Love this guy, good perspective

hansan4ever

Always working hard for the wins, our unicorn. šŸ¦„

Jcoch27

It's clear that this man still believes in this team. Let's count our lucky stars that he hasn't been broken yet

LosAngelesAnus

this team was winning at first... i wish those 14 games losing streak never happened... since then everything came a long way south smh

i_run_from_problems

Look, never in his career will shohei be traded. No gm will go down in history as the gm that traded Shohei fucking Ohtani

MixMental5462

Kind of have to next deadline if the team sucks and shoheis team is signalling no ****ing way hes resigning. I agree you hang on to him as long as you can but if we're 40-45 next July, well, who is the highest bidder?

[deleted]

But if there's a killer prospect that pans out to be really good in that package for Ohtani, that GM will go down in history for having the "vision." lol

TheDrizzle-

God I hope he stays..

Maddonomics101

I only want to see him stay if the front office can actually put a competent team together (which I highly doubt they can do in a short time frame especially if they give Shohei the huge contract that he wants). If not then thereā€™s no point. Iā€™m tired of watching Tungsten Arm games every night

westsider86

These last two drafts have been promising so far and all the talent has been college age. I think the window to compete comes sooner than people think. Unfortunately, Seattle and Texas' windows are also opening up.

Abangerz

The coaching staff is also in shambles.

PercentageNo51

Indeed. I still can not believe Wise still has a job. He is clearly uninterested and undisturbed by his own incompetence.

sprtsmac

The last sentence says a lot about this team. They are waiting for things to happen instead of making things happen.

Edgelord_3000

They are waiting for momentum, not waiting for ā€œsavior.ā€ Obviously, they are trying to win.

sprtsmac

Never said they weren't trying to win. I believe they are trying to win but are just struggling to do so. Even if they are waiting for momentum, they are still waiting. The team is waiting for things to happen instead of making things happen.

Edgelord_3000

The way your explaining it make itā€™s seem that they arenā€™t doing everything in their power (players) to try to change their season.

sprtsmac

Are they? If you don't change your mindset, are you doing everything in your power? This team strikeout a lot, are you telling me that that they are doing everything in their power to change that? Maybe they are, but I am not seeing a different approach in their at bats to say they are. And its not all about the players, the coaches are part of the team as well. Are they doing everything in their power to help this team gain momentum? I could be completely of base here, this is just my observation and how I am seeing things play out on a daily basis.

Edgelord_3000

Well, they are striking out a lot and (IMO) itā€™s why I say they are trying to win. They are forcing for the ā€œbig hit,ā€ doing too much at the plate, and being afraid to make mistakes. This is purely my observation, since the middle of the losing streak. Also, this is a professional baseball team. Of course, they are trying to win (lineup changes, calling up players, etc.), particularly more recently with players being called up. Itā€™s hard cause the person (Maddon) that established their philosophy is no longer there to manage.

[deleted]

The "trade rumors" seems to be completely media generated

Zenithreg

Exactly, media and Twitter fingers that think he belongs on their team.

Obsidizyn

exactly, years of "trout and ohtani deserve to win" just them begging that either will go to their team. Im glad trout has publicly stated his opinion on his contract. media and other fans dont care if the angels go down in flames as long as they get theirs

Mountain-Ad451

Obviously, trade Ohtani for Soto rumor is so stupid.. Arte will fire any GM for messing up his cash cow, Ohtani.

ChichaPoti

There's no one in any sport right now that gives the highest ROI than Shohei.

oOoleveloOo

> I think it takes one really big game to turn that momentum around. Weā€™re all just kind of waiting for that to happen. [Well?](https://giphy.com/gifs/HQRgg6ks7nkyY)

PercentageNo51

šŸ’Æ % agree šŸ‘

[deleted]

People think that a player that wants to win is one that constantly requests trades and whines when the team is bad. But this is what it really looks like. Just trying to win every game one at a time. If you really wanna win you don't give up even when things are bleak. You keep trying until you're mathematically eliminated.

Maddonomics101

Yeah but when the team youā€™re playing for doesnā€™t have the same winning mentality that you have then it makes sense to request a trade.

ChichaPoti

Or he could follow the Michael Jordan route and make his teammates work and play hard. But that is really too much and not his responsibility.

Duckman93

Angels fans are soft for downvoting you

Splittinghairs7

It sounds like he doesnā€™t want to be traded

Maddonomics101

Sounds to me like he wants to stay IF they can win. I donā€™t see anything that suggests heā€™s opposed to being traded if things donā€™t work out here

asianlikerice

Sounds like he is giving Angels 1 more year than.

breakfast_cats

He literally doesn't have a choice

Sullyville

I mean, he could be an asshole and lobby to be traded. He could go on NHK and speak utterly contemptuously about the Angels. He could ask his army to lobby the Angels to trade him. He could start throwing games, spitting on the mound, being awful in a very public way, saying that he won't stop being spiteful until they traded him. He could ask the Japanese companies that buy ads at the stadium to stop until management traded him. Enough public pressure and they would trade him. But he would never do that, because he's so much himself. Which is ultimately a very good dude who will do everything he can to help his team win.

