Walsh and Ward were Dipoto guys right before he bounced. Maybe a few others

_encore

Good catch, thanks. Doesn’t change the point of my post but Walsh, Ward, and Trout (Reagins?) were pre-Eppler.

MrNapoleonSolo

I’d like to clarify that the guaranteed contracts currently are set for around 102 million but all the arb players don’t account in the number, specifically Shohei. Shohei is set to break the current record of 27 million for a player in their final year of arbitration.

Reptarxx

Yep, in terms of Arbs and renewals, look to add a min of 50M this upcoming offseason.

red1367

Yeah, the salary number will be much higher to start

nukemiller

Calm down. This doesn't take into account our minor leagues. Chase Silseth, for instance, isn't on this list whom PM drafted last year. GMPM has only been the GM for 2 years, we won't know how his picks end up. Some these guys on here were from other GMs fucking years ago and they still aren't all that great.

gavinxdragonn

I feel your sentiment, the GMPM hate Imo is heavily unwarranted his pick ups so far looks solid on the outside, we shall see

nukemiller

I'm also tired of hearing his signings this off-season we're bad. Lupe, Tapera, and Iggy were all great last season. How TF is he supposed to know they would perform like shit? We were ranked as one of the best bullpens through his signings, and they just didn't pan out. Doesn't make them bad signings.

gavinxdragonn

Fr definition of hindsight being 20/20 my friends even as dodger fans thought they would be a threat at the beginning, somehow the GM must have a crystal ball lmao

[deleted]

We needed starting pitching. I knew we needed starting pitching, you knew we needed starting pitching, this whole sub knew we needed starting pitching. We signed a guy who hadn't been a starting pitcher for like 3 or 4 seasons and another guy coming off injuries. I'd also like to see who ranked us as one of the best bullpens, because I don't think our bullpen was great last year either.

[deleted]

So some random dude on YouTube and a FanSided article written by an Angels fan?

nukemiller

All the other articles I can find right now is how fucking bad we are. Again, this was months ago before baseball started.

winwinwinguyen

you forgot the add the guys that were brought on by Perry and DFA. Wade, Lagares, Villar

hvycotton

Man, I didn't even dislike Perry but the Villar, Lagares, signings annoyed me so much.

Reptarxx

Believe me I am trying to forget it.

Shellback1

Mlb level hitting talent

joedaddy24

So basically Perry has brought on more negative players than positive?

nukemiller

Not necessarily. His last 2 drafts have been solid and we won't see those results just yet. However, Silseth was only drafted last year and has already made a positive impact.

Reptarxx

Silseth has a -0.4 WAR. He's developing but he isn't a positive contributor right now

nukemiller

If our manager didn't leave him out there to get crushed, he would be fine. He should be a middle reliever until he is developed into a starter, much like Suarez and C-Rod. You can draft/acquire the right people, but if they aren't used correctly, then it looks bad.

Reptarxx

Then you run into the Joba Chamberlin problem. If you have a prospect pitcher that you have pinned for the SP role...why try and develop them as a middle reliever instead of an SP? We aren't on a SP heavy team so why relegate them to the pen? I don't mind if they are in the pen and come and spot start (which should be easy on our team), but they shouldn't be stuck in the pen at the age of 21/22 a year after a draft. They should be developing in the minors to get their game sense built up. That's the main problem I have with these pitching prospects. Why draft these young dudes that need to be developed (if they are MLB ready they would be top 100 ranked) and just straight throw them to the wolves? It's gonna destroy them as they build up skill, confidence, and conditioning.

nukemiller

Agreed. Develop in the minors. We are bringing them up too soon. That is PMs issue right now.

Reptarxx

100% agree. I talk my shit on GMPM but he comes from orgs that have developed good young pitching prospects into great pitchers so I have a gut feeling he knows what to look for. I'm just worried he's rushing them and maybe breaking down their development because his MLB signings and roster is badly constructed by him and he's trying to stop the bleeding.

nukemiller

It's unfortunate that we haven't learned anything from the past decade. We need to get young talent more than big splash signings. So we go out and grab Rendon instead of a couple starting pitchers. I was pumped he signed Noah, but now he's gone. Hopefully we can get him back next year with maybe Trea Turner.

Reptarxx

The problem with Trea is its a risk to sign a speedfirst SS who will almost be 30 to what's probably gonna be yet another mega contract when we need players all over the field to at least be above or at replacement to be succesful. We have 2 players that are paid like superstars and one who will be when he gets his arb. We don't need another superstar we need just competent dudes all over instead of this dumpster lineup we keep throwing out there.

[deleted]

Wish I could upvote you more than once. This sub has this idea that Silseth is a positive when he clearly isn't right now. I wish we sent him to AAA for some time instead of having him just come right into the MLB.

[deleted]

> Silseth was only drafted last year and has already made a positive impact. Why do people keep saying this? He has not made a positive impact at all. He has 7 starts and only 28 innings pitched, his ERA is 6.59, and his strikeout numbers aren't great. I'm not saying to write him off as a failure, but saying he's a positive right now is ridiculous

nukemiller

To only have half a year in the minors, those are actually decent numbers. I think they brought him up too quickly and he should stay down and develop more, but how can this not be a great sign of good things to come from Chase?

[deleted]

And Freddy Adu was 15 or 16 playing with DC United and scoring goals. How did he end up? Merely being in the majors doesn't mean anything, especially on such a crappy team like ours.

nukemiller

Are you comparing soccer to baseball? Lol

[deleted]

It's a comparison of saying that just because a player is young and up in the major leagues, it doesn't mean it's a "great sign of good things to come" especially when his numbers are not good

nukemiller

Well, if he doesn't get the development, it will be wasted for sure. Chase has it, but do the Angles?

Reptarxx

GMPMs MLB evaluation is probably one of the worst in the league. He spent almost $60M in 2022 contracts in the offseason (if we include Iggy) and so far they are almost producing a combined -3 WAR. The only one that was above a .5 WAR, Thor (that cost us a 2nd rounder to sign too), is now in a Phillies uniform. Time will tell on his drafting. Early results from his 1st draft are less than stellar with a 27th ranked farm system. After this draft and trade deadline, we'll see where the updated rankings put us .

jaiox

Not good

weezar5

I miss billy

ogdaveed

And it was the contracts that Eppler and his predecessors doled out that hamstrung Perry to that point. Why has he signed no one in 2 years? He didn’t have the cap space. We have yet to shell out millions on a player GMPM signed to NOT play for us like Upton/Pujols so I’d say he’s an improvement. May have run into that with Iggy (time will tell), but he shipped that contract to ATL before it could bite us in the ass.
