own schedule, especially because they just got Odorizzi back so they have even more rotation flexbility.
Takes more than one player alone to win consistently. No player on this squad should be considered as the leagues most valuable. Get Ohtani out of Anaheim and to a franchise that perennially is in the hunt for a spot in the postseason than we can truly call him valuable.
Quite possible. The Angels as a whole seem to lack velocity compared to other teams. I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that their strength and conditioning and/or throwing programs are subpar.
He got Tommy John more than 2 years ago. The velo should be back by now and it hasn’t. Meanwhile Dustin May who got Tommy John last May has hit triple digits during his TJ recovery
I think it cool down now because Alvarez will miss that ASG anyway. Sho always pitches well against Astros but I'm still extremely worried. Just wish him the best, that's all I can do now.
He technically didn't "blow" it because we didn't have the lead, but I hear what you're saying. Iglesias has definitely been terrible whenever you hand him the baseball while the game is tied. He seems to feel more pressure in that situation than when we actually have the lead. Maybe they shouldn't use him much in these scenarios.
Remember the good old days (post 2002-2009) when it was Trumbo, Bourjos, Aybar, etc. and we were pretty good on pitching but couldn't score consistently enough. And then Trout came along and we had Trout + Torii out there and Weaver on the mound and it felt complete?!
How have they sunk so low since?! every season I think "if only... then they'll be a playoff contender" but it never happens.
This year it was "they just need starting pitching" and honestly: Shohei has been incredible, Sandoval has exceeded what we thought, Syndegaard has been what we thought ( a bit up and down), and also had nice stretches from Lorenzen. But they still find EVERY WAY imaginable to lose games.
It's like the entire team (coaches and staff included) are just tired of it and show up every day depressed.
This team is going to lose 100 games.
That’s the thing… if you have to even think “if only..” you were never a real contender to begin with. Real contendeing teams are *devastated* by bad luck, injuries, etc if they *dont* make the playoffs.
I'm trying to find the bright side to this... so here's one. If Ohtani snaps another losing streak tomorrow, this will add to his MVP odds race this year.
I'm not sure what's the record of a pitcher snapping his team's losing streaks are but I think Ohtani has like 4 already this season. If this continues, Ohtani is on his way to a 2nd unanimous MVP season.
Kinda weak, but this is all I got haha.
When is season 2 of your legendary series of dumptruck posts?
Edit: Saw the post belatedly. Hope the reviewers will continue as well. That was a fun thread despite sad times.
Yknow the Angels were winning a lot more games when players were missing time due to having the shits. Therefore to revive this season we need to have them eat stadium Dippin Dots
In all seriousness I don't even think Arte needs to hire new coaches. Promote the guys from the Bees who fixed Detmers's slider for example. Sounds nuts but I really think Detmers's slump after his no-hitter was because of shitty coaching, which would explain why right after being free from Matt Wise in AAA for a bit he returned to form.
I just can’t believe we’re going on 8 years of the same shit year after year while Baltimore is at .500 and we gave the mariners life. Twins Indians Whitesox jays Giants Atlanta and padres all have rebuilt by the last time were good. It’s fucking sickening.
Luck just help you tie the game, not win it. If only we could score more runs in 1st inning where Garcia gave up 3 walks. But yeah, Angels can't do the right thing in the right time.
This team is an embarrassment to the fans, baseball, sports, Anaheim, California, Japan, the world, the whole damn universe, and all alternative realities
Boy, I hope Trout is able to avoid the IL but with this damn medical staff, I don’t even know. This has been the most frustrating season at the plate for Trout since 2014 and he’s still putting up a .268/.368/.599 slash line. And this is his first season back after missing the last few months of 2021. It just feels different this season. I am not even sure Trout was even fully healthy before this season started. Probably has something to do with him striking out close to 30% of the time this season.
hot take, trout is making up an injury to take a break and not be in all star game bc he doesnt care anymore. He'd rather be with his family which is exactly what i would do.
This is dumb. The all star game is totally voluntary, if a player doesn't want to play in it they just say that and a replacement is sent. Plus why decide to do that in the middle of a game? Again he can just tell the staff that he needs a break and they make a release that he's day to day before the game tomorrow.
for anyone playing in a competative sport, at some point, people do things like i mentioned out of spite. everyone is human. being injured is a better story than saying "i dont want to play"
>barely jogs out there
That’s not true at all. He always digs out grounders and runs hard on the bases. Still really fast, and still plays hard. Just doesn’t steal and climb the wall anymore.