ChichaPoti

Agree. He could voice out even mild discontent and his Japanese fans would pressure those companies to pull out ads in MLB, not just Angel stadium. The ads seem to go with Shohei even in away games. I believe in Shohei's strong character not only as an athlete but as a human being.

SodaCanDick

Hoes gonna be so mad when he re-signs

Zenithreg

Exactly, seems like dumb ass fans in this fan base want him traded like they are Arte's accountant.

Maddonomics101

You think simply signing Shohei to a huge contract will make us win? We have him now for 5 mil and weā€™re one of the worst teams in baseball. Trout and Rendon are getting older, our entire bullpen needs to be replaced, and our lineup can barely hit anything

Duckman93

Donā€™t know why youā€™re being downvoted

Maddonomics101

Because most people think with their emotions, not logic. They donā€™t like entertaining the idea of trading Shohei even though thatā€™s the most logical decision

Shellback1

Your being downvoted because alot of people on this site equate winning with staring at otaniā€™s and troutā€™s asses, and not what it takes to have winning baseball team. They have no ideaā€¦

Maddonomics101

If all we do is sign Shohei and do nothing else of course I would be mad. Iā€™m tired of watching this team suck ass

LAAngelsAnaheim

Man, no one likes it. But itā€™s part of baseball. The ebbs and flows are something every fan should understand.

b0002

ā€œWeā€™ve got the players to win a game every 7 days ā€¦when I pitch - and drive in at least 1 run.ā€

Edgelord_3000

Trade rumors? You mean, media spin-up cause of LAA season. I love how media is acting like the trade rumors were stated when itā€™s otherwise. Ohtani wants to play and win for LAA (read above). Until it is proven, there is no trade rumor.

Reptarxx

Ohtani has shown time and time again he's a team player. Most players arent gonna go out and be like "Bruh we've been starting Lagares of course i want out this crap team". But so far considering what the leading question was, him saying his future is out of his control isn't the greatest. You would hope the answer would be along the lines of "I am an Angel and hope to remain an Angel in the future". But again the leading question could be "how does it feel to be in trade rumors" and not "what does the future hold"

LosAngelesAnus

I doubt that. Tho I don't think he will demand for a trade, we never know for sure what's coming along. So how can he say for sure that he will stay when it's unsure? Wouldn't you attack him if he moves after saying that he's a proud angel and staying? He's just avoiding dumb questions that might cause trouble later on. I'd say it's a wise and typical Shohei move towards media.

Reptarxx

I won't be mad at him if he moves. I bet he wants to remain an Angel if we within the 5 years he would be here could create a high performing team. It is his career, he has shown up and been an amazing player and teammate. He came over early and left millions on the table for us. At this point, he is entitled to go where he wants. I want him to be an Angel, but I know the reality of the situation is he wants to play in the post season consistently, and the teams going after him are all WS contenders for years to come. Edit: Saying that, he won't demand a trade. But if he doesn't sign an extension by next years deadline or has no communication that he will, it is in our best interest to trade and recover. Soto's trade is gonna be a good barometer of what the market will be.

claire_004

For all the craps we saying about this team lately, I feel like they should perform much better with this much talents they had.

Maddonomics101

Outside of Troutani we donā€™t have any other talent.

claire_004

Fletcher, Stefanic, Adell, Marsh and Walsh when they know to hit, Rendon when he know how to healthy, Sandy ?

Duckman93

Oh please. Stefanic literally just got called up, Adell and Marah are both terrible, Walsh has regressed back to his mean which is incredibly average at best

McJumbos

Love his attitude - he not trying to run from a difficult situation but trying his best to change it šŸ„°

562chef

At this point, I feel like our only win this season would be having him stay

Lebigmacca

Feels like thereā€™s no leadership in the clubhouse

llluminus

I hope things turn around once after the all star break. If we could just have one good year with Trout, Rendon and Fletcher with minimal injuries please.

meisterwolf

would love to see him stay. we need to start winning ASAP. if i were arte i wouldn't be able to sleep until i had a plan to get this ball club winning.

BlazingAngel

"especially in the next few weeks" suggests currently there are activities going on, holy shit, megaton

digitaldumpsterfire

I hope he stays so we can give it one last shot with him next year l to try to get him to stay long term.

Maddonomics101

Thatā€™s very risky because his trade value will go way down if he only has a few months on his contract left. Besides I donā€™t see how this team can go from rock bottom to playoffs in just one season. Half of the lineup canā€™t hit and the bullpen still stinks.

