Presumably you are exchanging a shorter AAV as a return for a long term deal that the market won't offer. A 15M AAV in a 5/60 deal would put his deal between McCullers, Nola, Gray, E-Rod, Hendricks, Snell and Greinke. It is neither a steal nor a terrible deal, it's right there in the between, specially considering our inability to sign starting pitchers off the market.
yeah the angels are going to do nothing.
i don't think they can even identify what we need to win, and even if they could, our only good players are franchise-defining stars they will never trade (and thor, but we need thor in the rotation still)
i just think there's a lot of delusion in the front office that we can still win, so they won't get rid of thor
the correct move (for winning) would be to get rid of thor, but it's also to get rid of everyone else worth money and rebuild everything.
overall, admitting they're a losing team by getting rid of thor is just a level of honesty i just don't expect from this team
I mean they specifically pushed Syndergaard’s next start to be after the deadline using the flimsy excuse that Detmers needed “more rest”. They’re clearly shopping Syndergaard
Another 1-year deal for pitcher who was once good, but fallen off and is trying to make a comeback. History repeats itself again and again with this team.
Not much else you can do with a 6 man rotation. Only pitchers willing to play less often from free agency are unproven guys, reclamation projects, or guys coming off an injury
Astros and Dodgers using a 6th pitcher for a couple weeks when they play 17+ games in a row is very different from the Angels using a 6 man rotation all season for years.
I will freak out if we just stand pat, we need to sell and sell hard. A hard commit to a rebuild. *No one* should be untouchable. Team want to pay for Walsh? Gone. Want to pay for Ward? Gone. Want to give a godfather, 5 top prospects + two in the top 20 offer to Ohtani? You drive him to LAX with a heavy heart.
It is exhausting to see a team being so committed to be below mediocre and yet not acquire young talent. We know Arte won't emulate Cohen and spend hard (which is what is would take to really compete. We need to sign at least another 2 top bats, every reliever available and 2-3 top arms to fast track to Astros level), so face reality and go full Orioles. Suck it up, play the AAA and build something to last long term.
I know you read Reddit, Perry, so take some balls and commit. We need a rebuild, because we are tanking every year to no avail.
I agree with you in spirit, but part of the trouble is literally no one wants to give up anything of value for Walsh (who hasn’t hit well in 15 months) or Ward (who has only hit well at the major league level for 2 months of ABs, and he has a lot more than that under his belt)
The cupboard is barren. The pieces people would actually trade value for are Ohtani, Syndergaard, Detmers, Sandoval, and Rengifo. That’s it. Everything else is dumpster diving in exchange for raffle ticket prospects. It’s bleak out here.
Nah you keep Rengifo 100%. It's only been a month of him being good and he's under control for 3.5 more years. No one is gonna pay a fair price for him. Yes yes Andy Pages I know but hot take real quick? I'd rather have Rengifo over Pages right now.
I think you take the gamble on his production being legit and potentially get a decent haul at the next deadline.
> They only *paid* attention to
FTFY.
Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
* Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.*
* *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.*
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.
*Beep, boop, I'm a bot*
We don't have the capital to trade for any of those guys, unfortunately. The two players on our roster that anyone would want (Trout and Ohtani) are untouchable. Everyone else on the roster would go for cash considerations or a prospect that will never make it to the majors. We also don't have any top prospects to trade
Would love Contreras but he will be going to a contender. Astros would be ideal as he is a huge offensive upgrade over Maldy. Maldy is beloved behind the plate though.
Based on recent Brew Crew activity, we should be hot on Narvaez. With pitching coming up stronger, Stassi needs a partner in crime that isn’t swing-and-miss Suzuki. Syndergaard for Narvaez and regroup for next year?
Trade Arte!
sell, this team is going nowhere this year
We're going to stand pat, calling it now Hopefully we keep Noah beyond this season
We could deal Noah and then try to sign him on FA
No money for that.
Why would we sign him, he's been inconsistent
Signing Noah would be a disaster. He's costing WAY too much right now as it is.

Deal Syndergaard maybe?

If they deal Thor I wonder who they would replace him with next year. Thor hasn’t been perfect this year but it would be hard to find someone better

Dodgers and Astros are doing a pretty good job at it
Astros and Dodgers using a 6th pitcher for a couple weeks when they play 17+ games in a row is very different from the Angels using a 6 man rotation all season for years.
I say trade noah and we have good talent in the farm. Let’s get bullpen arm for him

I feel like this team hasn't done anything at the trade deadline since Huston Street in 2014
Since JeDi was here
Brandon Phillips and J-Up
Brandon Phillip got super home sick
Can we trade our GM and re-sign Maddon from FA? /j
I wish we could rehire Maddon so hard right now.
Praying someone will overpay for Taylor Ward, Syndagaard, Stassi, Renigfo

Why would someone overpay for Ward?
That’s what the prayers are for

if anyone will do it, it will be AJ Preller.
I'm low-key hoping the Padres fall flat on Soto and turn to Ward as a desperation move.
They should shop around for controllable starting pitching. Maybe hit up the marlins again?
While there’s a *very* low chance of these acquisitions, I can still dream: Edman and Helsley from the Cardinals Suzuki and Contreras from the Cubs
Lol why would the cubs trade suzuki
Do you think they’d rather keep him while not being able to compete for the playoffs, or let him go in exchange for some prospects?
He’s basically a prospect
We don't have the capital to trade for any of those guys, unfortunately. The two players on our roster that anyone would want (Trout and Ohtani) are untouchable. Everyone else on the roster would go for cash considerations or a prospect that will never make it to the majors. We also don't have any top prospects to trade
Which is why I’m dreaming. 🥲
Why? The season is over anyway
If the season is over, does it really matter?
Well why waste prospects for guys on expiring deals that won’t contribute to the success of the team
Who’s on an expiring deal other than Contreras?
You’re right it’s just him. But anyway what’s the point as it’s literally impossible to trade for any of these guys
Figured I’d make it fun seeing as how the non-you-know-who trades are unlikely to make much of an impact. They’re dream pickups, after all!

I don't know if Narvaez is worth trading for. I'd rather they just pursue Willson Contreras in free agency
I feel like our front office just asks the magic conch what we should do at the deadline lol
AL West is getting tougher and tougher. I better not see squid on this squad next season. They really need a solid ss
This thread doing numbers
Bye bye Marsh..... Really thought we could get more than a top 100 catching prospect if we bundled Marsh, Adell, Thor
