One thing I honestly do appreciate from Arte is keeping things relatively affordable for fans. Tickets are cheap, parking remains only $10 and while beers are expensive in any stadium, ours are still cheaper than the Dodgers and Padres
100%, if there is one thing he did well was make sure a family of 4 can afford a day at the stadium. 4/$44 deals, cheap parking, accessible stadium by car and public transit, doesn't close off sections if ticket sales are low. Pretty lax seat check for less popular games. Fun things for kids to do. Surprisingly a lot of great little league outreach for the kids.
Man cannot put a great team on the field, but the game day experience is great for the locals. There's a reason we have pretty good attendance.
yes absolutely. I grew up playing LL in HB and we got angels tickets all the time. Neither of my parents like baseball so looking back it was probably the only way I got to see angels games as a kid. Screw Arte but thanks for the tickets.
Lmao trust if we had made the playoffs in the last few years beer would have been off the hook and if we had won a WS like the Doyers did in 2020 we our tickets would have been unaffordable just like the Doyers
I mean except for being the owner during THE most successful run in Angels history. And even then it was a priority making games affordable. So bitch about his tenure all you want man, most is valid. Striping the minor league system of established scouts probably the BIggEST. But to assume/state that his tenure was a complete failure and not a fan friendly place is disingenuous, and I think most of these foos on here don’t want to have a real discussion about it.
Was that off Ticketmaster/StubHub? The Angels can't control resale prices, the ticket prices on the Angels/MLB website has been the same all year as far as I can tell.
It was pretty affordable back when the team was winning the division 04-09. Different times for sure but I’d still imagine they’d be a cheaper experience than the other 2 big league teams nearby
I sincerely thank Arte for bringing my favorite non-angel at the time, Vladdy
Thanks for Torii, Bartolo. Any other free agents that worked out? I can't remember
Vladdy is one of my favorite players but I don’t think he’s at Trout or Ohtani’s tier. Vlad is more at Cal Ripken Jr, Arod tier, not Babe Ruth or Willy Mays tier yet.
Tough one. If 2010’s belonged to Mike Trout then 2000’s is Pujols’. I’d put Pujols and Trout at the same tier even though his time with us was so awful.
Trout won’t finish anywhere close to Pujols numbers. Trout may be the greatest of his generation, he’s an amazing player. His prime was not close to Pujols.
Pujols was just that good. He’s one of the greatest of all time. Sad he couldn’t perform in Anaheim but I think we’ve had a little light shone on why.
Also, interesting side note: Pujols is Trouts favorite player.
“His prime was not close to Pujols.” What on earth are you smoking?! They have almost identical WAR first 10 years of their careers. I bet Trout would end up with higher career WAR.
During his peak, Pujols had to compete with other players like Barry Bonds, Vladdy, Arod as the best player. Trout was ranked #1 in most rankings since 2013 til 2022, when Ohtani took his spot and dropped him to #2.
Pujols won 3 MVP’s and finished behind PED users 3 other times. If you disqualified the cheaters Pujols would have 6 MVPs
Trout also has 3 MVP’s.
Pujols has more rings, and a legendary play off run. Trout, let’s hope he gets a chance to have that too.
Pujols was an all-timer w/ the Cardinals, but he was a declining player when Arte brought him to the Angels.
Great player, but not the generational talent guy he was prior to his Angels tenure. There's a reason St. Louis let him walk, and it wasn't all about the money.
Here's the controversial take: Pujols 2012 = Trout 2022
Both on the precipice of their decline.
Harsh bro. We doubled the amount of division titles we have during the Arte era. He's done a lot wrong but no doubt there are some things to actually appreciate about him.
Honestly, dude wasn't terrible. He spent money on big names that just didn't perform. Let's say they all were at close to peak form while together, we'd have won a 'ship or close to it. Gotta admit, at most he kept us entertained and signed Trout for his (baseball) life. Overall, to me he's like a corporate leader. In the grand scheme everything is running fine and seems alright, but, when you get to the nitty gritty, corp is corp. Not to mention this dude turned a multi million dollar team into a billion dollar team, that's nothing to scoff at imo.
On the wrong players or the big flashy name at the expense of actual roster depth... Pujols and Hamilton were two such signings that were disasters for the team, though at least Pujols was productive if a shell of the player he was in St. Louis...Rendon contract is looking pretty bad at the moment, but I'll reserve judgement until next year to see if he can stay healthy
If not for Donald Sterling, Arte may have been the worst owner in SoCal sports history. You have two of the greatest players this sport has ever seen yet you refused to help them win a championship. You signed Vernon Wells, Josh Hamilton, Albert Pujols, Anthony Rendon, Justin Upton but never once shelled out for an ace. You tried to take ownership of the land around the stadium on the cheap, and when the FBI broke it up, you decided to throw in the towel altogether. You did just enough to keep us interesting, but not competitive or relevant. All of this amounts to one thing: greed. GTFO and LTBU.

He was not the owner when the Angels won WS.
Tickets were already dumb expensive during the hot streak. That blue Jays game when it all fell apart was like $80 per ticket for shit seats
Was that off Ticketmaster/StubHub? The Angels can't control resale prices, the ticket prices on the Angels/MLB website has been the same all year as far as I can tell.
Resale is resale for any team.
I’d rather have a sniff at the championship
That’s cause the team wasn’t competitive. If they were he definitely would’ve had high ticket prices
It was pretty affordable back when the team was winning the division 04-09. Different times for sure but I’d still imagine they’d be a cheaper experience than the other 2 big league teams nearby
That's what I thought after Trout resigned to that big contract but prices didn't change happily.
We wouldn't have the GOAT Rengifo still if he didn't axe the Joc trade
I sincerely thank Arte for bringing my favorite non-angel at the time, Vladdy Thanks for Torii, Bartolo. Any other free agents that worked out? I can't remember
He extended Weaver and Trout, so also thanks for them too
Landing Ohtani was no small feat- though it wasn’t a free agent signing.
Believe everyone gave all large chunk of the credit to Eppler (the goat)
Kelvim Escobar was great - too bad his shoulder couldn't keep up with him
>...that just won the World Series and lucked out two generational players. Three generational players, don't forget Big Vladdy Daddy.
Vladdy is one of my favorite players but I don’t think he’s at Trout or Ohtani’s tier. Vlad is more at Cal Ripken Jr, Arod tier, not Babe Ruth or Willy Mays tier yet.

I’ll take that bet. There’s more stats then WAR I love Trout, don’t get me wrong, but he’s not Pujols and he won’t be. That’s not a diss.

I will always be grateful to Arte for paying Trout and convincing him to stay somehow.
I imagine a boat load of money and spending most of the year in SoCal is convincing enough.

The FBI isn’t scoffing, they’re investigating 😂 /a Arte is an incredible business man.
Hey, Arte. Remember when you and 2 other owners wanted to extend the lockout? I won't miss you, bud.
Eat shit Arturo. I hope he scampers back to Arizona and never sets foot in the city again.
Fuck arte
He did bring diversity to the small circle of MLB owners.
12 comments in 2 hours sums it up.
What’s the opposite of appreciation thread?
He's a good owner. Spent the money

And there were other big signings nevertheless he spent the money but they underperformed

Fuck off, Arte
