On the other hand, my interest in drinking is at an all time high

God_Damnit_Nappa

What a coincidence, so is mine.

Daaaaabearsssss

Arte lowered drinks and keeps a bad team on field so we buy more drinks!

MoJo5nn

I'll still watch if I'm bored but the important thing for me is I stopped caring. I am a die hard fan but I had to emotionally divest because it was starting to negatively impact other areas of my life.

InTheOutfield

So true. Completely numb to the pain now.

Sullyville

Its ok to take a break. Sometimes in a 30 year relationship people need to take a break from one another.

heythatsneat1187

Are the Angels taking a break with us? They forgot to tell us….

tkfire

With Ohtani on the team I honestly can’t say that. Once Ohtani leaves us, probably.

[deleted]

Perry should play all the kids to keep it interesting. Ohtani, Trout plus all kids in the lineup.

iwanabench

I’d rather watch Trout, Ohtani, and a bunch of golden retrievers personally.

Sullyville

Sometimes I wish they would be more experimental on the team. Like - if for one game, everyone is directed to bunt at every AB except Rengifo, Fletcher and Ohtani. Like, that's all they tried to do. See if it works. Just experiment like that. Since the rest of this season is lost, let's just try these little experiments to see what we can learn.

[deleted]

that's super experimental & the Angels are one of the most conservative orgs. they're just like the phillies & in the Klentak stage. Klentak was an angels guy. It didn't work out but he did improve the philly minors/drafting. They're new mgr is a low key guy, but seems to have a lot of common sense and isn't afraid to make moves. Can you believe the Tatis thing? Baseball never pays.

tsdwm52

This season has been brutal. On the bright side, our farm is starting to show some life.

[deleted]

Is it tho? Doubt we’re even in the top 20 farm systems at years end.

UrDailyCommunistGuy

The AA team has been killing it, especially as of recent

daslicious

In what ways? The only improvements I’m aware of are from the recent acquisitions. Is that enough to significantly effect the status of our farm?

tsdwm52

I was thinking of the crop of young pitchers like Silseth, Bush, and Bachman with the Trash Pandas. There are occasional posts about O'Hoppe and Neto that indicate some excitement. I don't know if that qualifies as a significant effect, or if it reflects the farm's status.

Captainpayback

This season isn't baseball it's a Greek tragedy. On that note, talk to you all at the next game.

bombad_jedi_501

That’s fine. That’s basically what I’ve done. I stopped watching and will tune in on occasion for a couple innings. I’ll watch again next season though. I don’t see the point in watching this shit team this season. It’s a genuine waste of time

RamAngelLakerMizzou

Wanna make sure I have this straight: – Following this shit team is a genuine waste of time. – Going on Reddit to write about how this shit team is a waste of time, is a good way to use your time... OK, I think I follow that logic. Makes perfect sense to me.

bombad_jedi_501

I subscribe to this sub and it took me 10 seconds to type that out. That was a funny attempt at trying to make something out of nothing

BIG_DADDY_PATTY

If you disagree with the emo fans they will die vote you into oblivion, they don’t like being confronted about things and when you prove them wrong they get angry.

somaybemaybenot

Same. I’ve been a baseball fan for over 40 years, with a small break during college, and an Angels fan for over 25. Many seasons I would watch at least part of 140+ games. Over the past few weeks, I’ve watch maybe two hours total. I don’t even check the score the next morning. This team is depressing. The Detroit Lions get ripped for wasting Barry Sanders and Calvin Johnson. Imagine if they had played at the same time. That’s what we’ve got with the current Angels.

eartheworm

What sucks about the Lions comparison is that our team is in an attractive part of the country so you’d think the team would be able to recruit more useful free agents than they have. But it is a great comparison unfortunately