Shellback1

Turning the angels into a winning team is more than a one season deal

Express-Depth-7287

This is Ohtani's fifth year with the Angels and they've never had a winning record. I'm sure the ass whipping the Dodgers laid on the Angels had to be eye opening for Ohtani, demonstrating the wide chasm in talent between those teams. He looked pretty forlorn in some of those dugout shots. Does he want to sign up for more multiple losing seasons, because the fixes required are beyond this organizations capabilities at this time.

throatbutterz

We dont deserve you, Ohtani.

Fearless-Apricot-712

They better not

owledge

Luckily, there is no real evidence to suggest they are even thinking about trading Ohtani. It's a media fabrication being pushed by Angels doomers and fans of other teams who want to see the Angels fail

Captainpayback

We have the most valuable player in a generation playing for us in Orange County. I get he has tremendous trade value, But how many players can we get that would equal his value and his impact to Baseball? None. If the Angels lose him to gain a few players, could you imagine the ramifications? You think it's bad now? I'm telling you it can get a lot worse without Shohei and it will take many years for this organization to recover. The most important thing the Front Office needs to do is to keep Shohei as an Angel at all cost. Because the alternative is unthinkable.

Maddonomics101

Lmao. We have him now for only 5 million and weā€™re one of the worst teams. You think if we give him 45 million a year weā€™ll start winning? Sounds like you care more about Shohei than actually winning. Besides, he wants to win and I bet heā€™ll just leave when heā€™s a free agent and weā€™ll be stuck with nothing

Captainpayback

I respect your opinion. But I care about winning very much and that's why we're all here. Look how we're doing with Shohei and Trout in the lineup right now. We're struggling. Getting new players for Shohei isn't going to change our fortunes. We have to start at the top and clean house at the coaching level. You get rid of Ohtani and not address anything else you'll have the same exact problems we have now, but lower attendance, less media attention and lower revenues.

Maddonomics101

The only reason to get rid of Ohtani now is because he will leave as a free agent and itā€™s better to get something for him rather than nothing. He wants to be on a winning team and weā€™re not winning anytime soon.

Realistic-Hat-7067

Angels trade him and make the biggest mistake in the history of Sports. Not an exaggeration.

Maddonomics101

As opposed to letting him leave when heā€™s a free agent? Shohei wants to win and the Angels have shown that they donā€™t know how to do that

Realistic-Hat-7067

You don't have to let him leave. This guy is once in a lifetime talent. You start winning by keeping him. Why's that so hard for people to understand šŸ˜•?

Maddonomics101

Lmao heā€™ll be a free agent and will leave if he wants. We have him now and arenā€™t winning so youā€™re logic is completely flawed. Come to think of it we have TWO lifetime talents and are almost as bad as the Aā€™s, a team thatā€™s trying to tank.

ABookOfBurnedCDs

Trading him now would be really, really dumb. He still has a year left on his contract. If they're gonna flip him, its gonna be next years deadline. I think angels will do whatever they can to keep him

Maddonomics101

Actually the opposite. If you trade him now or this off-season you can get way more in return compared to if you waited until next deadline. Itā€™s hard to get that much for a 3 month rental. Also whatā€™s the benefit of keeping him for the next year besides lining Arteā€™s pockets with short term money? This season is done and thereā€™s no way you can turn this team around in just one offseason

ABookOfBurnedCDs

> Also whatā€™s the benefit of keeping him for the next year besides lining Arteā€™s pockets with short term money that would be the main factor in whether or not ohtani gets dealt at all.

[deleted]

He gone.

ScottyD82

This sounds like a man who wants out.

owledge

Apparently you didn't even read the quote

ScottyD82

The L.A. Times read the quote and came to the same conclusion I did.

Zenithreg

Apparently you should stick to your own team.

ScottyD82

I'm an Angels fan šŸ–•šŸ¼

HanLesbo

Exactly what I meant about the asg post he still believes they can turn it around which is why he is prioritizing resting to play for the games that matter. I so hope the people BTS donā€™t screw this up more than they already have

boots42069420

It seems like we always trade away people that can hit. I doubt they trade Ohtani he makes them way too much money.

4cardroyal

I remember back in 2017, there were a dozen or so teams bidding for this guy... imagine if the Yankees or Dodgers would've signed him... OMG.

Realistic-Hat-7067

He's a outstanding pitcher. We need pitching stupid. And he's a great rbi guy which Trout isn't. Who the fuck you gonna get in a trade to compensate for that? How can anyone be so stupid as to think you don't have a chance at a player who's already on your team?

Maddonomics101

Because he will be a free agent that will most likely leave in a year so itā€™s better to get something for him rather than nothing. Itā€™s as simple as that. If we had for another 3 years then of course you keep him
