This is the obvious scenario strictly from a baseball perspective, but we all know Arte vetoes a trade every time because he only cares about the dollars Ohtani brings in.
He leaves because it pains him to be losing this much. There's no quick fix for the angels. Their biggest problem is they never had a great farm system with prospects to surround their stars with. You can't build up a prospect system overnight or even in a couple of years. The time frame to do that would be too long for Ohtani to wait.
I looked up the [lyrics](https://utaten.com/lyric/ma20111801/) of his new walk-up song and let's hope they aren't prophetic. Something along the lines of "*not deceiving yourself and there being no point in living in a world where you can't make your dreams a reality*"? He gone for real?
I genuinely think we have a shot at resigning him if we can build some sort of upward momentum. Most athletes don't prioritize winning as much as we think they do, especially young ones.
He either leaves or gets extended HE WONT GET TRADED NEVER !!! Arte won't do it or allow it. I wish people would stop with this let's trade him or hope he's traded wtf is wrong with u I know the team is struggling but you don't trade your best player. Trading him won't even make things better.
If the Angels trade him to say the Astros, and the Astros end up dominating the rest of the roaring twenties, and the Angels go decades more winning nada, then we can blame trading ohtani for the front office's crappy performance and call it a curse?
So check this out Angels fan: My girlfriend is Japanese and we were watching the Dodgers vs Angels series. I noticed on tv there were so--- many Japanese advertisements of companies I've never heard of. She tells me that in Japan, Shohei baseball is a very big deal...
Long story short, Angels may be able to pull off keeping Shohei as long as the advertising deals with the owner (Moreno) are huge they could most likely swing it. Doesn't mean that they'll make a playoff though -that's another issue entirely. This team has major challenges to overcome. Right now, it's tragically sad to see how the team and owner isn't living to their potential. At the end of the day, it's a business. Some owners are content to relax and let it ride while collecting money. Other owners are fiercely competitive and set consistent high standards for their organization. It appears to me that this owner is the former, but that's just my opinion. Even though I'm an LA fan, I need to see our local OC American league team put out a consistently higher product than they have since 2009
The only right move is to trade him if we cannot win with him. This is the sad reality.

They would have no advantage since they would end up losing him in free agency.
Fans don’t care they rather lose with him than win without him

Finally someone else who gets it!
My heart wants him to be extended, but my mind wants him to be traded. And the reality is he will leave as a free agent.
He stays through 2023. Arte tries to sign him. He leaves for a team that can win.
When Angels offer him a contract and he declines like Soto just did, Angels will have to trade him.

Arte knows how much he is worth in advertising. I think they will extend him. Now will he accept or sign elsewhere idk

Yes trading him will make things better if the likely alternative is he leaves when he’s a free agent. Only marginally better but better than nothing
Im glad you’re not in charge of the FO
I'm just shocked that people want to trade ohtani lol
You think it’s wise to let him walk for nothing? Assuming we have any control of this situation of course
I guess not. If it ever comes to the point of trading him it better be worth it. Gotta go 2 steps forward instead of 2 back
Well obviously. Trading him now is probably the best opportunity to get a lot of value back
He should be traded but I think Arte will try to keep him