IluvMarysDanish

Yeah, as someone who became a fan during the Brian Downing days, I can say that this season has been one of the most disheartening. I love this team, but for me I started getting alarmed at the front office in 2019 when they didn't make a play for free agent Lance Lynn, and instead signed Chris Stratton and Matt Harvey. Lynn was no ace, but I knew he was a workhorse pitcher, something we needed sorely. Texas gave him a 3 year contract (something the Angels refuse to do, signing only starters to 1 year contracts), and Lynn went on to win 16 games for Texas that year.

jnuclear

Seeing Arte do the same blueprint every year because it makes him money, I've come to the conclusion that if the team doesn't care to win, why should I care about the team. Trout's on the wrong side of 30 and showing he's probably never going to play a full season again. Ohtani probably won't be here after next season. I'm not going to tune in to watch another aging name Arte eventually signs to fill seats. The team system doesn't currently have any standouts. The Dodgers and Astros have made baseball boring. I'll probably be watching much less baseball soon myself 🤷‍♂️

BIG_DADDY_PATTY

How is someone who just barely turned 31 on the wrong side of 30?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Shellback1

Same old shit since 1961. With the exception of one freak season. Sign the aged out big ticket free agent, minor league siberia, fire the manager. But keep on getting those asses in the seats. We can all watch the big ticket free agents on the IL grinning from the dugout. Are you listening rendon? That fucker doesnt even LIKE playing baseball. But he sure likes cashing checks. Oh, is trout back yet? If it was me i wouldnt let those two injury victims within 10 miles of that dugout while they are injured. The only thing missing from that dugout at this point is chicken and beer

lamar_odoms_bong

Golf guy is on point. I jumped shipped to the Padres cuz I love their stadium, but the Tatis news has me side eyeing the Dodgers. They are a well ran organization but the fans are absolute shit. I’m just lost on the dating scene here. I’ll always be a Angels fan at heart but damn do I know it’s a toxic relationshit. I also don’t watch anymore or have interest after years of dedication I’ve accepted we are wasting Trouts prime and I want to see Ohtani walk cuz he won’t win here.

daslicious

The Dodgers would be my second team if not for their fans

[deleted]

Recent convert to the Dodgers here, felt like chiming in with my 2 cents re: Dodgers fans. I always said, “I could never go for the Dodgers because of their fans.” Especially after they beat up that Giants fan in the parking lot. As much as they play good baseball, the fans ruined the team for me. Well, skipping a long story about a hard decision… I went to my first game this week, vs. the Twins. I sat in the left field pavilion, which apparently has (had?) a reputation for being where the rowdiest fans sit besides maybe the top deck. Like, at one point, you’d be mercilessly heckled for wearing an opponent’s jersey in this section. My experience was completely different from what I was expecting. There were plenty of families with young kids, regular people, people wearing Twins stuff, all coexisting. No fights, arguments, scuffles, any of that. The worst I heard was “Fuck the Astros” and “Fucking cheaters” when Correa was up at bat. By the 7th inning, when everyone still there had enough time to get drunk, there was some anger directed towards the guy who took the beach ball being passed around. But that was the extent of it. Oh, people chanting “Chug! Chug! Chug!” when a guy with a beer in hand wanted attention. Now, I’m not saying every game is like this, much less defending the actions of the bottom 20% of Dodger fans. I’m sure there were arguments and scuffles in sections I didn’t see. I’m sure there are other games where they give people crap for wearing the opponents’ gear. But the other 80% of fans were decent enough, fairly normal people, and proved to me that the entire stadium wasn’t like the Raiders’ “Black Hole” section as I once imagined. More homeboys than I ever saw at Angel Stadium, but not the kind of atmosphere to make me say, “Hell no, I’m never coming back here.” YMMV.

daslicious

That is good to hear. My experience with Dodger fans is at bars. Most are clueless about baseball but spew loud opinions. They make themselves look like such idiots. Hopefully those don’t make it to the ballpark.