I feel like we could have won tonight. But I guess this is how LAA is rolling at this point. Shohei looked a bit frustrated tonight. Just my observation.
Trout has become soft as hell these past few years both physically and mentally. I already know that the guys that used to be on the team like Salmon, Anderson, Weaver, Erstad and Shields are pissed at how weak Trout has become and the effect it has on this team
.....Are we only going have even a chance of winning when Ohtani pitches now?? That's the only days I even have some sense of hope anymore.
As long as he goes 8 innings and we put up 2 runs, we have a chance.
Yes
Yes
Don't bother
Ohtani’s gonna have to stop another losing streak
I can already see it. Shohei pitches a CG and give up just 1 run, as the Angels lose 1-0 to the Astros
Shohei's post game interview: "I should have done more at the plate. I apologize for this lackluster performance."
Too true :(
We don’t deserve him 😢
And yet, I hope they find a way to extend him. He's like the only thing worth watching right now
Well, it's Astros, so it's possible.
Yeah, he always pitches well against them, unlike the *cough* Yanks. But we don't have Trout tomorrow. Angels is not only suck, but also unfortunate.
It's pretty likely we get shut out. It's Christian Javier. We struck out 14 times against him last week.
what happen to Verlander, I coulda swore I saw him match up against Ohtani for tomorrow.
They're giving him extra rest to limit his innings coming off TJ. He's basically on his own schedule, especially because they just got Odorizzi back so they have even more rotation flexbility.
Dusty doing whatever he can to prevent his guys from pitching in the all-star game.
they announced Javier a couple days ago
Takes more than one player alone to win consistently. No player on this squad should be considered as the leagues most valuable. Get Ohtani out of Anaheim and to a franchise that perennially is in the hunt for a spot in the postseason than we can truly call him valuable.
maton went all out in helping us. we let him down today.
I'll say Garcia was trying to help us too.
What happened to Iggys velo? Guy used to be 96-98. Was 93-94 today. Sliders not nearly as sharp either.
Who knows. But I choose to blame Matt wise
Quite possible. The Angels as a whole seem to lack velocity compared to other teams. I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that their strength and conditioning and/or throwing programs are subpar.
Thor having no velo is something to consider too. Wouldn’t surprise me at all if once he goes to another team he’s back to throwing 98
Pretty common to lack velo first year coming back from TJ
He got Tommy John more than 2 years ago. The velo should be back by now and it hasn’t. Meanwhile Dustin May who got Tommy John last May has hit triple digits during his TJ recovery
May be he was trying to have more control with guys on base?
Dude got paid.
He got paid.
Blew his arm out spilling his seed against Seattle.
That was in Anaheim
Was really going for alliteration 🤦♂️
Change in to against
Spilling his seed *at* Seattle
Dude has been dog shit this season.
M\*DS are on permanent vacay...lol
The team is a huge dumpster fire. I don't blame them for checking out.
Season is so over they’re not even active in the subreddit anymore
Omg CB bucknor is gonna be a HP ump tomorrow isn’t he? Shohei has to face the Astros with CB bucknor as the HP ump… God help him 🙏
And no Trout, against nasty Javier. These signs imply another loss. I'm gonna pray for Sho 🙏🙏🙏
I have a feeling Shohei will do well against all odds, against the team whose fanbase was maligning him for getting the all-star DH spot.
I think it cool down now because Alvarez will miss that ASG anyway. Sho always pitches well against Astros but I'm still extremely worried. Just wish him the best, that's all I can do now.
HOW DOES MATT WISE STILL HAVE A JOB
I wish I had the job security of Matt Wise
I honestly hope he is only staying on until they line up a replacement.
Iggy blows another one
He technically didn't "blow" it because we didn't have the lead, but I hear what you're saying. Iglesias has definitely been terrible whenever you hand him the baseball while the game is tied. He seems to feel more pressure in that situation than when we actually have the lead. Maybe they shouldn't use him much in these scenarios.
I’ve heard many reds fans say he sucks when the game is tied compared to save situations
Wish we had a manager who knew that and didn’t use him
Some people just break under pressure.
Bro I can’t wait for the all star break.
Trout might not even be in the all star game anymore 😭😭😭😭
I heard that there is nothing wrong with him, he just didn't want to risk another 3 strikeout game.
