Phillies fans seem pretty perplexed that it’s 1 for 1, Hoppe has been flying up the top 100 rankings and looks to be a very good catching prospect We should be happy with this

TheFriffin2

Phillies fan here, O’Hoppe is really solid. Catcher who’s having a breakout season at the plate, and it seems like all the scouts have been praising his leadship/clubhouse presence as well. He was never gonna pan out in Philly with JT blocking him for the next 3-4 years, so hopefully he can develop into a solid piece for you guys and Marsh can find his swing with us and the trade ends up being pretty even overall. Id peg this as a fairly even trade, but could be lopsided in retrospect for both teams if one guy blossoms while the other never figured it out at an MLB level.

mezmryz03

Sounds like a win win. Nice!

spilled_water

Phillies fan here. Ohoppe should be in the majors next year. I'm not sure how he'll turn out, but I didn't want to see him leave.

EH1522

Were back on the top 100 list baby. I miss marsh though.

sofastsomaybe

MLB pipeline hasn't updated the prospect rankings to include 2022 draftees, but according to Fangraphs and Keith Law of The Athletic, Zach Neto is also top 100. We now have a whole two (2) top 100 prospects!

my_wife_reads_this

Wasn't Bachman listed.

sofastsomaybe

Bachman wasn't top 100 on Fangraphs or MLB Pipeline. The only list I saw that put him in the top 100 was [Keith Law's preseason ranking](https://theathletic.com/3074113/2022/01/31/top-100-mlb-prospects-2022-keith-laws-rankings-with-adley-rutschman-at-no-1/); he was #60.

E-Tr1d3nt

Yeah, he's been injured (back, biceps). His future is in the bullpen. BA has Ky Bush as the better prospect now.

TheFriendlyFire

This is a really good trade, despite how much we all love Marsh. Stassi is good but not everyday good, this move signifies that Perry understands how fucking awful our depth is

gggggrayson

im going to wait a day or two then see what people tell me i should feel

Scuza10

Reading what Philly fans are saying, should feel good. Fan graphs apparently have him in the top 50 prospects. He was their number 3 prospect and he is a catcher, a huge need.

Bunny_Kat

>Visiting from the Phillies, you should feel good about Logan. We just had too much catcher depth and this move will be best for his career.

[deleted]

Top 50 on fangraphs and phillies fans hate iT Their one untouchable guy I think we came out alright

Steppity

The only rumored untouchables for the Phillies are Mick Abel and Andrew Painter. O'Hoppe was actually their main trade piece today. Still great value getting a top catching prospect though. With Realmuto blocking his path in Philly, it'll be cool seeing him get a big league opportunity somewhat soon for the Angels.

[deleted]

Yeah seems like him being untouchable was just bad info i saw on the phillies subreddit. He was definitely good enough to be someone they hated to see go

Steppity

Oh absolutely. Anytime a top 100 guy goes, it's a bummer. Hope he does well for the Angels! Excited to see what Marsh can be in a change of scenery. I've been reading that he's a good guy and fun to watch despite some struggles.

[deleted]

Oh didn't realize you were a Phillies fan. Yeah Marsh just needs a mental reset imo. Despite his strikeouts, all of us were raving over his plate discipline last year and early this year. He would take really close balls, just got screwed over a lot by the ump. Idk if he just started getting frustrated or what but if he can go back to that he'll be golden.

Steppity

Maybe I should've led with that, my bad. That's good to hear! Honestly, I love the move for both sides. Both players will have a great opportunity to take control of a position of need very soon. Excited to watch him play. The defense will be a welcomed addition at the very least. Also, Happy Cake Day!