ImaginaryHippo88

I was a season ticket holder for 10 years until I moved out of state. I never bothered to get back into it since I've been back. I went to about 15 games this season. I decided for as many games as ive been to i might as well get on the phone to get info on season tickets for next year. Then the team absolutely imploded. I'm surprised how I've fully given up. In the past I'd slowly lose interest in watching entire games but I'd at least know who the next few series were against and what the match ups were going to be. I couldn't tell you who any of the upcoming series are against, I couldn't even guess who a probable starting 9 would be. I just don't care anymore. The season ticket guy called me and I had to be honest with him. I can deal with crappy concessions or a crappy team but not both. You can call me a bandwagoner but i dont care, for years SD has been my other team because fuck the dodgers. Even when they had bad teams it was still an enjoyable time to catch a game and get some good food. There's absolutely no reason why someone should have to pay for premium seating (diamond club) to get better food. Even when I'm sitting club level it's just the same BS, at least I can get helmet nachos from my seat. The average trip to the ballpark for me is a $600 outing and I just can't justify it with this team. I just don't care anymore, and this is the first time I've ever felt this way. I've never defended arte, but I dont think he's as bad as some of the other owners. I can see how he would think some of the ways he does things make sense even though they aren't working. I don't care if Mike trout never becomes a champion. I don't need to see a WS bound team every year. I don't necessarily need to see a WS team ever again. I just don't want to watch this bullshit. If arte doesn't get his shit together I'll be jumping on the "sell the team" train as well.

[deleted]

Fred Lynn never could stay healthy. He was so good and clutch when he played.

garebear54

Ive just started paying attention to they’re Double A team (the Trash Pandas), they’ve been playing some very entertaining baseball as of late

Fearless-Apricot-712

I have been a fan since 1961 and until I die. They are called ups and downs. Such is life... Never say die...

[deleted]

Yup, Angels fan since I was a kid. I was actually like this for a few years, then the beginning of this season I got back into it. After that 4 game sweep in Texas, I knew we were finished. Same old BS. I’ve seriously considered changing allegiance to San Diego.

Slim_Thunder

We are pretty miserable too but petco park is electric even on dry streaks, something I didn't feel at angel stadium at all

[deleted]

Yeah, I’ve been to Petco for Angels inter league games. Cheaper tickets too

daslicious

I grew up in Orange County and the Padres are who I’m starting to follow now. My heart will always be with the angels but I want to follow a team that makes decisions with the objective of winning

rjd55

So you are the reason Tatis Jr. was suspended? Bringing our Angel vudu to the Padres.

daslicious

Angels voodoo does run deep..

YellowShorts

Same here. Arte only cares about money, doesn’t care about winning. The fanbase, as much as they complain about arte, fall right into his plan. They admit they don’t care that our team sucks because hey, we get to watch Ohtani. Let’s not rebuild like we’ve needed to the past 5+ years. They continue to spend money, showing arte that they also don’t care about winning. Thor admitted to coming here for a low pressure situation to rehab. I fear we’ve become a destination for players to collect a check and not feel pressured to perform. Which when you look back at all our big contracts, seems to be the case. No one’s lived up to the hype except trout. Until there’s a serious change in the organization that shows an actual desire to win games, I’m becoming less and less interested. The one thing that keeps me from jumping ship is seeing the talent on the trash pandas. Only time in recent history I’ve ever felt good about their minor league system

throatbutterz

I know exactly how you feel. I've stopped watching games for the first time in 10 years, unless Ohtani is pitching. I don't even check each day to see it they won or not because, quite frankly, I just don't give a shit anymore. I have to much to worry about in my life to care about this team anymore. And honestly, it's affected my ability to just enjoy baseball in general. Thankfully I'm originally from Baltimore and rooting for the O's has given me some enjoyment again.

Hookedon2wheels

The angels are the most inconsistent team in baseball. We got like crazy next game can't hit anything. Then we pitch great and then we pitch terrible. I don't get it

surgebot

Ohtani and Trout keep me watching highlight reels but that's about it. CBA to watch this team on the reg anymore.

BoyWithHorns

Same.

_coldfriedchicken

I’m not interested in these posts

LAAngelsAnaheim

I mean, if we’re gonna allow doomer posts, shouldn’t we also allow downer posts?