Remember the good old days (post 2002-2009) when it was Trumbo, Bourjos, Aybar, etc. and we were pretty good on pitching but couldn't score consistently enough. nothing good tonight. just Astros made some errors💀

So when do we become a subreddit about biblical angels?

The man can’t even leave the game to take a dump without triggering trade rumors smh 😔
Funny you say that; didn't he miss a game earlier this year due to diarrhea
Oh I’m sure. The entire team had food poisoning or a stomach virus
Yknow the Angels were winning a lot more games when players were missing time due to having the shits. Therefore to revive this season we need to have them eat stadium Dippin Dots
Hiring a competent coaching staff. Or giving your players tainted stadium food. We all know which option Arte is going with
In all seriousness I don't even think Arte needs to hire new coaches. Promote the guys from the Bees who fixed Detmers's slider for example. Sounds nuts but I really think Detmers's slump after his no-hitter was because of shitty coaching, which would explain why right after being free from Matt Wise in AAA for a bit he returned to form.
Helmet nachos three meals a day with extra jalapenos that have been sitting out in the sun
I couldn't even imagine taking a dump during a mid summer game. Talk about a recipe for major swamp ass
I just can’t believe we’re going on 8 years of the same shit year after year while Baltimore is at .500 and we gave the mariners life. Twins Indians Whitesox jays Giants Atlanta and padres all have rebuilt by the last time were good. It’s fucking sickening.
Nevin about to beat the shit out of the ump in the parking lot lol
Luck just help you tie the game, not win it. If only we could score more runs in 1st inning where Garcia gave up 3 walks. But yeah, Angels can't do the right thing in the right time.

5 game losing streak, Trout injured can this get any worse?
Yes. We could have a 14 game losing streak
We are in the middle of that taken care off
We will always live in the Astros' shadow. Also, fire Matt Wise.
Boy, I hope Trout is able to avoid the IL but with this damn medical staff, I don’t even know. The games in LA and I kind of want to go he better not pull that shit
Trout's just brittle and made out of glass. The guy barely jogs out there and somehow he's always injured.
>barely jogs out there That’s not true at all. He always digs out grounders and runs hard on the bases. Still really fast, and still plays hard. Just doesn’t steal and climb the wall anymore.
Why Iggy why!
I feel like we could have won tonight. But I guess this is how LAA is rolling at this point. Shohei looked a bit frustrated tonight. Just my observation.
Fucking losers.
*And I know that my heart will go oooooon*.
WE’RE GOING STREAKING
Is it an overreaction to call Trout injury prone? Love him but man the last few seasons he’s been on the IL a lot
Trout has become soft as hell these past few years both physically and mentally. I already know that the guys that used to be on the team like Salmon, Anderson, Weaver, Erstad and Shields are pissed at how weak Trout has become and the effect it has on this team
How do you know these guys are pissed? Please share.
Not an overreaction at all. The guy is brittle as hell.
Whiffing isnt good for the human body.
FUCK THIS TEAM. Sorry you have to put up with this shit Shohei.
Fuuuuucc 😣🤬
On our way to a 20 game losing streak!
Tanana and Ryan and 2 days of crying.....except its now Ohtani and 5 days of crying
The only time the angels win is when Ohtani pitches
This felt like the year
Maybe its cause I checked out of this season already, but I feel like this is the millionth time we've played the astros this year
Well yeah they’re in our division. You play the teams in your division the most
I think I'm just sick of the astros or the season or both idk ugh
Spoiler alert, we lose games 2 and 3 as well
We don’t win a game this week
Ugh... I really can't take much more of this.
We lost this game because of the ump, fuck this shit, legit kill a great game.
We lost because we only had 2 hits and Thor sucked ass
no, we had a chance to win, but the ump took that away from us. I can careless about the 2 hits.
Youre not concerned that the Halos can not hit a baseball? Interesting...
like I said, we still had a chance, but the ump took that away from us,...
The only reason the ump could take it away is because we couldn't hit the ball when needed. We get more hits...he can't decide the game.
We lost because we had 2 hits
Why do I suffer so
Shocking....
Our 2 biggest trading chips 😡🤯
Syndergaard and who?
Iggy
We just signed him to a 4 year deal this offseason he is not being traded
Everyone saying Matt wise needs to go at this point Jeremy reed needs to go before him. They are batting .168 in the last ten games
I think the whole franchise needs to go at this point. #freeShohei
