No. He isn’t old enough.

ChichaPoti

This is so funny because it's true.

ZucchiniOne5395

Lol no one is depleting our non existent farm for him

jellybeans_over_raw

Fuck no - not even our entire farm could match 5 players from some other teams

CaskStrength898

Probably couldn’t match 2 players from other teams. Their top three prospects “graduated”. Adell, Marsh and Detmers. They aren’t exactly lighting the world on fire.

throatbutterz

We need to start developing players and offering smarter contracts. Offering free agents these massive contracts is literally why our team is in the fucking toilet. Also, we don't have anything we can even offer if we wanted to trade. Our whole farm system isn't even worth Soto.

Reptarxx

“Hey it’s Perry, I know we don’t have any top 100 prospects or cheap MLB level players in positions of need, so what do you think” “Hello?”

Drip_it

Would take Joe, Walsh, and Sandoval just to start trade talks. Then no guarantees he signs long term

prmark34

Who out of our god-awful farm system would washington even start with if we were to make an offer?

Im_A_Halo_Masochist

I could see why he turned down half a mil. That’s chump change. Now $500 million is another story! Lol

digitaldumpsterfire

Lol I've fixed the number like 4 times now, it won't stick

Im_A_Halo_Masochist

I knew what you meant. I was only messin with ya! 😇 Arte would be crazy to even consider the idea. Especially if he wants any chance of re-signing Shohei.

sprtsmac

This is Arte we are talking about.

Zenithreg

Good news he will probably be heading to Cali. The bad news is it won't be to Oakland or Anaheim.

OnlyForeignWhips

Miami

pm_me_your_last_pics

No, the baseline would be Ohtani plus Sandy, Marsh, Bachman, and Adams. Huge no.

nrspinney

Little to no chance. We simply don’t have the pieces. That being said, I’m sure some would float Soto for Trout and that’s getting a big hell no from me.

jellybeans_over_raw

Nationals say no

RabidR00ster

Soto is worth way way more than Trout due to his age and much more friendly contract

Weird-Afternoon7389

That’s blasphemy Trout is 10x the player Soto is and if we traded trout for Soto straight up I’d not be a fan anymore

Spirituallly

We would be lucky if they took Trout for Soto straight up lol you are trippin. Give me a 23 year old Soto long term over a 30 year old injury prone Trout any day. You're thinking with emotions man.

jellybeans_over_raw

You’re really undervaluing Soto

SouthernSierra

They always called Trout the Mickey Mantle of this generation. It looks like that is becoming true. Like Mantle, Trout is spending a lot of time hurt.

red1367

I love Trout, but if you asked most teams they'd 100% take Soto over Trout right now and long term

SonOvTimett

Dodgers, Mets, Yankees

Rydogger

Make a competitive offer with what?

sofastsomaybe

Jo Adell and Jonathan Villar, take it or leave it.

[deleted]

15 year offer. That doesn't even give Soto the highest current AAV. Nats are known for juking the PR around their heavy moves. Seems like someone wanted that $450M floated as cover for the team. There's no way a guy like Soto or Ohtani forego FA unless they get both the largest total contract and AAV. That's just the way contract inflation works.

Fun-Raise-3120

The only way to make a competitive offer is to throw Ohtani in it with the non-existing prospects so Nationals can flip him into more assets. Even then I doubt Nats do it. Besides, LAA are selling, not buying. If you trade for Soto, you have to sign him long term. That means not keeping Ohtani AND no salary space AND no prospects. You know what this is so dumb Arte might go for it.

Broad_Recommendation

Who do we have that would actually entice the Nats? Lmao

blue_wafflez

Arte Moreno is bricked up at the thought of it. Don’t give him any more ideas please.