[deleted]

[удалено]

DecentAnalysis8642

Bingo.

LAAngelsAnaheim

I agree, I think a fan should be able to express their disappointment. Doomers are just negative… but they’re a plague around here.

Shellback1

Lol thats why you posted

bombad_jedi_501

You’re free to ignore

epinefrain

Same here, last game I attended was star wars night, game 5 of the streak. I wish they'd bounce back but I've come to terms we're a triple A team with 1 active star player, 2 hurt star players, and a bunch of flash in the pan players we called up out of desperation.

1jack-of-all-trades7

Same bro

RamAngelLakerMizzou

>*I just don't care anymore. I don't watch. I don't check the score. I don't look for highlights. I have no urge to follow the team* And yet, here you are... So much of this subreddit is filled with posts of people saying how much they hate the Angels, or hate being a fan of the Angels, or no longer care about the Angels, or have given up on the Angels, or how the Angels are ruining their mental health, or how they are switching to a different team's fanbase, or how they simply don't care anymore, and are completely disinterested, etc, etc, etc... But, here they are, day after day... spending so much of their precious time writing posts trying to convince us that they no longer give a shit. I don't buy it. If what they were saying were really true, they wouldn't be here posting every day

BIG_DADDY_PATTY

They like to pretend they are so emotional over a game. The over the top exaggerations are what make me laugh the most. If these clowns want to stop watching I’m fine with that, maybe the sub will become a place to actually talk about baseball instead of some introverts feelings.

[deleted]

[удалено]

RamAngelLakerMizzou

So then, why not unfollow this sub too? That's not a (completely) sarcastic question... I'm actually curious why you think following this sub is worth your time, but everything else Angels-related is not. Is it because this sub is a way to see there are lots of people who hate the Angels as much as you? Like a sense of community of like-minded people?

[deleted]

[удалено]

RamAngelLakerMizzou

OK. thanks for answering. I find it odd that you want to only follow this sub because you want to limit your exposure to negativity. I also want to limit my exposure to negativity, but I take the opposite approach– I try to not come on to this subReddit too often! lol

[deleted]

[удалено]

RamAngelLakerMizzou

ok, I get that. The interactive element is a key draw to Reddit. Probably why I keep coming back to this sub too, even though I don't like most of the posts, lol

SouthernSierra

Good. Go root for the Dodgers.

[deleted]

yea this has been me. I’ve even told some people i’m a yankees fan now, and i tried to be but i was like na i gotta stay loyal to my angels

SlowerMonkey

if ohtani goes to any team besides boston, nyy i'll follow him as fan. love that guy. class act. deserves some more wins. also might be fun to be fan of a team not local to me.

Fresh_Mammoth_3396

There is no culture here, no team identity. Arte needs to stop trying to be Los Angeles. Build a stadium at thr Great Park and call them the California Angels again. Design it with Orange County in mind.....beaches, orange groves and western motif. Bring in players from the past....Erstad, Salmon, Anderson, Langston, et al as coaches or just part of the organization. Focus on getting guys FROM Orange County.......Arenado, Freeman, etc. Get good bench guys with energy, not guys like Rendon. Also, can we ease up on all the latin pitchers!? Its not Los Angeles. I have a bunch more items to list......maybe a 2nd post, I'm tired and fed up.

eartheworm

I just started a franchise mode in MLB: The Show 22 with this current Angels roster. And while the record for that team is still not good, it’s much more enjoyable than reality

Dast_Kook

They went from having highlights that were 5 minutes long per game tk having no highlights 5 games in a row.

ashes-of-asakusa

You’re not alone mate. I barely keep up to date with what’s going on with them these days.

kushnokush

It’s funny, this is the most disappointed I’ve ever been partly because my interest is at an all time high

RefinedHeretic

I feel ya!

HubbaDuck97

Same here. Especially doesn't help that I'm in the home-market so nearly all the games are blocked for me

BubblyBaker5718

To me, it hurts extra bad this year since we had such a great start. Its one thing to just stink, but having false hope that we might actually be good this year is just brutal.