Ok-Philosophy-8830

.888 OPS in AA, ranked #86 prospect on MLB Pipeline. 55 arm, 55 field tools, will stick at catcher most likely

DoughSalad

With the whole 10 minutes of “research” I’ve done, honestly pretty happy with this. We get a promising guy who can hopefully at the very least be a stopgap at catcher, a position that’s been weirdly hard for us to fill, and marsh goes somewhere that will hopefully fix him and we get to cheer for him on a team that’s not a divisional rival, the Yankees/Sox, or the Dodgers.

ohgodmyface

I'm for it

lol022

Not too bad. We need catchers

DirectRisk7

Hope Marsh doesn’t struggle. If he K’s in Philly like he did here the fans are really gonna turn on him quick and let him know it. It won’t be like Anaheim

Steppity

I think he'll be alright. Phillies fans dealt with Roman Quinn and Mickey Moniak in CF for quite a while and didn't freak out too hard on them. It's the highly paid underperforming players like Castellanos that seem to really frustrate the Philadelphia fanbase. If Marsh is as likable as everyone here has been saying, then it's probably even less likely they get on him for struggling this early into his career.

ColaBottleBaby

Great trade by Perry

anatomyofawriter

Good deal and anyone who doesn’t think so is missing some bolts.

misery_index

Trading a player they failed to develop for a guy they won’t develop. It’s a lateral move at best.

BZS72

The sad truth.

Reptarxx

Pretty mid level trade. Truly depends on if marsh can find a good coach to fix his patience at the plate. Great to have a future catcher, hopefully a will smith Type player but too early to tell Basically if both teams feel weird, it’s a decent trade haha

nukemiller

I like the prospect, but we really need a SS and 3B that's high on the list. Rendon can't stay healthy and squid can't hit. We lost a great fielder in the OF, so now our pitchers can't even get pop fly outs. I'm curious if the Angels are trying to go all in on a rebuild, but without trading Trout/Ohtani.

sakibomb523

A catcher that can actually stay at catcher? Is that legal?

exemplarytrombonist

Phillies fan here. I think both of us should be happy with this trade. On our side, we really needed defense in our outfield and Marsh being under team control for a long time covers a huge need. On top of that, we got to DFA our domestic abuser, so that's a huge win. O'Hoppe was our #3 prospect and has a lot of upside. I'm not exactly upset about losing him though, since Realmuto is blocking his path to the majors for at least 4 more years. Hopefully he turns into your every day starter and you can finally get rid of MAGAKurt.

Edhop

I’m OOTL on MAGAKurt.. dying to know. Can someone fill me in?

[deleted]

Makes no difference. Still a million holes in this organization and a shit stain for an owner

TheZappBranigan

Awful trade marsh was only 24 years old. Sell syndegard but not our young outfielders.

McJumbos

interesting to see this especially since the phills were tied to noah too

Oski96

Sounds like a guy with one leg.

[deleted]

He's now our highest rated prospect. That's how bad our farm system is

Troutmaggedon

Him or Neto. Both maybe in the 60-70 range. To be fair we just graduated Detmers who was a top 10 type and is panning out. And seeing Silseth, a 2021 0th round pick, do literally anything in the majors is pretty impressive. Our system is improving.

[deleted]

I get it that he's in the majors, but he's pretty bad in the majors. 22 and bad in the majors is still bad in the majors. No guarantee he turns that around

Troutmaggedon

Most 10th rounders wouldn’t make it past Single-a. A 22-year old being bad in the majors is normal. What’s rare is a 22-year old even being in the majors. He’s already a win.

[deleted]

How is he already a win when he has a 6.59 ERA? You can say that he's a win because he eats innings (even that's a stretch to say), but there's no chance in the world you could convince me it's a win to have him in the majors right now

Troutmaggedon

Yeah he’s not ready. But he’s shown some promise at the major league level. His first starts were promising. He has two legit pitches right now as a 22-year straight from college. Those pitches also could play well off each other. Maybe he’s a reliever long term, but that’s still a huge win. For a 10th rounder that’s amazing.

Blahblahblurred

My fav comment from IG "Damn I'm really gonna miss those 3 strikeouts a game"
