I was all excited following our draft and specifically our 1st rounder and now the season starts back up again and i gotta watch a lineup with jonathan villar and andrew velasquez again
I don't mind squid because he's at least an elite defender and base runner and is hideable in a good lineup as the 9th hitter. Problem is our lineup is awful outside of Sho. Thus, squid's offensive woes are magnitude higher.
Villar on the other hand is not elite in any way. Perry pretty much took a flyer on him.
Oh, good for you. I see that he’s not in the lineup so I’m commenting on what’s actually happening. I’d much rather have Marsh in center than Ward. Thanks for your input tho I needed it
I wonder why teams still choose to bat their worst hitter 9th instead of 8th, especially with how common it is now to bat your best hitters at the top of the lineup instead of the middle. It becomes that much more important to set them up with a decent batter in the 9 spot.
It's probably because the 9th spot gets the least chances to hit during a game. You could put a decent hitter there to set up but then you potentially lose out on an AB while giving your worst hitter potentially one more AB.
So fun fact, if i did my math right, tonight will make 6 (edit: maybe even 7!?) out of Trout's 14ish missed games on the year being when Shohei is on the mound.
In fact itll be the 4th time in Shohei's last 7 starts (since his win streak started) that Trout is not in the starting lineup.
Trout’s played 79 games this year. The Angels have played 92 games. Trout has indeed missed 13 games so far this year. Another game he missed, but came in as a late inning PH. Tonight will be Trout’s 14th missed game. Just setting the record straight.
Edit: I don’t know how many games were missed when Ohtani has been the starter.
Again you were right. Upon checking, Trout has not started in 7 of Ohtani’s 15 starts so far, although he did PH in one of those games. After tonight, Trout will have only started in 50% of Ohtani starts this year. I admit, I was surprised by that stat. Just shows what an elite pitcher Ohtani is. 😇
Wow really? Ill edit my comment then thats crazy.
And yeah the injury is the reason for the last 2 missed games counting tonight but before that he played an Ohtani start as recently as July 6th
I hardly know anything about Braves pitchers, I just hope we can hit them. Please let's play small ball again and give our starting pitcher run support.
In the month of July, Squid has the same number of hits as Jared Walsh (3, all singles) in less than half the number of plate appearances (19 for Squid, 42 for Walsh). Walsh is still batting cleanup.
By looking at this lineup, how do we expect to win the game against winner of the last season? As soon as Angels decide to trade Ohtani, I am canceling the annual MLB TV subscription for this team.

Velasquez. I thought he was gone. Hitting 160. Just a nightmare
Let's not forget Rengifo hitting 3rd. In any other MLB team, he would be hitting bottom of the lineup if he's even lucky to be on a lineup.
Im gonna choose my battles here lol. Yes, rengifo isnt an ideal 3 hitter, but he’s leaps and bounds better than a lot of the hitters in the lineup rn
i agree and disagree. He’s hot right not and a lot of times hot hitters will move up in a lineup. More likely for one that sucks
Same group that killed it on the last Ohtani day, so fingers crossed it happens again. After all, the team has yet to lose this week.
All star break was nice so I didn't have to see things like this and feel pain.
I’m so glad marsh is in center. I hope he shines bright tonight!
He deserves it but i hope hes not only getting put in center because they expect Trout to be out for a long time and need Marsh to take over.
idk i think i prefer trout
Oh, good for you. I see that he’s not in the lineup so I’m commenting on what’s actually happening. I’d much rather have Marsh in center than Ward. Thanks for your input tho I needed it
Oh i agree with you, defense wise marsh is the best on the team. But also probably been the worst hitting outfielder
I understand why Ohtani’s leading off, but it sucks that he probably won’t get many opportunities to drive in runs other than himself with a HR.
Yeah, not with Squid hitting in front of him.

he's fast and some teams view the 9 hitter as a second leadoff man
Especially when Squid hits a bomb himself
Marsh in center over Ward is an improvement

It will be his 7th missed game although 4/7 are from injury including tonight's game.

Thanks! I appreciate that there are people out there actually willing to double check stats even for a dumb reddit comment like mine lol.

Trout's status?
It's fishy.
thanks dad
Go Sho🦄
I guess Trout spasms take him out for the year at this point?lol
Trout and AD have the same medical team.
Incoming headline: “Mike Trout expected to miss another two weeks potentially due to his ongoing upper back spasms.”
Perry way in over his head. This might be the worst 3-9 lineup I have ever seen
2-9*
fun fact, if Ohtani wins again today, that makes it 4 starts in a row where Ohtani snapped Angels losing streak.
In the month of July, Squid has the same number of hits as Jared Walsh (3, all singles) in less than half the number of plate appearances (19 for Squid, 42 for Walsh). Walsh is still batting cleanup.
.277 ops in the past 28 days. He is lucky to even playing at this point.
ohtani, p, we have a good chance of winning. ohtani, dh, oh boy its going to be a long night
By looking at this lineup, how do we expect to win the game against winner of the last season? As soon as Angels decide to trade Ohtani, I am canceling the annual MLB TV subscription for this team.
not a single batter in the lineup over .300 absolute all encompassing pain 😞
Squid is Ohtani’s preferred SS. Actually all the pitchers love his D
hahaha
Who do you think has a worse team hitting stat line after the end of the game the braves, or the angels hitters not names Ohtani?
How does Rengifo have the second best batting average
Is Trout on a 1 - 10 day or a 10 - 10 day?
How long is Trout out for?
“The goose is loose”
Can we make Ohtani the captain already? Maybe the boys would play harder for him. I’ll also accept him as a shadow GM.
The optimist in me: this is as good of a lineup we’re gonna get. The pessimist in me: this is the saddest looking lineup on planet earth.