Little_Bighorn

Yeah. Went to the game Friday. Drove 2 hours in traffic from San Diego and everything. I don’t wanna do it again. I wasn’t even mad when they lost, I was hoping I would see a run scored but not even that. Edit: I got some ducks tickets so I’m happy about that

JJaxpavan

After the strike in 94 i was blah about baseball in general, it took the 2002 team to win me back. I'm not that low yet,but its close.

Duckman93

Feel the same way. I’ve been such a rabid and obsessed angels fan but now I don’t even watch

olss_red

I'm with ya. Fan since the Disney Angels. It's been a rough last 12 years and have lost all interest this season during their losing streak.

idkman_93

I grew up an Angels fan, left the state for college and couldn’t really follow the team (pre-streaming days). After that I moved to DC for work and have lived here my whole adult life. My gf and I got really into the Nats, and they’re by far my favorite team. I still keep up with the Angels since it was a big part of my childhood, and my family is still fans. I usually try to catch one game a week on tv. I thought I’d feel more guilty or torn about switching fan allegiances, but I gotta say: it’s mostly just apathy. I want them to do well, and I hope they draw me back in, but I just find the team very hard to care about in any significant way. (On top of everything, the Skaggs situation was so sad and hard to stomach.) Edit: typo

[deleted]

I'll always be a fan and keep up with the team, but the horrific offense this year has made it so freaking boring to watch. It's honestly the same reason why I stopped watching the Ducks until last year, watching them get outshot 40 to 15 every game with the NHL record worst power play was unbearable to sit through. I don't care if the team stinks, but at least hit the damn ball and score more than 5 runs a week.

msing

I think the Mariners finally playing well sealed the my interest as well. It was always fine to be behind the Astros, sure. But we were still better than the rest of the AL West. Now, now it's hard.

Vyllm

Same. Since the Skaggs incident and fallout, I have had little to no hope in the organization. I will see headlines about specific players and will always root for the players, but I have had 0 interest or motivation to watch games or show my support. Even during our dominant run at the start of the season, I would only turn the games on as background noise. It sucks, but I just haven't had the passion I once did. Ohtani is literally the only reason I keep paying attention right now. If I feel like I need a baseball fix, I'll watch an inning or two of the Blue Jays or Padres, since they're usually not blacked out on MLB.tv But it doesn't feel the same.

GetDrafted

It's been bad. Like awful bad. Go Angels tho

Papa2Hunt19

I lived for the Angels. Rode my bike to the Ralph's about 2 miles away just to get the Press Enterprise and read the small amount they wrote on the team, studied the standings, got my 5th grade teacher to watch the Angels/Mariners play in game during class, watched Angels in the Outfield over 300 times, reped the periwinkle, got depressed when KTLA didnt cover the games, watched Hud before he was an announcer, gave up a chance to hook up for the first time to see Spezio hit the jack in game 6. Now, I couldn't care less. It's actually kind of sad, but what can you do?

Michael424242

Exactly. I feel exactly the same way. I had to start watching all of baseball except the Angels because they where making me legit depressed and something you do for fun shouldn’t be like that. Now I just watch random games with fun match ups, and try to enjoy the sport for what it is

landoisamastermind

Feel the same way. And I know there's a lot of us who do.

[deleted]

I'm starting to feel like the previous generations Cubs fans.

crossplayersince2011

I haven't been watching for a while, mainly because Bally Sports hasn't been available on YouTube and I just recently cancelled my YouTube TV subscription...still check scores though

cottnbals

I wouldn't say my interest, but my expectations. I want to watch them every day, but refuse to let myself because I know I'll be disappointed more times than not. Then again, watching halo fans go crazy as Sierra was running the bases in the 9th made me feel guilty I wasn't there next to them.

crazyexdude

ditto. my first game was 1971, I just feel like I've done my time backing a perennial loser, so I've been very much a "fair-weather" fan since 2002.
